05.31.17 | Raditude best Weezer. Then Hurley. Also, my shit taste aside, White and EWBAITE are great albums. I think most people can say that I mean just look at the averages for them on here |

05.31.17 | Yeah it happens to most bands in the end, which sucks, but that's life. It's why I can respect a band like Dillinger Escape Plan who are going out on top. And, as my favourite band, I hope Converge do the same. Got a bit of a nasty feeling about their next one coming out later this year... |
Brandon
05.31.17 | Linkin Park needs to be on this list. |
Demon of the Fall
05.31.17 | 'Alternative list title 'Bands that started off bad and only got worse over time'. Thank you.' Agreed.
I'd say Muse with The Resistance (although the decline arguably started with Black Holes, just not quite as severe)... & Biffy Clyro from Puzzle onwards. |
RaylanCrowder
05.31.17 | Agree on Coldplay, strong disagree on Green Day, Linkin Park and Maroon 5. Never thought Maroon 5 were very good, ATS is my favourite LP album and I thought American Idiot was pretty good too. Even if you agree with me that the trilogy albums is their worst work, American Idiot was a step up from Warning, IMO |
Davil667
05.31.17 | It would indeed be way more challenging to create a list on bands that didn't get worse over time or got even better... |
NorwichScene
05.31.17 | Linkin Park has to be on here, it's not debatable.
I was going to say Biffy Clyro, but liked a few songs off their latest mainstream effort |
RaylanCrowder
05.31.17 | "Linkin Park has to be on here, it's not debatable."
I'd say it is debatable, maybe not in terms of sales, but in terms of personal preference. One More Light, Minutes to Midnight and Meteora are my least favourite LP albums while I much prefer ATS, HT and The Hunting Party |

05.31.17 | god there are so many to choose from but off the top of my head here are some you didn't include
bloc party (hymns is horrendous)
incubus (8 is horrendous)
alkaline trio (while they haven't put out an album that id call bad, they have gotten gradually worse over time evident by the last two being shaky aside from some standout tracks)
rise against (tim can't sing at all anymore)
death cab for cutie (everything that i've heard post narrow stairs is mediocre at best)
fall out boy (debatable whether they were good to begin with it they've undoubtably gotten much much worse the more they progressed)
the cure (bloodflowers is cool but anything else post wish really isn't worth listening to) |
DigitalSchism
05.31.17 | I disagree with Manson being here. The Pale Emperor was a pretty strong comeback album if you ask me. |
Deathconscious
05.31.17 | Almost all of these were shitty to begin with. Also, almost all bands get worse the longer they go, so. List is isnt really saying anything. |

wham49
05.31.17 | almost every band gets worse over time, they lose the hunger or make too much money, or become rock stars
there are a few that get better which can be debated I guess, but some I think are, Radiohead, Neil Young, RHCP, Beatles |

05.31.17 | Aiwaz - Tool, Neurosis and ISIS all got better over their early career...then slowly got slightly worse. Usual drill for most bands. No one thinks their most recent albums are their best. |
JWT155
05.31.17 | When you've made a career out of being angsty and spitting venom with heavy guitar licks and harsh vocals, it's hard to continue that trend as an older band. Older you get you more or less become content/make amends with the things that anger you, financial success makes it tough to write about being pissed off, and physically it's hard for a musician/vocalist to reach the limits they could have reached earlier. Also, people just in general mellow out with age, and only a select few bands can mellow out and still create something on par with their earlier career, especially in the Metal/Rock scene where careers are made pushing the envelope and taking chances. |
Demon of the Fall
05.31.17 | Suggestions for bands that got better then? Much harder. Now, obviously every single release doesn't need to show an increase in quality, just generally. And where it seems to be the most common consensus. Tough.
Death - these guys stick out as an obvious one
The Chariot - last two releases before they split were a definite upgrade |
JWT155
05.31.17 | Norma Jean has gotten better as well, their first few records had some great singles, then they went through an awkward phase of experimenting but losing focus, their past two records have been their best hands down. |

Sowing
05.31.17 | I think most bands have a shelf life before losing whatever spark made them interesting at first. |
DoofusWainwright
05.31.17 | I prefer the more recent albums by Destroyer if you count them as a traditional band
As a rule bands that periodically reinvent themselves seem to have a better chance of avoiding late career lull - 'FLOTUS' by Lambchop is one of my favourites by the band, the first two albums are immense but then there are two or three mid period albums equally good too. |
FearThyEvil
05.31.17 | Most bands do tend to lose themselves over time but at the same time, I can say their are also plenty that get better or stay consistent throughout too. |
DoofusWainwright
05.31.17 | My Lambchop album ratings go:
5 - 5 - 3.5 - 4.5 - 4.5 - 5 - 3.5 - 4.5 - 4.5 - 4.5 - 5
I see them as a good example of it not all having to go downhill after album 3, 4 or 5 |

05.31.17 | @JWT I'd say The National are pretty debatable in that regard, I can understand any ranking of their albums from Sad Songs onward |
onionbubs
05.31.17 | my personal national suggests otherwise but i guess i could see that |
JWT155
05.31.17 | The National < Sad Songs < Alligator =< Boxer
I think it's an easy conclusion, even if you prefer Alligator I think it's undeniable they were a better more fine tuned band with Boxer. I agree, Alligator onwards is a toss up for which being a favorite at any given moment, but from Alligator to Boxer I think it's indisputable they were a better band. |

06.03.17 | Mars Volta, Pearl Jam, Live, and Mudvayne come to mind.
Also gotta disagree with Isis being on this list. Wavering Radiant, whilst no Panopticon or Oceanic was a solid addition to an impressive catalogue. The gradient of their decline is nowhere near as bad as a band like In Flames or Muse.

08.02.17 | 5 and 6 so hard, so hard.
Hot Fuzz is such a good album, Sam's Town good as well, but I swear that debut has some awesome songs, not even just the singles.
Also, Make Believe is a fine pop rock album. When it came out it was a flaming pile of garbage based on the anticipation, but looking back, its just a regular ol' inoffensive rock album. Besides "Beverly Hills"...that song makes my ears bleed. |
KjSwantko
08.02.17 | Yep these are true; realistically probably 95% of bands fit the bill here though.

Honestly, it's just the "gimme-gimme" and imo bad sounding/lazy end of guitar part in the chours. Kind of ruins the song for me.
Also just time and place for me. Weezer was my #1 at the time and I was anticipating that album so much and I specifically remember when and where I first heard "Beverely Hills" on the radio and it just, idk, 14 yr old me died a little bit lol. |
