05.27.17 | Then what kinds of music do you think Symphonic Metal should incorporate if not the ones from the times, where the only kind of music in existence was symphonic? |

05.28.17 | writing decent symphonic music requires that you have at least some understanding of music theory and music history, and the baroque, classical, and romantic periods are both more familiar and easier to grasp from a theory perspective. i'd hazard a guess that the kinds of people who devote enough time to studying music to know what makes Shostakovich Shostakovich, tend not to be all that interested in metal by that point.
still, i imagine people like that must be out there. would be cool to see a Stravinsky-inspired metal band or something |

05.28.17 | hesperus it's probably because modern/comtemporary music (mostly the atonal/experimental stuff) doesn't fit tonal music at all, since the rules are simply completly different. Metal is an extremly codified genre, so the crossover would make little sense. |

05.28.17 | "It baffle me a lot when you say yo dislike therion"
i didn't say that because i've never heard therion but yeah frankly i have no desire to do so |

Thay have been avant-garde metal for decades, why this wouldn't work? |
Azertherion
05.28.17 | Avant-garde is the extreme opposite of academism, and XXth century's modern music is the epithome of academical music (as bizarre as it sounds).
While the question whether it would work or not remains unsolvable, this doesn't change the fact that modern music itself is very rarely "symphonic". If such crossover exists someday, it certainly won't be "symphonic". |
