Top 10 Favorite bands (redux)
Because my music tastes have changed a lot in the past few months. Quite a few updates to my previous list. Honorable mentions to Rise Against, Origin, Mastodon (#11), Avenged Sevenfold (#12), Gojira. Also, my friend made a fav. bands list and I felt like I should 1-up him. |
10 | Watain
Probably a surprise the Watain is here and other bands such as Burzum (overrated), Immortal, and Mayhem aren't here. I just prefer the "cleaner" production that they have and I think that they do make fantastic black metal. And still, They Rode On. |
9 | Amon Amarth
A bit less "serious" as some of the other bands on here, Amon Amarth is just good Melodic Death with some great riffs, solid vocals, and just amazing music videos. Seriously, many of them are incredibly high quality. Also, before the comments mention it, I have been checking out In Flames. |
8 | Devin Townsend Project
Devin can be Heavy as a Really Heavy Thing and incredibly melodic. One thing is for sure though, you go on a ride whenever you listen to one of his songs. Progressive and just amazing, Devin is just awesome. I'm running out of adjectives, but you get the point. |
7 | The Dillinger Escape Plan
Rip these math metal titans. Dissociation is amazing, Calculating Infinity is insane, Miss Machine is epic, I love this band a lot. |
6 | Meshuggah
My opinion of Meshuggah has grown, but so has my exposure to metal. Heavy as normal and quite intricate, Meshuggah djents their way onto the list. |
5 | Testament
Nearly upstaging Megadeth, Testament has come heavier and more interesting recently (gotta love BotS), Megadeth's early work is slightly better, but Testament is an epic band. Easily better than most of the others in the Big 4. |
4 | Iron Maiden
If you saw my last list, this really isn't much of a surprise to find them this high on the list, though they are a bit lower this time around. Fun to listen to and play on the guitar, Iron Maiden is a classic metal band that will be loved for generations to come. |
3 | Megadeth
Switching places with Maiden, Megadeth gets a spot up because I've found myself listening to a bit more thrash lately and currently prefer them over Maiden. |
2 | Emperor
Tied with death for most "5s" from a band and with good reason. Their first two albums stand as monuments for black metal and their music is simply awe inspiring. Very few bands have had such an impact on a genre as Emperor has had on black metal. m/ |
1 | Death
One of the forefathers of tech. Death metal, Chuck and co have a fantastic discography of epicness. With 2 of their albums getting a "5", they are tied with Emperor with highest rated band for me. I just love this band, so much. |
