Swans Ranked: Worst to Best

I finally finished the entirety of Swans discography and here is my official ranking. Some of these I see changing in the future but overall I think it is fairly definitive.
14Swans
Cop

This is the infinitely inferior version of Filth. It is Filth without the songwriting prowess, without the growing power, and without the influence factor. The songs are incredibly heavy but lack any form. They are almost indistinguishable from one another and have little to no interesting qualities to them.
2/5 Favorite Track: Cop
13Swans
Greed

This is the inferior version of Holy Money. It starts with an initial tone and good song in Fool. Than the middle sandwich of the album are songs that don’t go anywhere and don’t fit in the initial feeling of the album. Than it decides to get back on track with another good song in Money Is Flesh. Just a jumbled album with some decent songs.
2.2/5 Favorite Track: Money Is Flesh
12Swans
Filth

Filth is a very influential album that does not do too much for me personally. However, I do feel that this has a growing power that Cop severely lacks. Overall, there is definitely a strong cohesiveness to this album throughout and the title fits it perfectly.
2.5/5 Favorite Track: Stay Here
11Swans
The Burning World

The Burning World has one of the worst starts to any Swans album ever. The beginning tracks feel incredibly distant from the latter half of the album. However, once (She's A) Universal Emptiness comes on it makes up for the initial shortcomings. The rest of the tracks seem to follow this style and are all fairly decent as well.
2.75/5 Favorite Track: (She's A) Universal Emptiness
10Swans
My Father Will Guide Me Up a Rope to the Sky

You know there are a decent amount of good songs on here. It is the inconsistent nature of this album that really make it weak. Songs like My Birth, Inside Madeline, and Eden Prison just add nothing to this album and ruin this albums potential.
3/5 Favorite Track: You Fucking People Make Me Sick
9Swans
Holy Money

I was pleasantly surprised by this one. It has a consistent presence to songwriting. With really only some hiccups in A Screw and Another You. Overall, some consistently decent songs with a creepy tone.
3.2/5 Favorite Track: Coward
8Swans
The Glowing Man

I don’t think this album does anything interesting enough to warrant its run time. However, I think it’s solid and has some interesting ideas to work with. I don’t think this will grow on me though.
3.5/5 Favorite Track: Finally, Peace
7Swans
Love of Life

The weaker yet still great version of White Light. The only big problem with this album is that most of the interlude parts add absolutely nothing to the album.
3.8/5 Favorite Track: No Cure for the Lonely
6Swans
The Great Annihilator

This is just a really consistent album. Despite sounding similar to other albums in their discography it feels like a new sound. Some songs on here are clearly weaker than others but they don’t hurt the album all that much.
3.9/5 Favorite Track: Mother’s Milk or I Am the Sun (I can’t choose)
5Swans
The Seer

This is the sadistic version of the Swans. However, I think it has some intriguing ideas and concepts behind it that warrant the run time. Also, my favorite song on this album does not reflect this album at all and is the most accessible Swans song I can think of.
4.1/5 Favorite Track: Song for a Warrior
4Swans
Children of God

This is just a thematic and consistent album. Every song seems to fit where it belongs and seems to build of one another. Just good stuff.
4.3/5 Favorite Track: Real Love
3Swans
To Be Kind

The demented and evil version of Swans. The sounds on this album are so interesting and catchy. The songs build perfectly and it is the closest that Swans have come to perfecting long songs. Extremely thematic with some of the most haunting stuff Swans have ever released.
4.7/5 Favorite Track: Screen Shot (probably my favorite Swans song)
2Swans
White Light From the Mouth of Infinity

White Light is so amazing due to its songwriting. Just a tight cohesive collection of fantastic songs that blend so well into one another. This is the most accessible album from Swans and that is not a fault at all.
4.75/5 Favorite Track: Failure
1Swans
Soundtracks for the Blind

The most thematic and atmospheric album Swans have ever made. It is infinitely chilling, infinitely interesting, and infinitely haunting. The samples on here are some of the best samples I’ve ever heard. Whether it is a guy explain how he is less fucked up than someone else, a man explaining his eye problems, or an old woman explaining her pain. They all add to the experience that this album gives. This is an experience and I think that is the best way to explain this album.
5/5 Favorite Track: Helpless Child or Animus (I can’t choose)
