04.14.17 | yes, i'm a total fucking poser, i know.
what was that one band/artist for you, sputnikers? |
Atari
04.14.17 | yeah a lot of their best songs are here nice list. my first nofx was shoes - sometimes they just really hit the spot |
Satellite
04.14.17 | shoes is definitely my favorite. i was really taken aback by how good their new one is, too. had been a while since i wasn't at least slightly disappointed by a new nofx album. |
Sinternet
04.14.17 | my first nofx was wolves in sheeps clothing which was pretty ehh so i never biothered jamming them until like two years ago but yeah rules hard |
Satellite
04.14.17 | wolves has some great songs but yeah it's not a very cohesive album |
Crawl
04.14.17 | NOFX was that band for me, too. Heavy Petting Zoo is extremely nostalgic for me, I love the serious songs on that one. |
RunOfTheMill
04.14.17 | Nice list, if I wanted to get in to NOFX where should I start? I've got a buddy who's in love with these guys and I never have a clue of what he's talking about haha
Also that band was Judas Priest for me |
Crawl
04.14.17 | @Run: I don't tend to like greatest hits collections, but that is how I got into NOFX, so maybe try that. If you want an album, I recommend White Trash. |
Atari
04.14.17 | nice to see I'm so sorry tony on here too. no use for a name is pretty nostalgic for me as well and the lyrics in that song get me every time |
Satellite
04.14.17 | i'd say start with punk in drublic. or the decline, if the idea of a nearly 20 minute punk rock opera sounds appealing to you. the latter is definitely their most ambitious release. |
Satellite
04.14.17 | yeah it's a very touching and honest tribute. listening to nufan makes me super sad nowadays. |
Atari
04.14.17 | also that one band/artist for me was the ataris no joke lolz. and I'm talking pre-so long Astoria ataris (end is forever, anywhere but here, blue skies) |
Satellite
04.14.17 | yeah good call crawl. i don't normally care for greatest hits albums either but theirs does their discog justice and would definitely work as an intro to the band. |
Atari
04.14.17 | yeah their greatest hits album is an exception agreed |
RunOfTheMill

04.14.17 | It's a cool album, especially when you consider how bad the one before was. |
Satellite
04.14.17 | in their book they talk about how terrible they were in those days and it's hilarious. they didn't truly figure things out until el hefe joined after ribbed and taught them how to keep their guitars tuned and mike to sing slightly in key.
mike said that hearing bad religion's suffer made him decide to actually try to not suck. |
L4titudes
04.14.17 | I wish I could like this band. I used to fake liking them back in my skater punk days. |
L4titudes
04.14.17 | I do know most of these songs though and I guess on occasion I can tolerate them. 20 would probably be my 1. And Bob is cool but so short. |
charbyno
04.14.17 | For me that band was Iron Maiden. Before I heard them I was just a casual music fan, after I heard them I was hooked on all things metal and rock |
Satellite
04.14.17 | @yourgod understandable. they're certainly not for everyone.
@charb. word. i'm not a huge metal fan but i've always dug maiden and i'm sure they were "that band" for lots of sputnikers. also nofx wrote a song about them... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0MOEkqoYvXU |

04.15.17 | my senior year in hs i roadtripped to cleveland (lol) to see them live for the first time and they opened w/ the decline. shit ruled. |
demigod!
04.15.17 | sweet list man, yeah i always dug these guys a fair bit. punk in drublic is still great to me, along with a ton of other random tunes i stole via limewire back in the day. still need to jam the decline sometime, been meaning to for a while
gotta check out that bio too, I friggin love nutty/druggy musician biogs. |
Satellite
04.15.17 | theirs is definitely the druggiest i've ever read |

04.15.17 | Really important band to the development of my musical taste as a youngin', but I just cannot stand Fat Mike anymore. He just comes off as such a tired, obnoxious cliche. |

04.15.17 | bath of least resistance is awesome, played that one to death on whatever punk-o-rama comp it was on. I think Vol. 6? 7? It was the one with the monkeys recreating the beginning of 2001 on the cover I believe. |

04.15.17 | punk-o-ramas were the shit. discovered tons of bands through those comps. |

04.15.17 | ah cool
the first time I heard separation of church and skate in like middle school I thought it was the coolest thing ever. then I listened to franco un-American and thought the same thing. then I got their greatest hits which led to the other billion punk bands I listen to, they were huge for me too.
will check out the autobiography sounds sweet
sweet you didn't ignore First Ditch Effort
I thought i'd see medio-core on there somewhere |
Trebor.
04.15.17 | minor threat |
Jots
04.15.17 | yeah band was a big gateway act for me too |
Deathconscious
04.15.17 | In Flames, i think. i already loved music before them, but that was the first time i really developed a passion for it. i remember i was checking out some artists and Zombie Inc. came on and instantly i was like "holy shit, this is exactly what ive wanted to hear. this is exactly what ive been looking for." i was listening to shitty metalcore before that because i liked that Gothenburg melodeath riffing but never had much of a taste for the breakdowns. they were my favorite band for years and years after i discovered them. |
Dedes
04.16.17 | August Burns Red. They didn't kickstart my music interest even though I loved the energy and proficiency they had. Their passion and honesty resonated with me. I still think what they write is simple but beautiful. |

04.17.17 | punk-o-rama's were, in fact, the shit Satellite. It's too bad people don't really buy albums physically anymore, because those were such a perfect way to introduce people to all this great punk music. 4 bucks and boom, you just discovered Bad Religion, TSOL, Descendents, The Cramps, Refused, etc. Those Punk-o-Rama's and Vans Warped Tour comps were amazing back then.
It was Vol. 6 "Bath of Least Resistance" was on. I remember now because it was the last Punk-o-Rama that was purely just punk music, as they started throwing in hip hop and indie and whatever the fuck else on every one after that and everyone stopped buying them lol. |
Atari
04.17.17 | hell yeah, the one with the monkeys on it, "Black Eye" by Millencolin was another one of my favorite tracks. just realized they have all the punk-o-rama comps on apple music too! |

04.17.17 | STOP SINGING SONGS ABOUT GIRLS AND LOVE |

04.18.17 | One of my friends from high school loved this band, but I never really tried to get into them tbh. Maybe I should jam. |
Dedes
04.18.17 | Millencolin is pretty sweet. I went through a large pop-punk phase, jammed Life on a Plate quite a bit lol. |
tom79
04.18.17 | first heard separation of church and skate on tony hawks underground in '03, been listening ever since. still jam some cds in my car. sweet list. |
Masochist
04.19.17 | Funny enough, that band for me was Bad Religion. I checked out every Epitaph album I could get because of them (including NOFX).
"The Decline" is one of the greatest punk songs ever written, bar none. Millencolin is incredible, and they also had an undeniable effect on my music (because, like Bad Religion, they were also on Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2). When I asked my sister to make me a mix cd with a list of songs, she put "No Cigar" first (for no reason). As such, that song was the revving engine that started my journey into music beyond radio.
Anyways, excellent list. They put on a hell of a live show, too. |
xfearbefore
04.20.17 | I used to absolutely love Millencolin back when I was like 11 years old because of those Punk-o-Rama comps. "Black Eye" and "No Cigar" (thanks Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2!) were listened to thousands of times. Their early stuff is super fun goofy Swedish pop punk, "Bullion" is a killer song particularly. I still love those guys though you can't help but laugh at their older stuff cause like, they understand English enough to sing in it, but they clearly haven't fully grasped it yet and their syntax makes no sense and it's sort of hilarious. |
Satellite
04.20.17 | yeah i always noticed that about millencolin's older lyrics too. something is just slightly off, but it gives their music a weirdly endearing quality.
they were one of the many bands i discovered because of punk-o-rama. shit, that's how i discovered fucking converge. |
onionbubs
04.20.17 | green day kickstarted my music influence but i don't know a single band who's affected me to the extent of alkaline trio |
AcidCaravan
04.21.17 | I LOVED their old stuff, saw them live 6 times from 1992 to 2003. But my favorite shit from them is their older stuff, I always loved even the "Maximum Rocknroll" comp, which most people (even Mike himself) loathes. It's fucking great, raw, snotty and ignorant as punk rock should always be. Anyway, I think "Ribbed" is my absolute favorite NOFX album. And "So Long and Thanks for All the Shoes". But after the great "Pump Up the Valium" they lost it in my humble opinion... |
Satellite
04.21.17 | oh man, the early ep's are just brutal. my favorite part of their book is them talking about those times. they had no idea what they were doing and audiences hated them but they didn't give a fuck.
have you heard their new one? it's their best since putv imo. |
Satellite
04.21.17 | also fat mike was on doug stanhope's podcast recently. very interesting discussion. hearing 2 of my heroes shooting the shit was pretty awesome.

04.21.17 | Punk-O-Rama was great. That's how I learned about Refused, Motion City Soundtrack, The Black Keys and others ('Rubber Factory' is still my favorite album by the latter). |

06.25.22 | Solid list, agree hard with The Decline at number 1, will have to figure out the rest now.
