DAMN.
Despite my doubts about this album, in between the artwork, the U2 feature, and "HUMBLE.", it's managed to actually surprise me. It's not on the same level as TPAB, or even GKMC though, but it's still worth checking out. All I can say is DAMN.
Best track: ELEMENT.

04.14.17 | Most of the tracks are solid but some of the beats are plain boring. DNA and HUMBLE go hard especially. Also agree the U2 feature is great.

04.14.17 | Most of the tracks are solid but some of the beats are plain boring [2]. Some of the beats are nuts though, and a few jams on it. Its feels scattershot but with lots of sporadically recurring themes. Lots going on with the subtle shots at Drake too, as well as generally shifting the musical style of the songs themselves (and shifting up the style part way through some songs) to make points in tandem with the lyricism, rather than solely doing so through the lyricism. I think its deceptively simple compared to his last 2, having more layers than the first couple of listens reveal (particularly as there are a couple of moments where I can't tell if he's mocking/parodying something or whether its Kendrick's genuine take on a style), but we shall see. Lots to think about which can only be a good thing | onionbubs
