04.07.17 | Fuck what's that movie where this whole family drinks from a spring and become immortal but they end up despising it when all there loved ones are dying? |
Demon of the Fall
04.07.17 | Death is scary, the fact it's impossible to comprehend a world where I don't exist is frightening. You can't actually comprehend it though, I can imagine the world going on (I'm not that arrogant) but you won't be experiencing anything because you have no consciousness, nothingness forever more. This thought used to depress me greatly when I was younger, it's not being able to make sense out of it that bothered me the most. Trying to imagine an absence of consciousness is terrifying! |
MeatSalad
04.07.17 | That's precisely what ends up scaring me yeah, the complete inability to comprehend not existing. I think it's something the human brain can't really process |
Dedes
04.07.17 | Again, that's the reason it's better to let yourself succumb to it. Live happy and free because time wasted thinking about death is time not being happy. |
EphemeralEternity
04.07.17 | But you'll never actually have to experience nothingness (presuming that's what death is) so I don't understand the fear or the point of ruminating on it.
Of course leaving loved ones behind and never knowing how things turn out is not ideal but immortality would eventually become torture imo |
NastyCrab
04.07.17 | yeah probably not an afterlife but I guess no one can say for certain.
If death bums you out you gotta get busy living. Just try to push yourself out of your comfort zone more often. |

Demon of the Fall
04.07.17 | Agreed MeatSalad.
kingded - I know in theory you can't experience nothingness but not being able to imagine it is still a disconcerting thought. Fear of the unknown plays a part here. I spent far too much time contemplating my own existence, so depressing... pleased it's not something I usually dwell on now. |
MeatSalad
04.07.17 | Entirely agreed king, it's not the type of thing I actively try to think about since nothing good comes of it outside of interesting conversation |

Nice.
Also, I'm surprised this thread hasn't turned angry. That's a plus. If you've ever fainted/passed out from low blood pressure then you know that dark feeling of losing consciousness. I feel like dying is exactly that, and then blackness.

04.07.17 | Has anyone ever experienced Sleep Paralysis? Very scary the first time it happens. Anyway, I imagine that to be what it's like dying & then be lifted up to heaven, if such a thing exists. The part where you feel a bit "float-y" & still in a dream like state but can't physically move. Strange. |

legit probably the most important historical moment ill ever live through because it immediately took away a ton of the anxiety i had about dying |
EphemeralEternity
04.07.17 | i didn't even know that. It seems inhumane to prohibit it (provided there are very stringent guidelines about how and when its administered and shit of course) |
Dedes
04.08.17 | As much as I think someone should fight against death as much as they can, euthanasia should be an option if you're terminally ill, simply because a person should be able to choose their own fate regardless of whether or not you agree with it. Of course there should be massive regulations because idk if you guys ever heard about this doctor in Serbia but she gave euthanasia to people who were still undecided and I mean like a HUNDRED of people. There should be very strict watch over how the euthanasia is administered and by who but yeah it should be legal still. |

Why |
Typhoon24
04.08.17 | euthanasia is cool because death is inevitable and it gives people a chance to die perhaps on their own terms (not when their suffering at the peak of their agony or in their sleep) so I'm cool with the idea of suicide....it's just that worry of "could I still lived a happy life?" that would keep me from it if it ever came to it |

12.14.17 | I always imagined people developed the idea of an afterlife because it's impossible to understand what non-existence is like. But it's also pretty difficult to imagine being alive for eternity, which a lot of religious people tend to gloss over when they talk about "heaven" or a similar idea. |

guitarded_chuck
12.14.17 | "I always imagined people developed the idea of an afterlife because it's impossible to understand what non-existence is like."
it's not though
think of before birth
or even just think of all the moments you have forgotten (the vast majority of time you've been alive) |
DoofusWainwright
12.14.17 | 'being alive for eternity, which a lot of religious people tend to gloss over when they talk about "heaven" or a similar idea'
I think the idea is 'time' wouldn't exist/wouldn't be experienced in the same way in a 'religious' afterlife.
I mean you'd transcend from thinking about what Dominos topping is your favourite and which Karashian you'd hump on this higher plain, because an eternity of that (thinking as a human) would indeed be hell. We couldn't be the way we are for eternity, you'd have to fundamentally change into some other form of consciousness in that scenario. Sorry to burst bubbles.
That's why this 'cyborg eternity' thing sounds awful, because once you stop needing to eat pizza and fuck you stop being human. You need that stuff or you might as well not exist, because otherwise there's nowt necessary about you continuing. There'll be nothing 'intellectually unique' about you worth persevering for.
