It's my birthday - Music through the ages
I'm turning 27, I don't want to grow up anymore, Anyway here is what I listened in during my life and the age I approximately did it. |
1 | Seru Giran
Age: Around 8-12. This is an Argentinian band, pretty popular in Argentina, My father had this compilation compact casette. You want a reference? His leader was none other than Charly Garcia. The Argentinean equivalent of PInk Floyd or genesis...although they were labeled as "The Argentinean beatles" |
2 | Limp Bizkit
Age: 11-13. Nu-metal was HUGE at that time. I used to watch limp bizkit's videos on mtv everyday. I actually asked one of my best friends of the time to lend me his significant other audio casette, and a CD of the chocolate starfish so I could copy it. Some people were huge fans of korn. I was a huge fan of limp bizkit. Don't judge me. |
3 | Soda Stereo
Age: From 13-14. Yeah, I recall watching the music video for Gustavo Cerati's tabĂș, I somehow knew he was the lead singer from soda stereo, so at one point I started digging the band and I became obsessed with them. I had the opportunity to watch them in theie reunion tour in 2007 in Cordoba. One of my favourite concerts ever. |
4 | Nirvana
Age: 14-16. I think I was the only idiot in my whole class to listen to nirvana, seriously. This was the point I felt weird while talking about music. In the region I live, 90's music, especially rock or metal is not a very popular genre, so I was in constant fights with my classmates. Do you want to know what the people listen here? it's called cuarteto, a danceable genre very popular in my province (or estate if you live in the U.S.). |
5 | The Smashing Pumpkins
Age: 15-17 Now we are getting to the real deal. This was the first band I was proud of becoming a hardcore fan. More technical, the lyrics were more meaningful to me. They opened me a new world of styles and I became more mature of how I appreciated music. An autistic fact: I used to listen "where boys fear to tread" every time the girl I used to chat got on messenger |
6 | Soundgarden
Age: 17-19. This is the point where I became like Kratos in god of war. AMAZING BAND. weird time signatures, badass songs. The first time I listened to a real GOD VOCALIST like Cornell. One of my favourite bands ever. |
7 | Genesis
Age: 19-20. What happened? well I got tired of the modern music so I went back in time, instead of following my father's obsession with pink floyd I take the other way and started listened to them. Here's when I got interested in classical music and complex compositions and yeah, from this point I started fighting every idiot who thought Phil Collins was the original vocalist of the band. Stupid ignorant people. |
8 | Nine Inch Nails
Age: 20-21. Sadly I USED TO LISTEN TO THEM. I think I explained the reasons but I'll do it again so you don't go to the other lists to search for it. I knew this girl on internet during my teenage years. I had a crush on her, she was a HUGE nine inch nails fan. I almost start dating her, an stupid physics student which I compared to fuckin Sheldon Cooper started dating her and our friendship got screwed up. Since then I don't have a fucking idea about hesistation marks or the last ep. No, I'm not going to listen to it. |
9 | Aphex Twin
Age: 21-23. You get older, you have a tendency to go from noise to chill out music, or sth like that. I think this was the first real electronic musician I appreciated. Selected ambient works is pure genious. Love the music video for windowlicker: "I DON'T GIVE A FUCK HOLMES" |
10 | Yes
Age: 23-25. Again. Great fascination for progressive rock, even more than genesis. I went to a Jon Anderson's solo concert. Sad thing the place was full of old people but I didn't regret of going to his gig. |
11 | Meshuggah
Age: 26- today, And here we are today. I'm listening right now to mastodon, but meshuggah is still winning the fight. Guess I'll have to dig em a little more |
