| A Few Bands I've Been Enjoying Lately
Really kind of self-explanatory list, no real order of importance. | 1 | Death
Heavy, riff driven, and just plain awesome, Death is a more recent "discovery" on my part and I have no regrets. They're epic. | 2 | Devin Townsend Project
This guy is just insane. Incredibly complex arrangements, interesting lyrics, and an amazing discography. Though it wouldn't be one of my favorite bands, Devin Townsend is still awesome. | 3 | Amon Amarth
Viking metal m/ | 4 | Meshuggah
I've already talked about these guys on my favorite bands list, but I fin that I keep enjoying them more and more. Gotta love Meshuggah. | 5 | Mastodon
These guys have not made a bad album. From the crushing Leviathan to the more prog-ish Emperor of Sand, Mastodon lives up to the reputation that they've been given in a splendid manner. | 6 | Watain
And who said Black Metal has garbage production? Having heavy music and solid production, Watain has figured out how to make good black metal and I got to say that it is quite enjoyable. | 7 | Emperor
Symphonic Black Metal is awesome and In The Nightside Eclipse is a classic, along with basically every other album of theirs. | 8 | Testament
I had mentioned that these thrash titans as an honorable mention on my favorite bands list, but now that I've had a chance to listen to them more, they certainly surpass both Metallica, Slayer, and Anthrax on epic thrash. | 9 | Rammstein
Epic industrial Metal and intense German Lyrics. Or at least they sound intense, I still don't know German though. | 10 | The Dillinger Escape Plan
Math metal to the awesome level. The more I listen, the more I love. | |
Snake.

04.06.17 | there are a few good bands here | Rik VII
04.06.17 | Rammstein are worse when you understand the lyrics, so don't bother ;)
Nice list aside from that though! | evilford

04.06.17 | I wouldn't call OMRtS or The Hunter "bad", just not as good as anything else they've done. | evilford
04.06.17 | the hunter was mediocre. omrts was actually bad imo, so bland and stale. but that seems to be an unpopular opinion around here so feel free to disagree! | elliootsmeuth
04.06.17 | I have a tough time calling anything bad tbh. That's why my objectivity rating is 60%. For Mastodon standards, OMRtS is p bad. Definitely my least favorite of their albums. | evilford
04.06.17 | yeah I think most of the stuff I listen to is at least better than "average" music. guess it depends on your definition of average. but yeah OMRTS is one of the few albums I've heard lately that I'd actually feel comfortable calling "bad". their new 1 was a huge improvement imo. | Confessed2005
04.06.17 | Lots of cool bands here dude. | pjquinones747
04.06.17 | Good list of essential metal bands here. | KManoc1
04.06.17 | Amon Amarth is Melodic Death Metal, not Viking Metal. | InFlamesWeThrash666
04.06.17 | check early In Flames | fullautorpg
04.06.17 | Amon Amarth is Melodic Death Metal, not Viking Metal.
They're technically that, but they are also Viking Metal and they fit into that sub-genre rather nicely. A sub-genre not acknowledged by Sputnik. | KManoc1
04.06.17 | "but they are also Viking Metal"
In terms of most of their lyrics, yes.
In terms of instrumentation, no. | hasan
04.06.17 | i like mastodon |
