03.31.17 | Nice list, will check some of these as I've only heard the Fen record.
Which would you say is the best/your favourite of these, mr panda man? |

03.31.17 | 13 is easily my favorite of the ones I've heard. I do dig the new Power Trip album but I think I enjoyed Manifest Decimation just a little more. I listened to Pillorian about 4 or 5 times really expecting something great, but it just didn't do much for me. Definitely digging the new Falls of Rauros and The Great Old Ones albums, but will need to check everything else on this list I haven't heard. Thanks for posting! |

03.31.17 | have you listened to Fen, DungeonBoy? |

03.31.17 | I've tried getting into most of their albums and just can't. Oddly enough, I really liked the Ancient Sorrow demo when it came out, but I'm just missing something with their latter releases. I've heard good things about the new one, so I'll give it a spin. I've been meaning to jam that Woe album, I heard a single off of it and really liked it. |

03.31.17 | 3 and 9 are my current leaders, though Opprobre's "Le Naufrage" isn't far back

05.08.18 | Thanks for all the comments and further suggestions (and sorry for replying only now)! Of the albums on this list, Lunar Shadow's "Far From Light" ended up being my album of the year. It's not a perfect album, but it it's so full of passion, drive, and ideas that I can't help but loving it! :-)
I actually came to like Pillorian quite a bit, although it doesn't reach the heights of albums like "The Mantle" or "Ashes Against The Grain". But compared to similarly styled releases of 2017 I think it holds up quite well and I keep returning to it from time to time.
I only managed to properly listen to Immolation's latest album after I'd made this list; it did end up on my overall best of list of 2017. ;-)
I need to check out Opprobre; that somehow flew under my radar. |
