| My Favorite 10 Jethro Tull Songs
This is a rough guide. It could change by next week. I didn't include "Thick as a Brick" because it's more of a suite than a song. | 10 | | Jethro Tull Songs from the Wood
"Velvet Green"
Probably the lustiest song Ian Anderson ever wrote. | 9 | | Jethro Tull Songs from the Wood
"Songs from the Wood"
Two songs make the list from my favorite Tull album. "Life's long celebration's here". | 8 | | Jethro Tull Stormwatch
"Dun Ringill"
One of Tull's best folky songs. I actually asked my tour guide if there was such a place when I was in Scotland, but he'd never heard of it. But according to Wikipedia, it's "an Iron Age hill fort on the Strathaird peninsula on the island of Skye, Scotland." This concludes the educational portion of our list. | 7 | | Jethro Tull Too Old To Rock 'n' Roll: Too Young To Die!
"Too Old to Rock 'n' Roll: Too Young to Die"
Ian said it best: "You're never too old to rock 'n' roll/If you're too young to die" | 6 | | Jethro Tull A
"Black Sunday"
Even if you've never been a fan of Jethro Tull's synthesizer period, it was worth it for this track alone. Even the intro is great. | 5 | | Jethro Tull Aqualung
"Cross-Eyed Mary"
"Locomotive Breath" and "Aqualung" have been played so often that sadly, I don't really hear them anymore. But this one is still fresh. Another song with a great intro. | 4 | | Jethro Tull Benefit
"With You There to Help Me"
A strange and very unique song from Tull's early days. | 3 | | Jethro Tull Living in the Past
"Life Is a Long Song"
Another Tull song that demonstrates a great love of life. Sort of an early harbinger of "Songs from the Wood". | 2 | | Jethro Tull War Child
"Skating Away on the Thin Ice of a New Day"
Meanwhile, back in the year 1 ... | 1 | | Jethro Tull Heavy Horses
"Heavy Horses"
To the best of my knowledge, the only love song in rock history to the English plow horse. And damn, it's so sincere! | |

03.22.17 | Nothing from "stand up"??
New day yesterday, look into the sun are must
Also my god from aqualung | Divaman
03.22.17 | I love "Look Into the Sun", it just didn't make my top 10 list. I like "New Day Yesterday" OK, but to be honest, it wasn't even close. Same with "My God". The ones that just missed were all from later periods -- "Under Wraps #2", "The Clasp" and "Budapest". And maybe "Jack-a-Lyn". | Egarran
03.22.17 | Disagree with most of it, but the intro to Cross-eyed Mary is indeed amazing. | Divaman
03.22.17 | No problem, taste is what it is. I'm not going to claim these are their best 10 songs, they're just my personal favorites. What are some of the songs you'd have chosen, Egarran? | smaugman
03.22.17 | minstrel in the gallery?? | Jethro42
03.22.17 | Nice list, Diva. 4 has grown on me since you often mentioned it in a thread or another, but it wouldn't be a top 10.
1, 5, 6, 7, 9 and 10 would potentially be in my list.
Mine would include ''Critique Oblique'', ''Law of the Bungle'' part II, ''Living in the Past'', ''Moths'', ''We Used to Know'' and ''Beside Myself''. I love ''Black Satin Dancer'' too. I feel I forget a lot of songs.

03.22.17 | No thick as a brick? No My God? Sad... | smaugman
03.22.17 | "I didn't include "Thick as a Brick" because it's more of a suite than a song."
read bgillesp, he says it near the top | wham49
03.22.17 | for a thousand mothers, nothing is easy, Dharma for one, to name a few old school Tull tunes | Divaman
03.22.17 | Yeah, if I treated "Thick as a Brick" as a song, it would definitely be in there. | JamieTwort
03.22.17 | Excellent list. Good taste in Tull. | Divaman
03.22.17 | Thanks Jamie and Jethro. All good songs, wham. | JamieTwort
03.22.17 | It says top 10 underrated but this is pretty close to just being my top 10:
http://www.sputnikmusic.com/list.php?listid=127763 | Sowing
03.22.17 | Heavy Horses is my fave Jethro as well | Divaman
03.22.17 | Btw, for all Tull fans who might be interested, Jethro Tull - The String Quartets releases on March 24. It's classic Tull songs, orchestrated. | JamieTwort
03.22.17 | Not sure I fancy that tbh. David Palmer's orchestration during their classic era was great as it decorated their songs tastefully. I don't really fancy full on orchestral Tull. | TheSpaceMan
03.22.17 | 1 is my 1. I love orion and weathercock a lot too. They remind me of my childhood | Divaman
03.22.17 | I kind of agree, Jamie. But I'll give it a shot anyway, just out of deference to Ian. |
