Greatest Songs of All Time I Remember Right Now
List is List is List |
1 | | Don McLean American Pie
American Pie by Doan McLean ~ Childhood memories of playing this in some Guitar Hero spinoff. . . I re-discovered this song via radio when I moved from Venezuela to the United States. I am not traditionally a fan of country rock or Americana or whatever this might be, but this breaks my perception of the genre(s) |
2 | | Neutral Milk Hotel In the Aeroplane Over the Sea
Oh Comely by Neutral Milk Hotel ~ First heard this track (and the entire album) on my dying laptop, inside a camper van while it was dark inside and pouring outside and it elicited a strong reaction from me. It took me a while to read into the lyrics but the aura the song portrays got to me regardless. |
3 | | Kanye West My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy
Runaway by Kanye West ~ I do not understand how a man so hard to relate with, with such a luxurious and bombastic lifestyle, with such arrogant character, can make a song so instantly relatable. Awe-struck by this track every single time |
4 | | Paul McCartney Ram
Uncle Albert / Admiral Halsey by Paul McCartney ~ One of my dad's all time favorite pop tracks (the only other two I'm aware of being EWTRTW by Tears for Fears and the Carpenter's Close To You) amongst a large quantity of other music that influenced me. Multi-faceted, glorious little tune. |
5 | | Genesis The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway
The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway by Genesis ~ Album is the best of the best in prog rock, and title track is the best of the best in the album. A grandiose introduction, grooves pretty fucking hard too. |
6 | | Mark Ronson Uptown Special
Uptown Funk by Mark Ronson feat. Bruno Mars ~ I forgot. |
7 | | They Might Be Giants Flood
Birdhouse in Your Soul by They Might Be Giants ~ Wonderfully complex power pop masterpiece... Only bought Flood recently, but I feel as if I've heard this song millions of times in the past. |
8 | | Blur The Great Escape
The Universal by Blur ~ Unforgettable and emblematic. An anthem this powerful only graces humanity every so often... Gorgeous opening strings and Albarn's voice is more than just pleasant, airy and whimsical as it tends to be in later Blur and Gorillaz albums- Here, his voice feels and sounds and resonates like few other. It is a breathtaking performance, it is a breathtaking song, and it is a paradigm of its own title. |
9 | | David Bowie The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars
Five Years by David Bowie ~ I ashamedly got into Bowie's discography in a time where it felt restricted and shameful to do so; After hearing about the release of a new album titled Blackstar only last year, and after listening and watching the title track's music video, I felt compelled to follow the man's path up to that point in his career; I wanted to see what compelled him to conjure up such conceptual and relevant music so late into his life. Five Years was amongst the first Bowie songs I heard after the Blackstar single, Five Years was amongst the few songs I listened to until the end of 2016, and Five Years was perhaps the first song I listened to after the annoucement of his passing. |
