For a serious answer, you might like the band Hum. From what I've heard they're leaning towards a shoegaze sound, but it's not laid on too heavy. Their album Downward is Heavenward is their most widely recognized. There's also the band Failure, which is reminiscent of that 90's grunge but sounds more modern. Some people call them American rock though so idk | rabidfish
