AFI - Sing The Sorrow Ranked
My 100th list is about to be a damn good one. This album means more to me than most do. It's the reason I am the music nerd I am today. This may be a cliche, but it's a part of me. It's my favorite album by my favorite band and all of these tracks are very special to me.
I'm including everything released around this time. Also not including Miseria Cantare because I don't know how to rank intro songs. |

Reivers' Music - I normally have to remind myself that this song exists but it's definitely a great one. |
14 | | AFI Sing the Sorrow
Dancing Through Sunday - You know this is going to be a good list if my least favorite song on the actual album has one of the sickest solos Jade has ever recorded. This track bangs. |
13 | | AFI Sing the Sorrow
Silver and Cold - a tad lower than most people would want but idk, I think it's because my favorite part of the song isn't the chorus but rather the godly second verse. Like damn, that part is awesome. Bridge is great too. |
12 | | AFI Sing the Sorrow
Synesthesia - this song sounds super Art of Drowning and that's pretty awesome. The guitar and bass rip and the chorus is outstanding. |
11 | | AFI Sing the Sorrow
Now The World - This song falls under the category of: it's a bonus song so I listen to it less than I should, but this is really a good one. Great chorus and the second half is so beautiful. |
10 | | AFI Sing the Sorrow
The Leaving Song Pt 2 - Probably the song that took the most influence from past work. It's a true bridge from their hardcore days to their modern era. |
9 | | AFI Sing the Sorrow
This Time Imperfect - the true finale to one of my favorite albums. The way it builds works perfectly and that final chorus ends the album tremendously. |
8 | | AFI Sing the Sorrow
Bleed Black - I have been in love with this song recently. A few weeks ago, it probably would have been lower. The chorus is magical and the fact that this band still has songs that grow on me (even though I've always loved this song) is amazing. |
7 | | AFI Sing the Sorrow
Girl's Not Grey - My first AFI song. I heard it in Rock Band 2. This was a time when i wasn't sure if they were an acronym or pronounced aff-eye. This will probably always be my favorite single they put out and one of my favorite songs of all time. Make no mistake when you see this song this low, I think this one is nothing short of perfect. |
6 | | AFI Sing the Sorrow
Death of Seasons - This song goes harder than anything else on the album. Davey's screams are legit and this is one of my favorite choruses. Plus that end section is definitely an album highlight. |
5 | | AFI Sing the Sorrow
The Leaving Song - The first soft song I heard by these guys and I was mesmerized. My thought process in middle school was that I wasn't supposed to like the soft stuff more than the rockier stuff but I think this was realistically my favorite AFI song when I was first getting into them. One of the most beautiful things I've ever heard and it will always hold a place in my heart. |
4 | | AFI Sing the Sorrow
Paper Airplanes (Makeshift Wings) - There is a live recording of them playing this for the first time that I urge you all to listen to considering how awesome this song is. I always wondered why they haven't played it live but they finally did it. |
3 | | AFI Sing the Sorrow
...but home is nowhere - This was one of my least favorites on the album for the longest time and yes, I can see where I went wrong. This song is an absolute beast and one of their crowning achievements. Once I finally accepted this as one of their best songs, it has never ceased to give me chills. |
2 | | AFI Sing the Sorrow
The Great Disappointment - The atmosphere that this song evokes is one of the most somber things I have ever heard. I find myself going to this song in times of extreme sadness. It's probably this band's most depressing song.
And I literally just read that they played it tonight....fuck me. |

This Celluloid Dream - This band closed with this masterpiece at NYC the other night and it was the most perfect choice they could have picked. This is my second favorite AFI song currently. I think it's the perfect blend of everything in their mainstream era. Simply put, it's just one of the best songs ever. |
