01.23.17 | I'd appreciate your personal experiences using that site |
MotokoKusanagi
01.23.17 | it's the same as buying from any online market, check seller rating/reviews. i've never had any problems and i've bought some expensive pieces on there |

bought for first time a week ago, very secure. I bought a really expensive copy, too. Just make sure to have good sellers. |
Frippertronics
01.23.17 | I use it a great deal, and I've had next to no problems with the people who sell on there (only had two bad experiences, but bad service is rare)
Just be a bit patient if they don't get back to you ASAP unless you just happen to buy it as soon as they put it up for sale. Also, make sure to ask questions if there's nothing the description so you know what you're getting.
THE bad experiences I've had:
Tried to buy David Bowie's Sound and Vision vinyl box set since the guy had it for cheap, and right before I was gonna pay for it, he made up a story that the records were damaged and gave no explanation for withdrawing the box set for sale. This also coincidentally occurred right around the time he died, so the guy probably sold it for triple the amount I was going to pay.
Another, I already paid for the record and I got it. The problem, was that he said he cleaned his records before sending them. The record I got looked like absolute shit AND the cover was missing. I was told he used my cover as shipping materials for another order and by chance, fucked up so badly he forgot he sent me the record WITHOUT the cover. He didn't even refund me and when I pressed him about it, he had the gall to offer like three bucks back off an order that was totally botched due to his incompetence.
So, the lesson for you here is: be patient, but be cautious. You can find some really cool and/or rare stuff on there, some of which you may not even know existed in the first place. |

if the seller looks sketchy ask for pictures, and then reverse image search them so you know they haven't just ripped the pics from somewhere else, and ask for photos in a specific stupid situation (for example ask them to write a word on a piece of paper and include it in all their shots)
if they can't do this they're aither sketchy or lazy and so it's not worth your time and money, especially when getting expensive stuff

01.23.17 | Damn Fripp, that second one is real bad |
Frippertronics
01.23.17 | Yeah, I managed to get a mint replacement copy a few months later so it turned out fine. Forgot to mention the records were warped, barely playable and the labels were water damaged. Dude got fucking destroyed when I left feedback. |
Frippertronics
01.23.17 | Also, ALWAYS ask for pictures. I do it out of habit, and just to hold myself over (lol) until it arrives. Gets me fucking excited every time, especially when it's coming from overseas. |

01.23.17 | Ayyyyyy props for checkin' Ramadan
No experience with discogs though so can't help ya there |
Frippertronics
01.23.17 | Sometimes if they can, sellers will post sound samples. Just a heads up, though it's not common. |
50iL
01.23.17 | Lmao Fripp what did you write?
Also, that paper thing is a good idea Sint |
Frippertronics
01.23.17 | Actually, I ended up leaving him a neutral review because I wasn't AS mad at the time. Only later did I get totally pissed over it. So, I remembered wrong. It was the dude who was selling the box set I left a bad review for and he went ghost right after it too. |
50iL
01.23.17 | Huh |
Frippertronics
01.23.17 | REVIEW: No communication, abrupt cancellation with no excuse aside from a poorly worded excuse. The seller most likely never had the item in question.
The context behind this picture: He left me waiting for about a month before giving me some bullshit excuse as to why nothing was said. His silence corresponded with Bowie's death.

01.23.17 | as long as your seller seems good you should be fine. i've ordered about a dozen records from the site and nothing's been out of line from what i've ordered so far. |
50iL
01.23.17 | Holy shit, fucking roasted |
Drifter
01.23.17 | Yeah I love this site. I get rare stuff from it all the time |

01.23.17 | yeah its a great site, try to be in contact with who you're buying from, and always try to leave feedback, whether good or bad, to help other ppl in the future. also remember that a lot of purchases are over seas and will be more $$ then you expect for shipping so always check what it is when lurking around and making a dream list |
TheSpaceMan
01.23.17 | but in terms of reliability I've only had issue with a couple records, none that i felt jipped over. just things that coulda been mentioned like sticker residue, light ring wear on older covers, and slightly torn inserts. they were few and far between and wouldnt have stopped me from copping them at a shop so |
RLWFormula
01.23.17 | I've always used Amazon, tbh. |
AsleepInTheBack
01.23.17 | pretty much all the experiences I've had with it have been hugely positive, but yeah just check out the seller before buying |
Astral Abortis
01.23.17 | Just make sure feedback is okay and you'll be fine. I've had two bad experiences:
1: a guy sent me a bootleg tape when he said he was selling an original
2: a seller sent me the completely wrong thing i ordered, although by the same artist which was another thing i wanted for around the same price so it was no harm done overall but i still dont have the thing i originally ordered lol |
bakkermaarten007
01.23.17 | I recently bough Arvo Pärt's Tabula Rasa on Discogs and while the vinyl itself was near mint, the gatefold was heavily damaged with foxing. Still not really regretting the buy, since the pressing is so great. But yeah, the difficult part is interpreting what sellers really mean with the descripted conditions. Some are eager to use 'near mint' or 'mint' when that's not really the case.
Also: some sellers will ship in thin package.

01.23.17 | Thanks for all the help guys! I feel more confident now about using it. |

01.23.17 | And also, I have been using amazon a lot, but I often get cracked or broken jewel cases from top rated sellers (tolerable and easy to fix but annoying). Plus this album isn't available many places |
Halfman
01.24.17 | I've made roughly ten orders from Discogs and I've never had a bad experience. People are pretty good about how they grade the condition of their items, so don't necessarily be wary of buying something graded Very Good +. |
