You're giving me mixed signals here |
ScuroFantasma
01.04.17 | Also that new live album from Mayhem is awesome agreed |

01.04.17 | Crucify me, but I don't really care much for DM (sorry, Ulcerate, I tried). Atmo-Black, though... you posted a few of my favorites for the year. |
Sevengill
01.04.17 | @Scuro haha I should resolve to listen to a wider variety of music this year. and yeah I might like that one better than the original, honestly.
@Toad sweeet let me know which hook you
@MikeHunt aw, that gives me butterflies. I presume you've checked my ABM list then, if I haven't yet pitched it to you two or three times |

01.04.17 | "I might like that one better than the original, honestly."
It's almost blashpemous...and yet on my first listen I honestly had the same thought |

01.04.17 | Enjoyed that Rorcal album. It's brutal. |
L4titudes
01.04.17 | 4 and 8 were great. Still gotta check new DsO. Huge fan of Melancholie, not so much Autumn. |
Dinosaur
01.04.17 | I disagree with some of this. 10, 5, and 4 are excellent. 6 and 8 need more listens. 3 is great, even if i prefer other things for sporadic melo-death cravings. I liked 2, but it needs more time. Haven't heard the new DsO, but i generally feel the same way about DsO as i do Ulcerate. As far as Saor goes, Aura rubbed me the wrong way. never got past the first couple songs. |
L4titudes
01.04.17 | Same in regard to Saor. You guys really thought 5 was excellent? hm didn't think it brought much to the table on my first listen |
Sevengill
01.04.17 | for what it's worth, Guardians has a noticeably different feel than Aura. It's heavier on strings and buildups, and the songs feel more varied and less cluttered. You might still want to give it a go. |

01.04.17 | I 2.5d two of these. 2 rules hard though and 4 is pretty great too. Didn't know about live Mayhem till now but I definitely need to check it soon. |
Sevengill
01.04.17 | yeah a bunch of these either click with you or don't. like I can see being bored to death by 10 or finding 5 to be an overstuffed mess, but that's why everyone makes their own list.
@budgie I poked around Hermodr a little -- he released like four albums/eps this year -- and liked it but didn't love it. I'll be giving those another look though. |
budgie
01.04.17 | ah that's too bad. if you are going to give him another look, don't forgo vinter. that's probably my favorite BM album, period |
Dedes
01.05.17 | 1 and 7 rocked, actually I think Saors Guardians is one of my favorites of the year as well. |
Sevengill
01.05.17 | favorite period? damn. guess that pushes it up my to-do list. |

01.05.17 | sounds like every band trying to be WoD from 10 years ago :3 |

01.05.17 | hey, a simple "no" would have sufficed.
anyway, first time through I sorta lost track of songs since the album has two gears: slow harmonized acoustic guitars, and super-buzzy drone riffs with the aforementioned placeholder drumming. that's certainly not a dealbreaker, since those droney riffs create a great atmosphere, and feature some interesting chords and combinations. the vocals were spot-on, with the whispers in the title track standing out not only as great for the song, but a signature sound for Hermodr. the presence of bass is very welcome, and the two-part riffs clearly work with the bass in what sounds like fairly intricate composition even at a crawling pace. overall it's a very coherent album, and a well-realized one. I don't often indulge in the doomier side of black metal, but I feel like this album will be a grower for me. tentative 4/5. |
budgie
01.05.17 | for sure! the drone riffs coupled with those chanting vocals are what bring it home for me. it's magical/ |
