Best of 2016: Shit Taste Edition

I didn't really listen to much or break into any new genres in 2016, so these are my very subjective and very shit choices for best songs/album of the year. I'm doing this because I'm unemployed and have nothing else.
1Joyce Manor
Cody

Stairs - My favorite song of the year was a tongue-in-cheek pop punk track that somehow manages to plumb emotional depths that betrayed my first impression. Every line Barry cries out sounds like some urgent warning that he just can't seem to put into words properly. I don't know why this track affected me so much, but it's definitely my most listened to song of the year.

"I'll lock you in my room, and I'll tie you to the sheets
Because I could watch you sleep for weeks
All the things you'd never see if sleep were up to me"
2Teen Suicide
It's the Big Joyous Celebration..

The Hurricane - Teen Suicide's massive 2016 release had many career highlights, but this bizarre, distressing, and very beautiful track stood out among the record's 26 songs. The Hurricane utilizes a range of strange electronic elements to create the most unique soundscape of the band's career.

"Release the wind, release the fog
The skin will dry like alcohol
Release the wind, release the fog
The world will be a waterfall"
3Owen
The King of Whys

Lost - While the new American Football album was a big letdown for me, Kinsella's other 2016 release was one of my favorite Owen records. Listening to Mike talk about how much he regrets his boring life as a Dad is oddly soothing, and Lost is probably the best representation of that.

"Stay poor and die trying
Take the drugs I didn't take
Lay the whores I didn't lay
Because I was too afraid that I might like it"
4Bon Iver
22, A Million

8 (circle) - Circle feels like a diamond in the rough of 22, A Million, and that's not a slight against the rest of the experimental album. The track has a restrained beauty that feels like a very natural progression from Bon Iver's previous record.

"Too much for me to pick up
Not sure what forgiveness is
We've galvanized at the squall of it all
I can leave behind the harbour" (I don't know what this means)
5The Hotelier
Goodness

End of Reel - I'm still not that into naked old people, but this is probably the prettiest song I've heard all year. After being colossally bummed out since their last album, it was nice of The Hotelier to give me permission to stop.

"In the light of the day, stabilize and reset
And then burn in the image until I can't forget
And end ceaselessly speaking until nothing is unsaid
I don't know what I want what I want is where I've been"
6Radiohead
A Moon Shaped Pool

True Love Waits - This is cheating, but I can't think of anything else.

"AND TRUUUUUE LOOOOVE WAAAAAITS"
