| Most Disappointing Albums of 2016

Cardinal
I saw these guys on a morning television show and thought they sounded pretty good. When the album came out, it got a nice write-up on Sputnik, and some relatively high ratings. I liked a few tracks, like "Then Again", but on the whole, the album just didn't do it for me. | | 4 |  | Young the Giant
Home Of The Strange
I thought their first album was good, and that maybe they had the potential for more. The second album seemed like a step back to me, but I still hoped maybe it was just a sophomore slump. The Astonishing
This is a band I've liked in the past, but they clearly missed with this one. I think some of the problem is they have about one album's worth of good music here, but they needed two albums to tell the story they wanted to tell. They aimed high, but this was a fail. | | 1 |  | Bastille
Wild World
This was my biggest disappointment of 2016. I really liked their last album a lot -- it made my Top Ten of the Year list. But there's nothing on this one close to being as good as either "Pompeii" or "Thing We Lost in the Fire". And the little snippets of movie dialogue they feel the need to insert into every other song makes me want to slap them. | |
