| My Favorite 10 Procol Harum Albums
Procol Harum is that rarest of animals, a truly unique band. Between Gary Brooker's distinctive voice and Keith Reid's epic-fantasy-inspired lyrics, there's no one else that sounds quite like them. | | 10 | | Procol Harum Something Magic
I don't love this album. That 3-part suite "The Worm and the Tree" is pretty godawful, especially compared to their earlier multi-part songs. But I do like the title track and "Strangers in Space", and none of the albums after 1977 really sound like Procol Harum. | | 9 | | Procol Harum Procol's Ninth
I do like this album. "Pandora's Box" by itself would make it worthwhile, and I actually like their uncharacteristic cover of "Eight Days a Week". | | 8 | | Procol Harum Broken Barricades
Most Procol fans seem to like this album better than I do. I suspect that's because it's very guitar-based, and for me, Procol should be mostly a keyboards-based band. I love the title track, though. | | 7 | | Procol Harum Grand Hotel
Not a perfect album, but the highlights are very strong, especially "Fires (Which Burnt Brightly)" and the title track. And "A Souvenir from London" makes me smile (and grimace a little) every time. | | 6 | | Procol Harum Live with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra
I usually only include studio albums on these lists, but this is one of the classic live albums of the '70s, and actually contains their second-highest charting single, the live version of "Conquistador". And again, I just can't bring myself to include their post-1977 stuff on a Top Ten list. | | 5 | | Procol Harum Exotic Birds and Fruit
My favorite album after the first four they released, primarily because of songs like "Strong as Samson" , "The Idol" and "Nothing But the Truth". | | 4 | | Procol Harum Procol Harum
The album that started it all, with their classic "A Whiter Shade of Pale", plus the excellent instrumental song "Repent Walpurgis". It probably deserves to be higher, but I love each of my Top Three too much to supplant any of them. | | 3 | | Procol Harum Home
Classic through and through, with sad, creepy songs like "Dead Man's Dream" and "Nothing That I Didn't Know", and the epic "Whaling Stories". And who doesn't love a revenge song like "Still There'll Be More", where the singer threatens to "blacken your Christmas" and "piss on your door"? | | 2 | | Procol Harum Shine On Brightly
Contains their 17-minute-plus masterpiece, "In Held 'Twas in I", plus other such treats as "Quite Rightly So" and the title track. | | 1 | | Procol Harum A Salty Dog
For me, this is Procol at the top of their game. Not only does it contain the superb title track, but it also gives us a lot of variety, with rocky numbers like "The Devil Came from Kansas" and "The Milk of Human Kindness" and piano-based songs like "Wreck of the Hesperus". And "All This and More" is another Procol classic. | |

11.03.16 | I couldn't have learned to love other progressive rock bands like Jethro Tull, Yes and even The Who the same way if I hadn't been exposed to Procol Harum first. | AlexKzillion

Great band. Never heard 3 but now I'm curious. I just wish people knew "In Held Twas in I" > "Whiter Shade of Pale". | Ocean of Noise
