11.02.16 | Neither is an ideal solution so you'll just muddle through whichever route you take. My buddy at work studied archaeology and still goes on digs as a hobby thing but even he realises there's no money in it as a profession...but then he bitches about the work he's doing in his current job too even though the money isn't bad at all. |

11.02.16 | I figure I very well may end up just doing something similar to what I do now for a living. There's decent money in my current profession down the road too, so if it's realistic to hold a job and do digs now and then that'd be great. I wish I could have more information from someone who is an archaeologist but the resources on the internet are surprisingly limited. |

11.02.16 | There are ways to compromise. I've worked most of my life in a profession that doesn't make me rich. I don't have a passion for my job, but I don't hate it either. And because it's not a real driven career, it leaves me time for the things I do have a passion for, like my family and music. You have to find the combo that's right for you. |

11.02.16 | I'm in a job that I don't love, but the money is good and there's plenty of opportunities to move elsewhere and try to find better jobs in business. Plus you can always go back to school. As Diva said it's about balance. I have passions outside of work, a great gf, stuff like that to make the job worth it. |
Spacesh1p
11.02.16 | On the flip side, I don't have a serious career passion like archaeology in your case so the decision was a bit easier for me. I didn't try too hard to find something like that since I knew I could derive satisfaction from many things outside of work. Plus I hesitate to turn passions into work since that doesn't always work out as happily as planned. |

11.03.16 | honestly, unless you have a specific job in mind that requires a specific degree, it doesn't really matter what your major is as long as you're able to market your skills to whatever job it is you want to apply to
I guess what I mean is, why not major in something you like/enjoy taking classes for, then search for jobs that interest you where you can make decent money, I changed my major quite a few times during school and finally settled on one that made me happy and excited to study for, I still have no idea what I want to do with my life but I at least have a degree and can try to be creative with my job search |

11.03.16 | Make money and be conscious. Happiness is old hat. I'd say you don't have to limit yourself to one thing. And college might be great but it's a huge money suck. 11.03.16 | but something that not a lot people will tell you is to run a break even analysis for your degree, since unless you're born into money a degree is probably the biggest investment you'll ever make in your life, and also happens to be the one people take for granted. so why not do the age old investment crunching?
here's a simple one that i just made up on the spot as an example, i'm a little drunk rn so I'm sure theres a mistake somewhere but lets assume:
minimum wage is $10/hr
your degree job pays $15 entry lvl
you'll work 2,000 hrs in a yr
tuition, books, parking passes and inflated dorm cost etc. all add up to $40,000 after you're handed the degree
that you're only able to work 1/4 of the time while in school that you would have if you werent in school (and for computation sake you'll be making 15/hr even tho u dont have the degree, which is generous)
the eq would look like: ($10 * 2,000)(x+3) = -$50,000 + ($15 *2,000)(x)
x = 11
you'd make ur investment back in 11 years... so yeah do something like this to get an idea of your financial situation, there's literally no way this is gonna b close to your situation i pulled those numbers outta thin air lol |

11.04.16 | There's a balance to all things. You won't be rich cause you'll never know where to draw the line, and you'll never be fully happy cause life is a bitch. I have burnt a good chunk of my lifetime and I can tell you my friend, that looking back, I only wish I have done stuff I truly love earlier. Money will come and go no matter what you do. |

11.04.16 | Money makes you happy any idiot can see that. You can buy anything you want, woman, plastic surgery and abs and stuff. I'd love loads of money it's why I buy scratch cards.
People love money because it's amazing. You can go to a Wimpy and order anything and then after you've had a big burger you can have a knickerbocker glory. Can you imagine.
I'd buy a car with eight exhausts because I reckon it'd go well fast and I'd be able to go places really quick. I'd also be able to buy any trainers I wanted and I think if they were expensive they'd make me go really really fast. |

pjquinones747
11.04.16 | "Make enough money to do what makes you happy"
That's the ideal situation. It would take me working where I do for years until I make good money and THEN paying for school as much as I can to avoid loans. Archaeology pays shit so I'd be in a minimum-wage entry level job at 30 (I'm 22) or something unless I get a MA which would take much longer. I understand some people don't get their masters until their 30s but I guess accepting that is just part of me departing from my idealistic outcomes. |
