FlagAsh's October 2016
Listens this month |
| 1 | | The Knife Shaking the Habitual
A very interesting album and probably The Knife's most experimental. A handful of amazing tracks, but I don't really dig the unnecessarily long ambient/drone tracks. 4/5 |
| 2 | | Bon Iver 22, A Million
His worst album yet, imo. He just comes off as somebody trying so hard to be different now. There are decent tracks, and the album is not bad, but it's not very enjoyable either. 3/5 |
| 3 | | Case/Lang/Veirs Case/Lang/Veirs
Excellent folkish tunes by three veteran ladies. Very well written and has a lot of great melodies and harmonies. 4/5 |
| 4 | | The Velvet Underground The Velvet Underground
A more mellow and subtle VU with some of Lou's best lyrics. The tracks feel very balanced. I like this way more than White Light. This will most likely be a 5 in the long run. 4.5/5 |
| 5 | | Lou Reed Berlin
Not what I was expecting after Transformer, but this is really damn good. Less glam rock and more singer/songwriter type stuff. Less playful/sexual and more depressive/bittersweet. 4.5/5 |
| 6 | | Nick Drake Five Leaves Left
Repeated listens of this have really made me appreciate Nick as one of the pioneers of folk. Love stuff like this that's mellow and poetic, but also interesting. 4.5/5 |
| 7 | | The Beach Boys The Smile Sessions
Woo boy, this is a Beach Boys album like no other. A psychedelic turn for the band, with really complex sounds and playful aesthetics, but also melancholic as well. 4.5/5 |
| 8 | | The Feelies Crazy Rhythms
This will be a 5, I know it. A super energetic post-punk album from the early 80s that I've fallen in love with. I think the title of the album fits so well with what you're in store for. 4.5/5 |
| 9 | | Danny Brown Atrocity Exhibition
I really like his manic rapping style and the experimental beats. Will have to check his other stuff. 4/5 |
| 10 | | Joy Division Unknown Pleasures
I'm not sure what happened, but this finally clicked with me. The dark and anxious atmosphere it creates is perfect. 4.5/5 |
| 11 | | Joni Mitchell Ladies of the Canyon
This grew on me hard. The backside is an absolutely gorgeous collection of folk songs. Joni's voice is incredible. Morning Morgantown is the perfect opener. 4.5/5 |
| 12 | | Andrew Bird The Mysterious Production Of Eggs
The highlights on this album are everything. I can't get enough of MX Missles honestly. I've known this album for years, but never really listened to it. Shame. 4/5 |
| 13 | | Kate Bush Lionheart
Doesn't hit as hard as her other stuff, but pretty underrated. She sounds great and all of the tracks are enjoyable. 4/5 |
