| My Favorite 10 B-52's Songs
Took my wife to see one of her favorite bands, The B-52's, and their show The B-52's Halloween Scream tonight for her birthday. Mother Feather opened, and before that, one of our favorite local bands Iridesense played an early show in the lounge downstairs. In honor of my wife, and The B's here are my 10 favorite B-52's songs, with a slight cheat -- I'm NOT including either "Rock Lobster" or "Love Shack" because they've been overplayed so much that I can't hear them with fresh ears anymore. So even though they really belong here, here are my favorite ten B-52's songs, minus "Love Shack" and "Rock Lobster". | | 10 | | The B-52s Cosmic Thing
"Topaz"
Think I've only ever seen them play this one once. | | 9 | | The B-52s Wild Planet
"Party Out of Bounds"
Where's your icebox? They played this one. | | 8 | | The B-52s The B-52's
"52 Girls"
Can you name, name, name, name 'em today? They played this one, too. | | 7 | | The B-52s Wild Planet
"Give Me Back My Man"
I'll give you fish, I'll give you candy ... Sadly, they didn't play this one tonight. | | 6 | | The B-52s Good Stuff
"Is That You Mo-Dean?"
Because I love songs about spacemen, especially when voiced by Fred Schneider. And yes, they played this one. | | 5 | | The B-52s Mesopotamia
"Mesopotamia"
I'll meet you at the third pyramid. They played this one fairly early in the set tonight. | | 4 | | The B-52s Cosmic Thing
"Roam"
Kate and Cindy nailed this one tonight. | | 3 | | The B-52s Cosmic Thing
"Deadbeat Club"
OK, so Kate and Cindy royally screwed this one up tonight, but it's all good. (See what happens when Fred leaves them alone for 2 songs?) It's the first time I've actually seen them perform it in awhile. | | 2 | | The B-52s Wild Planet
"Private Idaho"
Because you're living in your own Private Idaho, underground like a wild potato. They played it tonight. | | 1 | | The B-52s The B-52's
"Planet Claire"
Brings me back to those '50s and '60s sci-fi flicks that used to scare the crap out of me as a kid. They played this as the first song of the encore. | |
Divaman
10.29.16 | And yes, they played "Rock Lobster" as the last song before the encore, and "Love Shack" during the encore as the last song of the night. | zakalwe
10.29.16 | I only know rock lobster, love shack and that Flinstones theme abortion. | someguest
10.29.16 | https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FbV_hi9hAjw | Divaman
10.29.16 | Oof! I forgot all about that Flintstones thing zak. Yeah, that was bad.
Bit of a different take, eh someguest? I'm not familiar with that band. Sounds like they're having fun with it. | someguest
10.29.16 | Not familiar with Botch? Oh man, you're missing out. Check any of their material if you're up for it. | SandwichBubble
10.29.16 | Rock Lobster is so overplayed because it's their best song, production-wise~ But Planet Claire is a pretty damn good 2nd place. Also, I'm glad you're so diverse. My B-52s list would just be the debut and Wild Planet over and over. | Divaman
10.29.16 | No Cosmic Thing? | TwigTW
10.29.16 | I'm not no Limburger! Dance This Mess Around is #1 for me, but 7 is right behind it. | Jethro42
10.29.16 | I probably only know Planet Claire, and probably since it's been released. | Anthracks
10.29.16 | Yesss Planet Claire | Polyethylene
10.29.16 | Planet Claire, Roam and Mesopotamia are where it's at
Saw these guys a few years back in a sports stadium, supported by The Proclaimers fucking rofl | Evatallica
10.29.16 | Roam is so good | Divaman
10.30.16 | They did "Dance This Mess Around" last night Twig. I was most sad to have to leave out "Strobe Light" and "Dirty Back Road". | Lord(e)Po)))ts
10.30.16 | lol k | Divaman
10.30.16 | Oh, and btw, my least favorite B-52's song ever - "Quiche Lorraine" - because for the most part, Fred Schneider s/b a gentle seasoning, not a main course. | ArsMoriendi
10.30.16 | "I only know rock lobster, love shack and that Flinstones theme abortion."
Damn even I know Private Idaho and Roam | Divaman
10.30.16 | For anyone interested, I posted a full review of the show on my blog at at longislandmusicguy.blogspot.com. |
