10.18.16 | do you have a continuation school in your area? if you're behind on credits you can graduate pretty easily and quickly if you do your work, at least that's how the one in my city is. If you're not going to go to college look for a decent job with health benefits, school districts usually offer a lot of different kinds of jobs. |

10.18.16 | stay in school, and all that jazz. Look into trade schools if you don't think college is for you, look through all (ALL) the possible majors at your local-ish colleges to see if anything catches your eye/is a field you can imagine being part of for many years without going nuts and hating your life/would be physically and mentally capable of excelling or succeeding in at an acceptable level. You can always try community college first to get credits and figure out if more schooling is for you, before you decide to jump on the Debt Train to Studenloansville. |

10.18.16 | Here's your motivation: If you drop out you have to work harder to get your GED as opposed to just staying in school for another year and finishing. So it takes longer and you work harder than if you had just done it correctly the first time. |
hal1ax
10.18.16 | that's more like it. dropping out of high school is going to make your life down the road substantially harder. just try and find something to look forward to academically. fucking art, music, wood shop, whatever the fuk |

10.18.16 | If you goal is to be able to do cool shit and bullshit then getting through high school and into a successful career is the only path that takes you there, almost everyone I went to high school with who dropped out now have tougher jobs than I do, make way less money than I do, have less free time than I do, and honestly have less access to vices and drugs than I do, and I don't even partake. In general, if you want to be able to live a fun, engaging life where you get to travel, enjoy the best pleasures the world has to offer and party your ass off, having a great job is the only option really to achieve that life dream. |

10.18.16 | JWT got the knowledge.
High school is free. Take advantage of that. Trade schools are usually a free option while in high school and trades pay well and are always in demand (plumbers make more than I do and it's pretty dope to be able to handle doing your own handiwork - it's stuff you come to appreciate).
If you're not into trades, community college is cheap - if you don't know what you're doing, muck around with anything that catches your attention and do it there on the cheap. Some even offer 4 year degrees.
tbh, I think GEDs are looked down on a bit more than traditional diplomas and you definitely want every advantage you can get in today's job market. |

10.18.16 | What's your overall GPA this year? How many classes are you failing or is it just one? There's multiple things to consider. Don't drop out unless you have absolutely no chance and your mind is already made up. I dropped out junior year and got my G.E.D. the year after. It wasn't too hard at all honestly. Took a few classes and took some tests passed and blammo that was it. Went to college for 6 years after and have a degree. I don't know what your mindset is right now, but people telling you you're fucked if you dropped out is absolutely incorrect. It's entirely up to you at that point and if you get your G.E.D and start looking into things and try your best I'm sure you'll find some success somewhere, but you have to work for it man. |
wham49
10.18.16 | A ged is easy to get up will get you nowhere. In a culture where a college degree is a basic need to get most self sustaining jobs, you will be in trouble to find a decent job. if I were you and want to graduate, talk to your counselor about taking the ITED test, or at least that what it is called in my state. What it is is a test that will get you an actual diploma, without finishing school, so when you come to your senses and mature a bit, at least you would be able to get into a tech school to get an associates degree, that will allow you to earn enough dough to live on, if you drop and get a ged, prepare for a long difficult life |
Minnesota
10.18.16 | thanks for all the advice guys. knowing myself I'll probably stick it out and graduate, but getting insight is always nice |
DarkSideOfLucca
10.18.16 | "people telling you you're fucked if you dropped out is absolutely incorrect."
We're not saying that, we're saying it will be needlessly more difficult and more likely that he will have a much more difficult time. It would be wiser if he could just pull it together now for just a little longer, then he won't have to worry about this shit in the future. |
JWT155
10.18.16 | ^ On top of that, many people who quit school and become successful did so because they had an idea or passion and decided to channel their time towards that than continuing their education. Bill Gates didn't quit school because he was bored and then started Microsoft. Chances are if you're wanting to quit school, specifically high school, and it's just because you're bored, it doesn't interest you, pure laziness, chances are you're a person who will need that high school degree the most, because laziness and just feeling bored is a great way to score you a job as a pizza delivery driver, working in fast food, local gas station, etc and as mentioned earlier, having the ability to have an abundance of free time and money to pursue your passions is the most achievable with a good education and a goo job, something quitting high school in most cases won't get you. |
JWT155
10.18.16 | Again, if your goal in life is to be able to have money, be able to bullshit, travel, afford ridiculous things and party in crazy places, that life is only achieved if you earn yourself a well paying job and that either happens by graduating and doing well in college or working extremely hard to work in a trade or join a union. A majority of the kids I went to school with who quit now either work multiple jobs to make ends meet or they're on welfare and barely get by, that doesn't sound like a life you want for yourself. |
