| Sia Albums Ranked
Sia is one of the biggest singer-songwriters of our time and definitely difficult to overlook. Be it her indie pop/rock albums, her contribution to mainstream pop songwriting or her world-famous synthpop solo career. Every album in this list is recommendable but the top 3 are the true essentials of her solid discography. Let's see where upcoming "We Are Your Children" will be ranked here. By the way her live performances are almost always spectacular and very good, either charming with her live band (older) or theatrical with her supporting dancers (current). Note: Avg. Reviewer scores from Metacritic.com | 6 | | Sia Healing is difficult
Healing is Difficult is already a good debut for her solo career, although it is very experimental and occasionally difficult to listen to. The music ranges from acid jazz and alternative rock to trip hop and differs heavily from its succesors. Nonetheless the record spawned many good songs like the timeless „Drink to Get Drunk“ and „Taken For Granted“ with its trip hop beats and is an obvious improvement over her real first album „OnlySee“, which is excluded from this list. Summing up, it's a good debut that gets overshadowed by her later albums mainly because of the low-quality production and it partly seems unfinished.
Highlights: Drink to Get Drunk, Taken For Granted, Little Man

My rating: 7/10 | 5 | | Sia This Is Acting
This is Acting is so fun to listen to. It contains rejected songs, originally written for other artists, that Sia gave a chance to shine on this record and that's why it doesn't sound like a demo but like a proper full album. While neither Sia nor her audience can fully connect with the songs, the record is full of danceable, catchy tunes and empowering ballads. Although some lyrics on this records are very standard and sometimes even a bit embarassing, that doesn't drag down the album because somehow it's very clear that Sia doesn't take this record seriously and leaves a lot of interpreation to the listener. Even the most embarassing moments are at least funny. Overall, the songs aren't that memorable (except the standout tracks) but they go greatly together to show Sia's songwriting skills and flexibility.
Highlights: Bird Set Free, Alive, Cheap Thrills, Reaper

My rating: 7.5/10 | 4 | | Sia We Are Born
So much honest happiness coming from this record. Catchy vocals and cheering lyrics are mixed with memorable guitar riffs along with danceable instrumentals. The singer seems so confident and satisfied in her own skin that makes a pleasant listen. Big Girl Little Girl is an overlooked song that deserves more attention because of its quirky guitar riff, melodic guitar solo and chilling piano closer.
Highlights: The Fight, You've Changed, Big Girl Little Girl

My rating: 7.7/10 | 3 | | Sia 1000 Forms Of Fear
Despite the over-production, 1000 Forms Of Fear is a very good entry. It manages to mix dark atmosphere with a catchy and danceable sound. Although there are a few standout tracks, each song manages to stand alone brilliantly. Stellar vocal performances as well as dark and profound lyrics help to make this album one of the smartest records released from a mainstream pop artist and a solid work of art. Those unsatisfied with the auto-tuned and polished vocals should check out the live performances that show the true power of the already amazing songs.
Highlights: Chandelier, Elastic Heart, Dressed In Black

My rating: 8/10 | 2 | | Sia Some People Have Real Problems
This is the album, where Sia found her true sound and it points in the right direction for her future. It's childish, depressing, happy, playful, calm and chilling at the same time and every song is really catchy and well written. The live performances of this era suggest that Sia was at her very best that time.
Highlights: Lentil, Day Too Soon, Soon We'll Be Found
Avg. Reviewer Rating: 6.4/10
My rating: 8.5/10 | 1 | | Sia Colour the Small One
This holds a very special place in my heart. Everything is so well placed on this album. The depressing and melancholic atmosphere along with Sia's half-whispered vocals make this album nearly a masterpiece. Although every track has its own style, it works just so well on this album. Its conceptual touch with parts of a story containing a beginning and a happy end play a prominent role for a highly enjoyable experience. Astonishing, chilling and magnificent entry from a very smart career.
Highlights: Rewrite, Where I Belong, Breathe Me

09.17.16 | you should probably cite where you're getting your "Avg Reviewer Rating". Quick google search tells me some are from metacritic and some aren't. | LotusFlower
09.17.16 | this is acting is one of the worst pop albums of the decade but 4-1 are all very good | VinerichX
09.17.16 | @macman76 Thanks, I added that. By the way, every score is from Metacritic. If an album has no Metascore, then I'll read through some reviews or simply just go to the Wikipedia page and decide wether it got favorable, unfavorable or mixed reviews or even acclaim. | Lord(e)Po)))ts
09.17.16 | 5 should be at the bottom due to the album art alone | LotusFlower
09.17.16 | sia has never been able to make a decent album cover tbh | Lord(e)Po)))ts
09.17.16 | 1 is passable but the rest are fucking shit | Sinternet
09.17.16 | i like 1, 2 and 3
i prefer her zero 7 vocals though | Lord(e)Po)))ts
09.17.16 | lmao i had no idea Sia was ever in Zero 7 until literally this moment | Sinternet
09.17.16 | yeah its strange really but she was so good on Simple Things
also looking on wikipedia she has an out-of-print debut album from 97 which is labelled as trip-hop so i might have to take a look at that | LotusFlower
09.17.16 | its not hard to find Sia Fuler (the name of it) on youtube, its been a while since ive heard it but i dont remember there being much trip hop. | Sinternet
09.17.16 | yeah listening rn, it's got a trip-hop kind of feel to it but not strictly trip-hop | Lord(e)Po)))ts
09.17.16 | "yeah its strange really but she was so good on Simple Things"
i love that album but yeah had no idea | VinerichX
09.17.16 | @Sinternet I excluded "OnlySee" from this list because it sounds more like a demo rather than an album. BUT it's also kinda cool :D | Sinternet
09.17.16 | yeah it's not even in the database
i agree it sounds a bit amateurish, the instrumentation is a bit flat and mixed low
i'm on the second track rn and this is actually pretty decent | ryu
09.17.16 | One of the most over rated artists of the decade | Lord(e)Po)))ts
09.17.16 | she literally has 1 album with a higher averge rating than 3.4 on this site in the last decade | VinerichX
09.17.16 | @ryu yeah maybe her new songs are a bit overrated but her live performances and how she presents herself are really cool imo. Depends on your taste. I think her voice is really good and I love her personality. Her pre-Titanium stuff is far from overrated, though. | Sinternet
09.17.16 | So i just finished her debut and it's surprisingly good actually, her vocals are pretty solid throughout but it's lacking a bit of variety instrumentally. Still i'd comfortably say it's her second-best after Colour the Small One. | ryu
09.19.16 | Sia is a poor woman's Bjork, a B-grade Bat for Lashes and the unfortunate cousin of Lorde. | LotusFlower
09.19.16 | None of those made sense. Did you just roll with the first female pop artists who came to mind. | ryu
09.19.16 | Despite all that she's still ocassionally quite good if you consider the sound of air being let out of a helium balloon being quite good then fuck yeah |
