Krvst
09.09.16 | If you think 12 is bad you should try 24 |
Nazzadan
09.09.16 | I've heard like half of these but I have never once heard the term "3rd wave." Does that make me more trve or less. |
tastepolice
09.09.16 | most of this garbage but there's a few standard classics
|
Nazzadan
09.09.16 | Dead as Dreams is probably the strongest thing on this list. I wish the rest of the "third wave" was that good. |
porcupinetheater
09.09.16 | Yeah, third wave isn't really a good descriptor, cause wave's generally designate the time periods and the genre's so diverse now you might as well just say modern black metal |
Nazzadan
09.09.16 | A quick google search seems to imply third wave is recent-ish USBM. So why is Written in Waters on this, it is mid-90's Norwegian.
I'm starting to think this whole third wave tag is a bit silly. No offense to OP, there are some real good albums on this list. |
TheSpirit
09.09.16 | I've never heard the phrase third wave black metal before, and this just seems like a really sporadic list of random, post second wave bands. Good stuff on here though. |
HazelMotes92
09.10.16 | 4 and 5 are two of my favorite bm albums. Need to check more of these later. |
dbizzles
09.10.16 | If I love 4, 5, 26, 32, 39, 49, 53, 55 what else should I listen to on this list? Fucking all of it? |
porcupinetheater
09.10.16 | 46 for sure, at the very least |
dbizzles
09.10.16 | deal |
Maco097
09.10.16 | Most of this albums are way better than than Bathory and some other 2nd wave bm bands. |
worthlessscab
09.10.16 | Good guy Maco hits the bullseye yet again |
Maco097
09.10.16 | But there's also crap here like The Ark Work and The Wound and the Bow |
Maco097
09.10.16 | Ved Buens Ende shouldn't be here. |
zaruyache
09.10.16 | I mean if we're really gonna try to define a definitive "third" wave of bm, I'd probably argue that it would include the general post-2000-ish bm that's more experimental with other genres. |
Nazzadan
09.10.16 | If I had to define 3rd wave I would just say it started with Weakling and includes everything obviously inspired by them.
Have I mentioned I like Weakling? |
sonictheplumber
09.10.16 | Only beherit |
loulou
09.15.16 | You were right about Ved Buens Ende, I take it off. I don't know why so many people hate liturgy, I really enjoy their music. |
ZippaThaRippa
09.15.16 | There is no definitive 3rd wave |
DungeonBoy
09.15.16 | only ZUUL |
zaruyache
09.15.16 | fitting given Dana's fridge is colder than 3rd wave bm |
Egarran
09.15.16 | The easy guide to waves:
80-90: 1.
90-00: 2.
00-10: 3.
10-20: poser crap. |
zaruyache
09.15.16 | poser metal from the perspective of lameo elitists sure but still riffs |
Nazzadan
09.15.16 | Yeah I like a few post-2010 BM bands. Uada riffs hard as fuck |
DungeonBoy
09.15.16 | Sucks for you guys, I like tons of pre and post 2010 BM bands. |
Nazzadan
09.15.16 | Ye bands like Dispellment prove post-2010 new BM bands can still rip |
zaruyache
09.15.16 | The Great Old Ones too. |
Egarran
09.15.16 | It was a joke. A lot of recent bm is great. |
AlkemestRedux
06.21.26 | I just stumbled across this term and I don't think it makes sense at all. I think after the second wave, advances in technology started to fracture any sense of cohesion and everything splintered. Like who would the standard bearers for a third wave be? It's easy to pick a handful of names for first and second waves, but seemingly impossible beyond that. For example, other than being black metal, there's not much linking Mgla to Blut Aus Nord musically but they're both hugely influential. But it is interesting that there was a ton of talk about a third wave back in the day. Might be wrong too but that's just how it seems to me. |
Relinquished
06.21.26 | not enough nerds rallied up to create a distinction for a 4th wave when it counted |
AlkemestRedux
06.21.26 | It's never too late. Now we on to fifth wave and it's all Behemoth. |
Eakflanderyof
06.21.26 | The only thing that could possibly be cohesive enough to be a third wave would be US atmo black. Weakling was influential but I'd say it started with bands like wittr and panopticon and then that whole twilight circle scene was a big thing for a minute |
