Sorceress
Playing the Fillmore in Silver Spring at the end of September. Honestly haven't been floored by what I've heard from the new album yet, but I'm reserving judgment. I've seen these guys once in the past, and they were quite good not just musically (duh), but also in terms of putting on a fairly discography-spanning show, so I'm definitely excited about that. | | 2 |  | The Sword

Not a musician--although he used to be--but seeing Kyle Kinane do stand-up at Ram's Head in early October. He's definitely one of my favorite current comics, and if you haven't already, I sincerely recommend you check out Whiskey Icarus and his newest recorded special, the deceptively and hilariously titled I Liked His Old Stuff Better. | | 4 |  | The Dear Hunter
Act V: Hymns With The Devil In Confessional
Playing the Rock and Roll Hotel in D.C. in early October. Kinda bummed I missed the pre-sale for VIP passes including "Storytime with Casey," since literally half the fun of his shows is his banter and crowd-work between songs. But those passes also (understandably) sold out in less than a day, so oh well. Pumped I'm getting to see the last(ish) act on-stage. | | 5 |  | Eisley

Playing Ram's Head On-Stage in Annapolis in mid-October. My girlfriend likes this band quite a bit, whereas I mainly know them from that iconic piece of cinema known as Monkeybone. Still, they seem pretty fun, and I don't make it out Annapolis-way too often, so it should be a good time. Also, I'm sure there's about an 85% chance of seeing Brendan Frasier there. | | 7 |  | Failure
Fantastic Planet
Playing Baltimore Soundstage in mid-October. Hard maybe on this one. Not because of the band--who I'm admittedly a bit of a latecomer to, having only gotten into them after their comeback album last year--but because it's only a couple days after the show above. Still, it's within walking distance, and I honestly haven't listened to Fantastic Planet (which I believe the band will be playing in full) as much as I should have by now, so it's certainly tempting. | | 8 |  | Touche Amore
Stage Four
Playing the Ottobar in late October. Everything released so far from the new album has been killer, and these guys have long been a bright spot in a sub-genre that rapidly hit what seemed to be its saturation point. Plus, y'know, they could probably play three full albums' worth of songs and still be done in an hour, and it's a weeknight show, so that bodes well for getting to bed at a reasonable time, to boot. | | 9 |  | Tiny Moving Parts

Not to Disappear
Playing Ram's Head Live! in early November. This show's also a little iffy, but only because I'll be "running" a 10k earlier that day (read: alternating between jogging or wheezing--or, best of all, both). Still, I have the tickets, so I'm hoping the dregs of adrenaline and a fleeting sense of accomplishment will be enough to carry me through. Who Will Survive and What Will Be Left of Them?
Playing the Ottobar in late November. Nearing half a dozen times seeing these kids, and I can sincerely say they have yet to disappoint. They haven't even put out new material (a one-off split notwithstanding) since the last time I saw them, and I'm still extremely excited about this show. They do a pretty stellar job of balancing between perennial favorites and throwing in enough oddities and deep cuts to keep things interesting. Plus, you're practically required to drink whiskey throughout their set, and who am I to dispute tradition? | |

08.24.16 | I'm hoping to catch Failure in October as well. I saw them last year right after they released their new album, so the set was a little heavy on the new stuff. Really stoked to hear Fantastic Planet. The only other ones I've seen on the list are Touche Amore and Culture Abuse and both were good live. | MO
