08.07.16 | I read that article the other day, very fun read. Top tier genre tho. |

08.07.16 | "Terrible article that does the genre injustice" How? |
FullOfSounds
08.07.16 | Aside from them calling Deafheaven post metal I don't see the issue. |
RogueNine
08.07.16 | You picked the right Rosetta ;) |
swallowtales
08.07.16 | That article says Agalloch incorporate post-hardcore in their sound which seems questionable at best |
FullOfSounds
08.07.16 | "Such a poor choice of albums and some of them are just completely out of place. For a brief "history" of post-metal it does a staggeringly jagged job of even making any attempt to actually detail how the genre evolved."
I thought the choices we're fine, although they could have included CoL and some others. The detail was fine for a "brief history." |

08.07.16 | the choices were weird and some were irrelevant |

08.07.16 | You probably know more than me, but from what I know the choices were fine. |

08.07.16 | I've always called Deafheaven post-metal/progressive metal. The label 'blackgaze' sounds so silly to me, and Deafheaven has plenty of influences outside of black metal and shoegaze like emo and post-rock. |
CaimanJesus
08.07.16 | They left out Cult of Luna and Rosetta, but managed to put ghost bath in. Great list. |

08.07.16 | "I've always called Deafheaven post-metal/progressive metal"
well, progressive they sure are not. depends on your definition of post-metal but they sure aren't that either imo. more like envy-esque post-rock skramz with touches of shoegaze and more shriek-y vocals |
teamster
08.07.16 | Not mentioning Cult Of Luna or even Rosetta in the article is a mistake |
beefshoes
08.07.16 | @Artuma They are not progressive by the conventional definition which has been conflated with mindless wank, but it's progressive in the sense of genre bending. That's what progressive meant a long time ago anyway. And I guess I just see post-metal as metal that isn't entirely riff based, is build around atmosphere and twists in dynamics, and repetition. Aside from the emphasis on repetition, Deafheaven has a lot of the same features that other post-metal bands have. |
beefshoes
08.07.16 | And yeah, not including Rosetta and COL is silly. Both are top tier along with Russian Circles. |

08.07.16 | "it's progressive in the sense of genre bending"
well, it's not really that either |
