Greatest 90's metal bands

These bands may or not be platinum selling artists but they created some of the best metal records ever.
5Tool

tool idk what to write about them even i dont even know if they qualify to be metal but they are just in a genre of there own, brilliant musicians brilliant compositions and brilliant music thats what tool created, with there use oddest of all time signatures and constant time signature changes throught and oft philosophocial lyrics tool defenitely left a mark on not just metal music but all music in general. too say complexity level of tool is waaaay over 9000.
4Rage Against the Machine

Well metal music is about being angry and loud and making a statement and Ratm is the embodiment of that. They married punk with metal with hip hop and created some of THE MOST political music. They werent just some high school graduates all of them were middle class men highly educated harvard graduates, And they made a statement not just there music but with there real world practices too. with zack de la rochas kick fire rapping and sloganeering and tom morrellos absolute guitar wizardry and effect use with which he created sounds with his guitar ranging from a baby crying , to bombs falling too siren too disk scratching.
3Soundgarden

Talk about Odd time Signatures and even weirder tunings soundgarden be thy name, one of the most genius bands of all time yes you read it right i said all time. Just Because of there angsty lyrical content and association with bands like pearl jam and temple of the dog they were lumped in with the grunge pack , But they were something way above that. Combining the 4 octave vocal range of front man Chris cornell with his iver the top, brilliant song writing and some of the most creative guitar work by kim thayil among with amazing bass work and musical knowledge of bassist Ben shepherd and how can we forget Matt cameron with some of the best drum work too date with pulse pounding beats like the one on jesus christ pose.
Soundgarden created a very sludgy yet melodic sound on its 3rd album badmotorfinger. they added some dream pop and psychedelic influences in there sound. soundgardens tendendcy too experiment and too create unique music is what makes them great.
2Pantera

Amongst all That grunge and punk and nu metal bs came pantera, formerly a glam metal band from the 80s but after the addition of heavy metal badass phil anselmo they changed their sound to more of a groove or thrash metal band, Launching into the mainstream with its major label debut Cowboys From hell spearheaded with those song of the same name , that album was a breakthrough after that they released their magnum opus Vulgar display of power which was a blast of heavy fukin groove metal, pure groove. Armed with the talents of one of the greatest metal guitarists, The late Dimebag Darrel this band reminded us what metal was about, It was about being loud and aggressive as hell music. what pantera did in the 90s was too keep the flag of heavy metal flying high amongst all the mainstream bands that were there then and we all owe a debt too them.
1Helmet

What do you get when you mix riffs with drop tunings with jazz like time signatures? YOU GET HELMET an amazing band whose influence can be found today in almost all of todays metal, to say every band that formed after helmet, every Nu or Alt metal band was ripping off helmet in some way, That drop D drop C groove in 5/4 time , THAT IS HELMET thats what helmet popularized. and not just alt metal they wrote the post metal bible with meantime and betty and not just the music its the aesthetics too they dressed as simple as possible and none of them had those stereotyped metal hair actually there wasnt any thing about them that matched metal stereotypes.
