minty901 07.12.16	people who think the office uk is bad or ricky gervais is bad dont understand how important it is for influencing so much comedy in the 21st century. if you judge the office uk today maybe it seems like just another comedy, but in the context of its time, its absolutely genius and innovative. you can see pieces of david brent in so many comedies and in every day conversations between people of an entire generation. gervaiss influence is very underestimated.

minty901 07.12.16	Meh, whatever, I don't want to get drawn into a dumb argument over it. David Brent is quite obiously one of the best, most important comedy characters ever created. He changed the face of comedy. Fucking revolutionary. A world without Ricky Gervais would be very, very different. Almost every hit comedy film or tv show lifts core elements of comedy that Ricky Gervais basically invented. I don't listen to the Beatles, but I wouldn't be so naive to say that they sucked.

This is especially interesting for forms of entertainment that occurred on the brink of advancements in human rights or awareness for minorities, as well as the fact of something being less unique over time as more imitators are released. Gone Home was a masterpiece, but in 50 years time will people look back on it and think "pfff, this sucks"? Maybe. It can be looked at either way. In terms of judging whether or not you like something, then judge it by today's standard, fine. But in terms of assigning credit or acclaim to something... I think it should be judged based on the context of its time. Gravity is so fucking obvious to everyone, but that doesn't mean Isaac Newton was stupid, does it?

bloc 07.12.16	Over the years I've started to really not like this show anymore. I do still think the first, say, 4 seasons are gold. But afterwards, the quality really starts to dip. Last few seasons just make me cringe for the most part.

He's the such a useless just sort of there employee it fits. Plus that makes his parts that much more worthwhile. He is also pretty much playing himself on the show (his real name is Creed, he was in a band etc)

The original was 100x more awkward, the characters and dialoug were much more believable, and even though Gervais was absolutely cringe-worthy, you're forced to empathise with him and truly feel awful when he gets fucked over (particularly in the last few episodes and Christmas special). The Office seriously comes off as a dumbed down version of the original, and it falls into way too many cliches.

Sowing 07.12.16	I watched on my own accord and to this day it still remains one of my all time favorite sitcoms. But my ranking would have Michael, Jim, Pam, Darryl and Creed all in my top 5, shortly followed by Kevin. But this ranking is still solid, it's just good to know that people still like this show.

I mean, that (besides Lucy Hale's insane hotness) is the only reason I ever watched Pretty Little Liars. But this show stands on its own, never embarrassed to admit I enjoy it.

Don't see how you can't find him likeable from that point, he goes over the line a few times but he's too innocent and unaware to know what he's doing most of the time
