GTA III
Vice City (Never got into this one as much, still a great game) |

07.05.16 | Got San Andreas a couple months ago and played like one mission, need to hop back on it soon. |
Masochist
07.05.16 | San Andreas is the only one I've ever played to the very end, and it was incredible all the way through. Sam Jackson helped. Here's my ranking:
GTA: San Andreas
GTA V
GTA Vice City
GTA
GTA III
GTA IV
GTA II
I'm one of the few who will put GTA III that low, but as cool as it was, Vice City improved on it so much in terms of giving character and a real identity to the setting that that's where I really fell in love with it. And the original GTA was super fun, I don't care what people say.

07.05.16 | GTA IV > GTA V > San Andreas. Unfortunately, those are the only ones I've played through. Now that I think about it, I need to get back to playing some GTA... |

07.06.16 | They're all great games and I've dabbled in them all thanks to the HD collection on PS4, but I'd have to say V is my favorite because it's the one I've played the most. |

07.06.16 | SA > V > III > Vice City > IV
|
Zig
07.06.16 | SA is the best.
Never played V. |
DinosaurJones
07.06.16 | I played the shit out of 3, but going back and playing it now, it isn't as fun to me anymore. They're all still fun, but I think I played IV the most and connected with it the most.
I'd probably go with VI > V > SA > III > Vice City |
Sinternet
07.06.16 | V has the best gameworld, purely because technology allowed it to have so much going on and made it feel a lit more alive, but what makes or breaks a gta game for me is the main characters, and i thought V was one of the worst. Aside from Franklin i really didn't connect with them, especially when compared to Niko and CJ in IV and SA. |
Sinternet
07.06.16 | Man how can you always be so wrong |
StarlessCore
07.06.16 | yeah IV was a massive step in the wrong direction and one of my least favorite rockstar games
San Andreas
Vice City
V

IV |

07.06.16 | San Andreas for me |
JeetJeet
07.06.16 | IV gets so much flack and I never understood why. Sure its no San Andreas or Vice City but the gameplay itself was fun. |
MuhNamesTyler
07.06.16 | San Andreas best story/ campaign
Gta5 online is best hands down tho, I think most people that hate it are butt hurt pussys who dunno how to deal with other players online and let themselves get trolled or are too stupid to figure out how to make money and enjoy the game |

07.06.16 | all the PS2 era games were unfuckwithable but none of the subsequent ones blew me away like III did. still dig the grimy foggy atmosphere and play it in short bursts from time to time |
tectactoe
07.06.16 | Vice City is and always has been my favorite. It was so immersive. It was the only one where I actually KNEW the layout of the map - I didn't even need the GPS circle after a while. I also don't understand the hate for IV, I thought it was a great game even though your cousin Roman is annoying as fk. |
protokute
07.06.16 | Just started playing Vice City.
Any tips for a better experience? |
tectactoe
07.07.16 | Turn trails off. Download a map and try to learn the cities, where they're located relative to each other. It'll make for a better experience. If you're playing on PC, you can find mods to update the graphics, otherwise it'll certainly look dated on a console. |
protokute
07.07.16 | Yeah, I downloaded some stuff to fix some bugs, and to update some of the graphics, but nothing that it would drastically change the feel of the game, and i like it how it is.
The map seems to be really short though. |
tectactoe
07.07.16 | The map is the smallest of the 3D GTA games, but that's part of what I love about it. It's more immersive to me, you can really REALLY get to know the areas of the map, even to the point where you memorize all locations. It's not nearly as impressive as the newer games in terms of content amount or size, but the feel of being on the coast, cruising around this beautiful peninsula... I just love it. |
JeetJeet
07.07.16 | lol I used to know soooo many jump-spots on the Vice City map. Would cruise around driving off ramps and shit all day. |
parksungjoon
07.07.16 | vice city >= san andreas > 3 > 5 >>>>>> 4 |
tectactoe
07.07.16 | Yeah that was the best part. To this day, it's the only GTA game I've ever 100%'d |
Snide
07.07.16 | GTA 4 >>>>>>> All the others
Best open world and best driving physics |
parksungjoon
07.07.16 | thats such a snide thing to say |
Snide
07.07.16 | Well I mean I am Snide
But seriously I have such great memories with GTA 4. |
parksungjoon
07.07.16 | yeah it's easily the worst in the entire franchise though |
tectactoe
07.07.16 | the driving physics in GTA IV were so hard to get used to at first, but once I finally got the hang of them, it was weird going back to VC/SA. the upgraded physics are definitely better. |
parksungjoon
07.07.16 | it's pretty much the only thing that game did better than its predecessors (other than graphical fidelity i guess) while doing everything else *worse* |
Snide
07.07.16 | I could never get into VC / SA, the graphical style (even for the time) just annoyed me. |
Snide
07.07.16 | @Park: Not just the physics were better in GTA 4 (and the graphics), but Niko and Roman had great chemistry, the open world was fun, and the story was great (not as great as GTA 5, but the driving physics are meh in that game) |
parksungjoon
07.07.16 | " but Niko and Roman had great chemistry"
nah, bland and annoying, trying way too hard to be serious, much worse than the interactions between the main character and half the cast in any of the previous games
"the open world was fun"
so was every other gta?
"and the story was great"
nah |
Snide
07.07.16 | "nah, bland and annoying, trying way too hard to be serious, much worse than the interactions between the main character and half the cast in any of the previous games"
I don't know about that, Niko never really seemed try-hard in his serious character, and bar the "HEY COUSIN, WANT TO GO BOWLING" every five seconds Roman was endearing.
"So was every other GTA?"
Other than 5, no, I only enjoyed 4 and 5's open world.
"Nah"
I enjoyed the plot quite a bit. |
tectactoe
07.07.16 | actually the story was really the only think I didn't like about GTA IV. the graphics, physics, and map design were great. the missions were even pretty fun overall and nicely mixed. I just never felt engaged with the characters, AT ALL. very boring, imo. |
Sinternet
07.07.16 | gta 4 had the best story after SA, 5 was just weak and cliche |
Sinternet
07.07.16 | characters were the best thing about 4, Niko is the best main character in the series |
Snide
07.07.16 | GTA 5's story was a bit lacking, but damn I enjoyed the interplay between the three main characters. Shit was hilarious.
Niko is the best main character in the series [2] |
parksungjoon
07.07.16 | "characters were the best thing about 4"
if you are too young to have played the older ones, or simply do not enjoy having fun, yeah definitely |
Snide
07.07.16 | @park: I'm 23, I played the earlier GTA titles before 4 and I just really couldn't get into them. To me they were incredibly unpolished in a way I wasn't down for. |
tectactoe
07.07.16 | idk man. I think Vice City, San Andreas, Ballad of Gay Tony, and GTA:V all had more interesting/engaging/entertaining stories than IV. The Lost & Damned was Okay, I just didn't love the whole "biker" theme behind it (personal choice, I guess). III was weak as your character basically has no identity or much of a backstory (that matters, anyway).
Story wise IMO:
VC > SA > BoGT > V > TLaD = IV > III
shrug. |
Sinternet
07.07.16 | Never dug 3 or VC much tbh, was too yoiung to play them at the time
but i absolutely love SA and it's real close to 4 imo but 4 is where i have the most memories and i will defend it to the death |
parksungjoon
07.07.16 | "but 4 is where i have the most memories and i will defend it to the death"
q.e.d. |
Snide
07.07.16 | Honestly, 4 and 5 are the only GTAs I give a shit about. |
tectactoe
07.07.16 | i remember coming home from school to play vice city while blasting deja entendu in my room. good times. seriously though, VC's story was the best. Tommy Vercetti was a mf'n badass. |
Sinternet
07.07.16 | i'd love to see some remasters of the old gta games, like recreating them in the gta V engine, it would help me enjoy them more |
tectactoe
07.07.16 | ^I've been wanting them to do that for VC ever since X360 first game out, but alas, it was not meant to be. |
Sinternet
07.07.16 | maybe next game in the series they'll go back to vice city, or at least back to the timeline |
Snide
07.07.16 | I'm more hyped for GTA VI and its rumored location of Tokyo tbh |
Sinternet
07.07.16 | ehh im kind of iffy on that
i'd love a tokyo or japan based gta style game, but i wouldnt want it to be a gta game, for me gta is just america and the injokes and references are all american
same as i'd love a london based gta style game |
tectactoe
07.07.16 | they did a London style gta game.
edit: just not in three dimensions. |
Snide
07.07.16 | If they are going to do another American based location; it should be Colorado, for the fantastic scenery, varied environments and such. |
Sinternet
07.07.16 | yeah ik but a 3d one because i cant get into the 2d ones |
Sinternet
07.07.16 | i'd like them to do chicago |
Tunaboy45
07.07.16 | I want them to go to China as long as it isn't too similar to Sleeping Dogs
that rumour involving Ryan Gosling, I want that |
Sinternet
07.07.16 | i just want sleeping dogs 2 tbh |
tectactoe
07.07.16 | I wouldn't mind another coastal/oceanic theme like VC, only bigger. But I also liked how SA had three distinct cities/places separated by vast open roads, wastelands, and highways. It was cool. One, gigantic cityscape pisses me off, tbh. |

07.07.16 | I don't ever recall hearing Raining Blood in Vice City, but it's been a while. |

SpiritCrusher2
07.07.16 | "I don't ever recall hearing Raining Blood in Vice City, but it's been a while."
V Rock man, that radio rocked pretty damn hard. Slayer, Megadeth, Judas Priest, Anthrax, Iron Maiden, Ozzy, and some pretty cool glam shit |
JeetJeet
07.07.16 | They could have a GTA where you could play in America and Tokyo. Just have 2 protagonists with overlapping storylines. One is in Tokyo. The other is in America. Sounds like a doable concept. |
Sinternet
07.07.16 | i feel like that's a really cool concept but it juat wouldn't work in reality, they'd have to really make the links between the two strong and impactful and not just have a lazy hop between places shtick |
swipenet
07.07.16 | Yeah I mean I played V Rock all the time and heard Priest, Ozzy, Maiden, Anthrax, and Megadeth but for whatever reason can't remember Raining Blood. Almost certainly heard it though. |

07.07.16 | i can't believe GTA:V is still 60$ like wtf that game is old as shit. |
Sinternet
07.07.16 | thats probably just the PS4/XB1 versions though which came out later
I got the PC version for £24 on sale a while ago though which is decent |
protokute
07.07.16 | San Andreas is just way more dense and richer in all aspects compared to Vice City, but VC seems to be a very good game on this own, the only thing that annoys me is how you can't aim your gun without shooting, I lose a lot of ammo just trying to hit someone. |
miketunneyiscool123

08.04.16 | V is cool until you beat the game then there's not shit to do. You just have this huge map with nothing to do but drive around and shoot people. All the side missions are boring. |
JeetJeet
08.04.16 | I mean its not like there's an online mode where you can do various missions, play with friends, create crazy race tracks, etc. |

08.04.16 | Story wise: IV, San, Vice, V, III
As a game: V, San, Vice, IV, III.
I'm more of a narrative-based gamer so IV is my favorite overall.
I just read through these and I don't understand how people can thoroughly enjoy V's story. It has some interesting moments and the dialogue and bicker between characters is among the best in the series, but overall the main story just makes you hate all the main characters (besides Franklin) and in the end it's just a rehashed RDR "government is bad" type of story but completely dumbed down through the arrogant and irredeemable characters. |
