06.17.16 | Cause America is the greatest country in the world bro.

06.17.16 | Vinyls in Europe are expensive af, like 25-30€ wtf
But we've got health care which is nice |
Sinternet
06.17.16 | healthcare or vinyl? the eternal question |
DanielNightLewis
06.17.16 | depends on the record to be honest, most of the 12"s I buy are between £10 - £16, it tends to be major label releases and reissue cash-ins that tend to cost more. Which makes perfect sense as they're not in the business of giving you value for money. |
Sinternet
06.17.16 | yeah true, but most LPs tend to be at least £14 which is like $20. I don't think that that's that bad, but i see so many awesome sales in the US, for less than $10 which is less than £7, and damn it would make collecting so much cheaper. |
eddie95
06.17.16 | CDs and vinyls are considered luxury goods in Italy, therefore we pay a hella lotta taxes on them. A new 12" would normally cost about 20-25€, €30+ if it has just been released. |
Sevengill
06.17.16 | some of the smaller labels have the best prices. Halo of Flies is a great one with records around $10 |
DanielNightLewis
06.17.16 | Where do you live Sinternet? Having a decent record store in your area makes a huge difference. Granted, with more niche genres it's going to be a case of biting the bullet and getting fucked on the shipping from the states if you simply *must* have a particular record. At least having a good store nearby means you can pick up most things or they can order in. |
Sinternet
06.17.16 | just commented in the the eu vote thread but I'm about 10 miles out from Brighton so i regularly visit Resident, which is by far the best record shop i've been to in the country
lots of nice secondhand shops too so I guess I can't complain |
DanielNightLewis
06.17.16 | Ape/Cult Classic on North Street is pretty good too, way smaller but friendly and the odd hidden gem. There are some great 2nd hand stores tucked away in the Lanes as well as Rarekind if you're in to electronica and Punker Bunker if you're in to punk sub genres. There is a shop hidden away near The Level which has an amazing selection of most kinds of music if you're prepared to dig through it. I miss EdgeWorld though, I got pg99#s Document 8 there for £7 brand new. |
Sinternet
06.17.16 | yeah i check Cult Classic sometimes but ultimately their small selection means i don't really buy much there.
rarekind is great, they've got a great hip-hop section. have to admit i've never actually been in punker bunker, really should. which shop is that on the level?
i go to wax factor quite a bit as well, usually have some decent stuff knocking about albeit slightly more pricey than some others. Not old enough to remember that edgeworld one though |
DanielNightLewis
06.17.16 | Edgeworld went about 3 years ago, it was tucked away on the upstairs bit of one of the little shops opposite Resident!
I can't remember the name of that other random shop near the Level but if you're near that area, it's worth having a quick search for. It's on one of the roads that leads on to London Road near the top of the Level.
Punker Bunker is great, Buzz reaaaallly knows his stuff so if you're looking for recommendations he'll almost always point you towards something good! |
DanielNightLewis
06.17.16 | Heading North, it's on the road after the one that has the open market on it! |
Sinternet
06.17.16 | i'll have to check out Punker Bunker and that other place this week then sounds great |

06.17.16 | you don't live in Australia, you have no right to complain. |

06.18.16 | "I love how buying records with outrageous shipping prices to Australia is STILL cheaper than actually buying a record inside the country."
You indirectly made it a point. Maybe it's cheaper to ship them in because you don't have the raw resources that make producing vinyl more cost effective. I don't know if it's true or not, just deducing a bit. |
Supercoolguy64
06.18.16 | 10 pounds is like 15 dollars over in the us, which is what most records usually go for at the cheapest over here, at least from the places I've seen.
cheapest LP i've ever seen brand new here is $12 and that was directly from a small indie punk label |
someguest
06.18.16 | "Not to mention different shipping services yield different results."
Absolutely. USPS sucks ass for shipping records. Young God shipped my record on Monday. It's Saturday and it's still not here. Same fucking country. |

06.18.16 | In some brilliant twist of fate I was able to find the new Zhrine LP on amazon so that just saved me a good 20$ on shipping |

08.10.16 | Since we left the EU, the price of vinyl in the UK has risen. A £15 vinyl is now nearer £20. As a collector, this is making life difficult. The free Healthcare is good as fucked now as well, we're about to live through the 80's again |
