Bands I've Seen In The Last Year

These are all the bands I've had the chance to see over the last year after returning to the US from Japan. I tried to put them in order by how enjoyable and talented each band was. While some bands were just fun or had a great pit (Foxy Shazam, Emmure) others had so much talent that my jaw remained open for the entirety of the set (Tera Melos, Protest the Hero). The ones at the top of my list had a good mix of everything that keeps me coming back for more.
1The Black Dahlia Murder

One of my all time favorites since high school. Saw them twice this year. Great band, great show, awesome solos, awesome pit, always fun! If you haven't seen them do yourself a favor and find out when they're playing near you.
2Protest the Hero

Saw them before they released Fortress and wasn't too excited to hear them tbh. I had heard Kezia and while it wasn't bad I only went to see The Acacia Strain. Protest the Hero stole the show and won my heart over just before releasing one of my all time favorite CDs. Incredible and entertaining vocalist, stunning guitar work!
3The Fall of Troy

Long set, wide variety of old and new music, and holyshitballs Thomas is good. After the show they went to a bar across the street and played another show, they were pretty wasted by this point but it was still pretty cool.
4A Life Once Lost

Relentless set, crazy ass pit, giant strobe lights on stage, good times.
5Whitechapel

Kicked the shit out of nearly every band they opened for on the Summer Slaughter Tour. Powerful live performance for such a young band.
6Through the Eyes of the Dead

Love the new singer! Flawless performance, fun pit.
7August Burns Red

Can't wait to see these guys again.
8Aborted

Never could get into these guys, but seeing them live completely changed my perspective. Total Insanity! Wall of death FTW!
9Emmure

STFU I like these guys. The Respect Issue is a bit on the boring side but their first 2 albums are straight made for the pit. Band was fucking amazing live. Only complaint (which is a big one for me) every fan there knew the words and were singing along while they were pummeling everyone around them and you can clearly hear every word he says in the album, but on stage the singer just weant "RAWR RAWR GRRRRR" and then held the mic to the crowd for them to sing the chorus...a bit upsetting. Then he pranced around the stage like a rapper holding his crotch. LOL
10Every Time I Die

One of my all time favorite bands, although their new album turned me off to them a bit. Didn't disappoint live. Shotgunning beers on stage, cracking jokes in between songs, played all their best songs, and just had a lot of fun.
11Tera Melos

This was my first encounter with this band and it was an interesting experience. Like a cross between Hella and Genghis Tron. These guys are nut jobs! The guitarist/keyboardist/vocalist was so animated on stage, like he was in another world. In between songs he wouldnt speak in the mic as he said he didn't like microphones and asked everyone to be quit so he could talk. I found this hilarious. Very talented and creative bunch.
12The Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza

Big fan of these guys in the first place, and they still managed to exceed my expectations on stage. Good shit.
13Despised Icon

I like their older work better but they were still good.
14The Acacia Strain

TBH not as good as I thought they would be, but still a great show. Sun Poison and Skin Cancer was awesome.
15The Faceless

All around good show.
16Cryptopsy

Brootal.
17Beneath the Massacre

Had never even heard of them before the show and they blew me away. Good show, good pit.
18The Bled

Definitely an entertaining show. Another band I've been listening to for years, but they didn't play enough old stuff for me to really get excited about it.
19The Breathing Process

Brand new band that got added to the roster at the last second. Alot of energy but you could tell they weren't too experienced on stage.
20Foxy Shazam

HAHA Got a good laugh out of these guys. Fun show. Between lighting a handful of cigarettes and shoving them in his mouth, hanging upside down from the ceiling while screaming, the keyboardist's excitement, and the band deciding that a song was so good that they wanted to play it again, this show was alot of fun.
21Ion Dissonance

Astounding technicality.
22As Blood Runs Black

Would have been better had their bassist not been in the hospital.
23All that Remains

Really expected more out of these guys. I guess you can only do so much when following Protest the Hero.
24The Dear Hunter

Best band I've seen live that wasn't some form of metal. The whole band sings and they do it well.
253 Inches of Blood

DESTROY THE ORCS, DESTROY THE ORCS! A modern Iron Maiden. Good band, hilarious lyrics.
26Psychroptic

Meh...
27Born of Osirus

Played right after Whitechapel...everyone was still upset that their set was over.
28Veil of Maya

Played in between 2 local bands. Seemed to fit.
29Hate Eternal

Not really my thing...maybe if i had longer hair.
30Vader

Boring...I nearly fell asleep standing up...Think I was just beat after Aborted heh.
31The Human Abstract

Band was pretty kick ass but the singer was horrible...
32Too Pure to Die

Trustkill band...outgrew this stuff years ago.
33Kataklysm

Painful listen, I left...
34From First to Last

Crapola. Everyone left...
