Try Jason Isbell - Southeastern too - classic (imo) alt-country album, musically for the most part it's more folky than it is straight up country (it has some southern rock flavors too in parts) so it should be accessible to someone who's not a huge country fan

also whitey morgan and the 78s, turnpike troubadors, sturgill simpson, corb lund, john denver (mix of country and folk, classic stuff), the handsome family, gillian welch, jamey johnson are all worth checking. and also i'd check some of the greatest hits of like conway twitty, george jones, and george strait even if you think you hate country, those guys are legends. especially jones and strait, but they still might not be quite your thing |
