| Best Gigs I've Been To
As it says. | | 1 | Paul Kelly
A beautiful night of music. He played his latest record in full- Stolen Apples, an album I regard as a modern Aussie classic. They then proceeded to roll out the hits. A fantastic backing band, excellent sound, beautiful theatre (the Regent in Wollongong, NSW, used to be an old cinema). On top of that, Paul signed my Stories from the South booklet onstage. What an experience. | | 2 | Battles
They came, saw and and fucking conquered whilst I just did the first. An electric, inhumane jam that would not let my feet stop dancing for one second. | | 3 | Silverchair
I had been waiting to see this band for around nine or so years before I saw them last year at Across The Great Divide. Whilst Powderfinger were entertaining, Silverchair completely stole the show. A wonderful setlist and excellent showmanship on their behalf made it a truly unforgettable night. This band is my all-time favourite Australian band, and this night was a testament to this statement. | | 4 | The Butterfly Effect
An immense, heartfelt performance. The majesty of this band, whatever their environment, is second to none when they get it right. They had the crowd in the palm of their hands, and they were really nice guys as well. | | 5 | The Presets
Supposed to be the opening act for Little Birdy, but Katy Steele called in sick. The Presets took over with amazing style. Rarely have I enjoyed a performance more- a lot of positive energy and crowd participation. I even had the song "Down Down Down" dedicated to me. | | 6 | Enter Shikari
They entered humbly stage right and proceeded to rip our tiny Australian heads off. The party was brought by a ridiculously energetic, crowdsurfing, shirt-ripping drummer, Ronnie Johns references and, of course, some killer circle pits. Rou was very appreciative of the support- this was the farthest the band had ever been across the world, and we couldn't have been more appreciative of this. | | 7 | Wolfmother
Perhaps it's the recent nostalgia of Myles and Chris leaving the band, but bloody hell this was a great show. A perfect peak inbetween their stardom and superstardom, the band tore up the stage with grit and passion. Such a shame that it's all gone to waste | | 8 | Parkway Drive
Diss them all you like- hell, even I've done it. Nothing compares to a balls-out, body-slamming show like this one, though. | | 9 | Arcade Fire
It's a surreal feeling, that moment when you realise you are part of something really, really big. With 50 thousand people as my witness, I recieved a truly epic performance from Canada's finest. The one-two punch of Keep the Car Running and No Cars Go was absolutely sensational. It was euphoric- and I wasn't even close (this was at the Big Day Out festival). I was so exhausted from the day, but it was more than worth it. | | 10 | The Fall of Troy
A band I had only heard one song of previously (guess which one), I was more than intrigued to catch them at Soundwave. Sure enough, this was a very, very rewarding decision. A wild and rambunctious trio embraced the scorching summer crowd with the utmost of glee. And when THAT song came on...out of SIGHT, my man. Easily one of the highlights of what many deemed to be a mediocre festival, Soundwave 2008. | |

08.08.08 | 10 puts on a fuggin show. awesomeness.
did you catch them with the old bass-er | StreetlightRock
08.08.08 | Nah, Josh, Arcade Fire's BDO gig was supposed to have been way better then their solo show here. I was at the BDO one and really really enjoyed, one the the highlights of the festival. I've seen the Presets like 3 times now, and I still adore watching them play Are You The One, simply 'cause it goes OFF with the crowd, without fail. Battles are pretty epic live too. | RandMcNally
11.24.08 | Seen a few of them, Enter Shikari twice, awesome twice...the Barrowlands gig was one of the best i've been to. Saw Fall of Troy just after Manipulator was released, threading that has to be seen to be believed! Great show! Seen Wolfmother and Arcade Fire to at festivals....yawnnn. |
