I've seen better/I like it, but it's overhyped so fuck them, right? = 3 I like it very much, but there are some songs on it that make me ech = 3.5 This is way good/gonna listen to it a lot = 4 OK this is seriously the best music I've heard in a looooong time = 4.5 It's muh fetish/it's muh NEW fetish = 5

Jots 06.05.16	if 5 is a flawless masterpiece (if you choose to define a 5 as such - some don't, but I think most like to think they do) then 3.5 is still pretty ... ~great. if there's a handful of albums that have been created since music has existed in the 'album' form deserving of 5s in your view, then a 3.5 would be fitting for, like, the top 5 best albums of a given year. I mean everyone rates differently, etc etc etc, but IMO a 3.5 can be justifiably high praise. Tbh I'm a bit generous with 3.5s and 4s but that's mostly me trying to go with the flow of the site I guess. Kinda hard to convince readers reliant on a number on the top of a review page that a "3/5" album is actually worth their time

AngryJohnny 06.05.16	A 3.5 is equivalent to 7/10 and if I'm giving anything that sort of rating it doesn't really scream great to me, very good sure but not exactly great. I wouldn't describe many of my 3.5's as great if a friend asked me about them. Then again they're just words and people can rate how they want, it doesn't matter that much and for some people I'm sure a 3.5 is an album with a lot of replay value while for others it isn't and that's fine. People are obviously free to use the rating system as they see fit

theBoneyKing 06.05.16	I mean there's a difference between great and great if you know what I'm saying. Like I listen to an album, it's enjoyable throughout with a flaw here and there but isn't exactly exceptional stuff, but still I think "yeah this is great stuff" and 3.5 it. But that doesn't mean those albums are truly great. Indeed, the only "great", really exceptional artists (imo) are those who produce 4.5 quality material. But I guess you can either ignore Sputnik's rating descriptions, as people have said, or reorganize your ratings to more accurately reflect what you consider to be great. I know there are people who use both methods. Personally I think the descriptions work well.
