05.10.16 | To follow up on LP's post, here are some individual songs I dig with strings-meets-pop stuff:
Robyn - "Indestructible" from Body Talk (the bridge is very intricately arranged, with the arpeggiated synth and the orchestra playing off of each other)
Beck - "Missing" from Guero and "Dark Star" from The Information (his dad, David Campbell, arranged these; former tune has an Eastern vibe, latter track is spacey and psychedelic, plus harmonica solo!)
Biffy Clyro - "Living Is a Problem Because Everyone Dies" from Puzzle
and "That Golden Rule" from Only Revolutions (these guys have some really nifty strings they bust out on a few tracks here and there across their work; former track is arranged by film composer Graeme Revell, latter track is also by Beck's dad and features an epic climax)
Justin Timberlake - "Pusher Love Girl" and "Blue Ocean Floor" from The 20/20 Experience (so damn smooth and soulful)
Fergie - "Finally" from The Dutchess (really lovely ballad, not something you'd expect from a BEP member)
Kanye West - "RoboCop" from 808's & Heartbreak (can't forget this one, the strings are a replayed sample from an old Patrick Doyle score)
Moby - "Extreme Ways" from 18 (Jason Bourne!!!, check the version from The Bourne Legacy soundtrack for a souped-up version with strings by James Newton Howard)
Steven Wilson - "Postcard" from Grace for Drowning (super Radioheadish at times I feel)
Evanescence - "Good Enough" from The Open Door (another great ballad from another oft-derided artist)
INXS - "Baby Don't Cry" from Welcome to Wherever You Are (ah Michael Hutchence, never forget, this tune was a big hit in Britain, sounds like a precursor to Oasis if I'm honest)
Kishi Bashi - String Quartet Live! (my one full-album recommendation, just came out late last year, some dang cool renditions of tracks from his first two studio efforts)
