05.01.16 | drums sound like crap, so do the guitars |
TheSwagguBear
05.01.16 | Great. It sounds a tiny little bit disjointed but I dig it. The second half is especially good. Production wise the guitars could use some patching up/re-recording. They need just a bit more low end and sound thin. Random question, did you go with D/I and a virtual amp? The drums as well, sound a bit stale and samply but eh, you can't do much about it unless you have a really, really good sample library. Or, y'know, an actual drummer with a good drumset in a good room with good mic placement. But yeah. Nice. |

05.01.16 | I like this better than the first one actually, great track. Mixing could be better but I've heard much worse, and for a user project you've done very well. Good work man. |

05.01.16 | Thanks for listening guys!
Swaggu-honestly I would love to be able to record it all professionally but I can't afford it or the gear to do it myself sadly! I record directly into the PC through a Line 6 Pod XT. Yeah I agree on the drums man, again it's the best I can afford... Which technically is a dodgy download, so nothing!
Scuro-thanks man I appreciate the kind words! That's just it man, it's only a self funded user project done in my spare time and I'm pretty happy with it personally. |

05.01.16 | Good stuff man! As has been mentioned, the mixing could use some tweaking, but I dig the ideas and execution. |
TheSwagguBear
05.01.16 | Yeah shit costs a ton of money sadly. Sucks. But as I said: great song
This is a nice drum set plugin for some purposes if you don't know about it. Was commercial but they now have it up on the site for free:

05.01.16 | Thanks Sitar man, I appreciate that mate!
Thanks again Swaggu and thanks a load for the drum kit rec, I'll definitely check that out before my next album! Honestly I've been making this current one for about 18 months now so I can't be going back in and tweaking anything anymore haha! |

05.02.16 | I'm just gonna bump this one more time because I know a few people who said they were up for listening and might not have seen it yesterday and because I'm a terrible user.
Thanks! |

05.03.16 | This sounds pretty good all things considered. The mixing obviously is work in progress but nice stuff. Is this just a hobby or are you taking it more seriously ? |
Shemson
05.03.16 | Thanks man! I'd love it to be serious but it'll have to be a hobby, I have responsibilities and need to make money sadly so I would never be able to spend enough time on it to be professional unless there was mad internet hype but it's not that good an album lol.
It took me about 18 months on and off to put together the album I'm bringing out now so I doubt I'll ever be prolific and I can never find like minded individuals who I want to work with so I always end up doing it on my own! |
Valkoor952
05.03.16 | Upload this stuff on youtube and other social medias if you haven't. That's how you get attention. You can also earn money on there depending on views etc. You know set a patreon and all that shit. Be active. You never know, people might end up enjoying this more than you think. Keep it up :) |
Shemson
05.03.16 | Thanks man! I set up a Facebook but other than the bandcamp and Soundcloud I shared that's it. Do you get people using YouTube just for music and not videos then? Do you think I'd get views with just audio with the album cover? |
Valkoor952
05.03.16 | Yea man, I mean there have been countless times where I'm just browsing youtube for random music and I stumble upon some great tracks that I otherwise wouldn't have found. The thing about those social medias is that you have to be patient though. I once had a shitty youtube channel and every morning I would wake up hoping I would get like 1000+ views on my videos, but that never happened. Over time however more people started watching the videos. I got bored later on and stopped doing it.
You just gotta try it. That way you can also get a lot more feedback. Just make sure you put a lot of tags in the video, and put a detailed description saying that you made this stuff, put links to facebook, soundcloud and etc. Let people know you care about the music. Interact with whoever comments on the video and so on and so on. Just be patient. |

05.03.16 | Thanks a lot for the advice man! I'll get on that and make a YouTube channel as soon as I have the spare time! |
Beardog
05.05.16 | Mix-wise, I would lower the volume of the cymbals a bit, and for the guitars, I think you can only fix those with a better amp. Ofcourse you can improve them with some more EQ and shizzle but it still wouldn't sound good. I like the music though, vocals aren't that great but my vocals sound like crap too so what can I say... Keep it up! |
Shemson
05.05.16 | Thanks for listening man. I think the main thing I've learned from the first two tracks is that people are pretty keen on my songwriting but my mixing sucks! I'm going to release the rest of the album as it is as I've had it around for so long now I can't be going back in and tweaking it all again but maybe next time I'll get some more help for the mixing process. |
Beardog
05.07.16 | Just lower the cymbals with a decibel or maybe more and boost the bass guitar and it will sound better, with very little effort |
Shemson
05.07.16 | In truth, sadly I can't. I don't have very good equipment for mixing/mastering so I paid a guy to do it for me who has a proper studio with everything you could possibly need. He gave me a less than half price rate because I know him and he's a good guy but he's been working on it so long now he's said that anything else needing changing we would want more money. So that's that really, no more changes possible. |
Beardog
05.07.16 | Do you have the tracks of the instruments laying around? I can change the volume and see what I can do if you want |
Shemson
05.07.16 | Thanks man I really appreciate the offer. Unfortunately I don't have the stems in their final state so I think the album will have to stay as is.
I think what I've learnt from this is that either I should try and download as many plug ins and stuff as possible so I can do it all myself or I should get somebody onboard who actually wants to mix my music instead of somebody a bit overqualified who feels they are doing me a favour. |
Beardog
05.07.16 | It doesn't sound that bad, but getting some knowledge and equipment for mixing and mastering is always good! |
Shemson
05.07.16 | Yeah he did a really good job with the demos he was given its just not perfect and I can see why he wants more pay to spend more time on it as business is business but I just can't afford more! The good thing is that I've gotten some encouragement on my songwriting so I'm keen to write a second album once this is all released. |
