Best of 1969
I'm still trucking along on my fifty years project, but I've been lazy with posting the actual list part of it. 1969 was another fantastic, milestone year for music. Psychedelic Pop breathed its final breaths (until its explosive rebirth in the 2000's), and Hard Rock had taken over. The Beatles were on their last legs, and the music industry needed something new to change the face of music. That something was, of course, Led Zeppelin with their two monster album releases in 1969. Another big re-emergence in 1969 was that of country music. There were tinges of country in a lot of non-country albums such as the Guess Who's Canned Wheat, and even a small dose on Scott Walker's output. 1969 is also famous for the mission statement of Prog-Rock that is In the Court of the Crimson King, which would soon influence hundreds of bands. The most personally significant aspect about 1969 was the launching of David Bowie into stardom with Space Oddity. Overall year rating: 4.5/5 |
