smaugman 04.09.16	On two occations, I have pressed wax further into my ear, building up a sizeable lump. The thing is, it can be that my ear uses some time to adapt because the volume now is higher than it was earlier. However, I also read that in some cases syringing can cause tinnitus or worsen it. Also, using a metal fork or whatever in a specific way can be very damaging. It was not a doctor who did the procedure, rather a nurse. And I have no idea how experienced she was. I'm going to another doctor now and checking what he might say
Keyblade 04.09.16	yea ive fucked myself over a couple of times trying to dig out wax only to push it further. it hurt like hell once, and i had to take painkillers. learned my lesson, and now whenever my shit gets plugged i get someone to drop some oil in there to soften it up. it eventually opens up by itself

iloveyouall 04.09.16	i've never had any experience with tinnitus, but i'm still sad to hear this... i hope that it's only a temporary thing and that it clears up soon enough. listening to white noise when you sleep might help drown it out (and since white noise is all frequencies at equal volume, it almost simulates silence, so sleeping to it is easy)...

Tunaboy45 04.09.16	I think I'm getting the early symptoms if it unfortunately, whenever it's silent I can hear a constant ringing, quite offputting when I've reading at night but getting used to it. My dad has it and he says you get used to it after a while.

smaugman 04.09.16	Im only 17, and my ears have been fine until now. I've never been to a consert or club, and I listen to music with responsible volume. About half the bar is used on iPhone. Never use earbuds.
Tunaboy45 04.09.16	I was at a Ghost show and this guy said to me "he's such a fan, he's listening to them right now" and pointed to a kid wearing the kind of noise cancellers they use on construction sites. Me and my mate couldn't stop laughing for the whole show, the kid just stood there and looked completely disinterested.

They're like gym gloves; they're good for you in every way possible, apart from the fact you probably cant hear the actual music as well, but everyone looks down on it so much so that it's an embarrassment to wear, which is just totally wrong

Tinnitus, insomnia and general discomfort. It's not a bragging right you want to have although in terms of actually engaging with the music, yeah earplugs suck.

p4p 04.09.16	Also pick your album carefully. I'd stay away from records with sharp productions like that Fallujah album or Miguel's debut album (those piercing drums) cuz i know it'll hurt my ears overtime.
Tunaboy45 04.09.16	@Choccy It's a strange situation because in protecting your hearing you can't enjoy the live music and in not protecting it you end up enjoying everything else. I've considered wearing ear plugs before but then decided against it. While we're on the subject of gym gloves, I rarely see anyone wearing them either.

Also, this is a weird thing. like, the last gig I went to with Mad. and his flatmate, me and him were totally still; the crowd were dancing and moving about but we both stood completely still and our friend was like "the sputnik boys dont know how to have fun" but you engage in music differently and not moving around doesn't mean you're bored Calluses aren't too bad; so i don't mind not wearing gloves but the amount of fb vids of people berating others calling them a pussy or whatever for wearing gloves is asinine and idiotic as fuck

I'm sure he was just a unique case and obviously most people with ear plugs will still engage with the music but seeing someone completely bored at a show was... strange

ChoccyPhilly 04.09.16	Tinnitus is one of those things that no one truly knows if there is a cure or something that at least soothes things. It's pretty much down to chance as to whether your cochlear hairs will sort itself out so yeah, hope things work out for you, man
TwigTW 04.09.16	Sorry to hear about your Tinnitus Smaugman. That sucks. I remember how crushed I was when mine first started. Won't deny that tinnitus can be very annoying (especially at first), but my experience is that over time you get used to it. The sound gets lower and less irritating . . . Yours seems to be connected to a specific injury, so maybe when that injury heals the tinnitus will go away too--fingers crossed--good that you are going to see the doctor about it.

Shuyin 04.09.16	Got Tinnitus for something like 7 years, I may actually have had it for longer but it only got serious 7-8 years ago. All I can tell you is that alcohol and caffeine make it worse so you may want to take it easy with those. White noise helps sleeping but it needs to be at the same level of the noise your experiencing not louder or it won't mask the ringing successfully. Living with Tinnitus isn't easy if you don't accept it as part of your life and that your ears do have a problem which means you absolutely must NOT abuse music volumes when listening to your mp3 (for example) or you may end up regretting it

My job doesn't involve being near noisy places or machines, if an ambulance passes by I tend to cover my ears, etc. By doing this my Tinnitus got more quiet and I'd like to keep it that way. Before I forget: Tinnitus gets worse if you're stressed out and/or if you keep focusing on it

anarchistfish 04.09.16	I've had tinnitus for years. Think it was as a result of the intracranial hypertension I had as a kid. It's a fucking pain but you tend to get used to it. Mine isn't so bad and most of the time I forget about it unless I'm in silence. Seems to get worse when you're drunk as well.

Mart49 04.09.16	I got it about 6 months ago from a concert. Wanted to die at first but I'm fine now. I don't even use white noise to sleep. The first few weeks/months are awful and there's really no other way around it. Personal response to stress can make it different for everyone, though. Your situation is different from mine as well, I'm not sure what it means when you get it from a procedure like the one you had. It is possible it will go away, but I would recommend not to wish for it. I mean obviously you're gonna wish it to go away but when you wake up everyday hoping it's gone it will drive you crazy. It just takes time and you will get used to it. Stay away from headphones and wear earplugs to loud events. Anyone who makes fun of earplugs is an idiot. You can hear music at concerts perfectly fine with them in. I would also take a break from music for a while.
Mart49 04.09.16	as far as dealing with it, white noise does help for sleep. Just hang around places with soft background noises too to help forget about it. I started jogging and I think that helped me relax some. The key is to take care of your ears so it doesn't get worse but also just try to keep living a regular life and not let it bother you. It gets better over time trust me. I've read articles where people push it out of their minds and realize one day its gone. You can also get used to it and its like its not even there.
Kman418 04.09.16	who the hell thinks wearing earplugs at shows is embarrassing i see at least 2 or 3 dozen people with them at every show i go to also tbh after a certain volume i enjoy shows more with them in, like its better to have everything slightly muffled and less dynamic than being in physical pain every few seconds cuz its so loud

Ignimbrite 04.09.16	I saw Unearth last week and one of the openers (I think it was Ringworm) was so fucking loud and shittily mixed that I literally drove to the nearest Walgreens and bought earplugs. I don't go to shows enough to already have hearing damage, but one more like that and I'll be risking it. I've ordered some of those earplugs that are supposed to cancel all frequencies equally on Amazon, so that should at least be way better than the shitty foam ones.

I find wiggling the ear usually stops it, and if it's bugging me at night, I listen to music quietly so it drowns out the ringing. If you do develop tinnitus, always bring ear plugs to a concert because the ringing will last extra long

Riviere 04.10.16	I've had it all my life, as dumb as it sounds I just don't think about it. Maybe it's because I'm so used to it and haven't known anything else. Some days it's worse than others and when I'm in a parked car alone it's pretty intense. There's a bunch of books that have been written on methods for tuning it out, I've never read into them but that's probably a good bet if you really can't stand it.

zakalwe 04.11.16	Getting your ear syringed when it's completely blocked is one of the greatest things life has to offer. Had tinnitus for years now, you subconsciously focus on different things until you don't even notice it.
