Best Tracks Of Twenty Zero Eight
No order just yet. |
| 1 | Katy Perry I Kissed a Girl
The album, overall, was rather uninteresting. This song, however, had me completely hooked from the word go. |
| 2 | N.E.R.D. feat. Santogold and Julian Casablancas My Drive Thru
Wow, what a fantastic collaboration. Converse made a really good move in getting Pharrell on top of this one, excellent contributions from each party- especially Santogold. |
| 3 | Santogold Lights Out
Speaking of Santogold, this is by far my favourite track from her self-titled debut. A fantastic hook, a ridiculously catchy beat and the dreamiest harmonies I've heard in a while. |
| 4 | Usher Moving Mountains
A weird entry, I know; but good lord there's a hell of a vocal delivery on this one. Even if it's the same old Timbaland beat, Usher Raymond owns this. |
| 5 | One Day as a Lion Wild International
Seeing RATM in January was an incredible experience, and hearing this track brought back my love and faith in Zach de la Rocha. Funky alternative hip-hop with an anthemic chorus and a killer drummer- top stuff. |
| 6 | R.E.M. Accelerate
It was great to have R.E.M. back, especially on the back of such a good album. This song stands out for me especially, I find the guitar leading the charge over Stipe and Mills' harmony a perfectly executed example of what the band is still capable of when it comes to songwriting. |
| 7 | Atmosphere Guarentees
This is the only song I would listen to for awhile, during a massive obsession with this act. The stark power of the lyrics really comes through with just the guitar backing it. |
| 8 | Coldplay Viva la Vida
This song is absolutely immense. There's nothing more to it, really. |
| 9 | N.E.R.D. Everyone Nose
You've sung along to this song. Drunk or sober, happy or sad, enjoying the song or not, I can guarantee you have had a positive experience with this song. It oozes good vibes and fun, encompassing everything N.E.R.D. are about. |
| 10 | Sigur Ros Ara Batur
Forget Dragonforce- this is 2008's definition of "epic" when it comes to music. |
| 11 | Tokyo Police Club Tessellate
Another bright, electric pop tune from an album that managed to impress greatly, even at under half an hour in length. Don't blink during listening to this song, though- you may miss it. |
| 12 | Nine Inch Nails Discipline
The song rides on an awesome dance-rock beat from Josh Freese, while Reznor desperately pleas for a cure to his addictions. One can only hope this productivity keeps up. |
| 13 | Weezer Heart Songs
You can diss the Red Album all you like, but this is far and away the best song the band have done since Keep Fishin'. A sincere, wonderful exploration of Weezer's musical foundations. |
| 14 | City and Colour Waiting...
A beautiful single to lead into one of the best records of the year. Dallas Green has expanded his sound and vision as a musician, and this really shows here. |
| 15 | Death Cab for Cutie I Will Possess Your Heart
Musical and artistic progression personified. What an amazing song. |
