Friday13th
03.25.16 | These two look great. Both have cool, kinda pastel-ish album art. |
SCREAM!
03.25.16 | Tempted to vote for 1 for the band name alone
Tempted to vote for 2 so SirLord doesn't take it away with his Latin Prog for a second tourney ;) |
SharkTooth
03.25.16 | If I had chosen Fandangos in Space I'd probably be going up against 1 rn lol |
Friday13th
03.25.16 | haha tempting, but you gotta jam them first.
@Sharktooth you know it ;) |
MrSirLordGentleman
03.25.16 | "Tempted to vote for 2 so SirLord doesn't take it away with his Latin Prog for a second tourney ;)"
Oh c'mon that's mean haha. The "oriental tendencies" manosg describes on Jade Warrior actually hype me a lot for the album so I'm really looking forward to it |
MrSirLordGentleman
03.25.16 | Jade Warrior actually DOES sound awesome, seriously Friday why do you always match me up against the toughests ones? haha |
bnelso55
03.25.16 | These both sound great. I have a feeling I'm going to dig both of these and have a hard time voting again. haha |
MrSirLordGentleman
03.25.16 | Ok I jammed both of them and I think I found the divisive point between the two albums:
Locomotora has an extremly sweet feeling, its problem for some, is that it follows the same atmosphere throught the whole album
On the other side, Last Autumn changes its style a lot during the album which at some points is good since it sounds great, but at the same time might be a problem cause the style it uses in other moments just isn't as great |
MrSirLordGentleman
03.25.16 | So I think it depends on if you guys will prefer "a good but repetitive atmosphere" or a one that "varies a lot and that sometimes is great but in other parts just isn't that interesting" |
Jethro42
03.25.16 | The more we move on, the more I can guess who's gonna be matched up with mine. It becomes clearer, but not obvious since my album really differs from them all. |
SCREAM!
03.25.16 | "So I think it depends on if you guys will prefer "a good but repetitive atmosphere" or a one that "varies a lot and that sometimes is great but in other parts just isn't that interesting""
The ever-divisive consistency vs highlights debate. Listening to Blops and liking it so far Sir! |
MrSirLordGentleman
03.25.16 | Glad that if Los Jaivas won't click on you at least these will haha |
SCREAM!
03.25.16 | I've actually been meaning to give that one another go and see if anything has changed since that tourney |
MrSirLordGentleman
03.25.16 | Los Jaivas is a big example of "hey, I definitely see why you might praise this but it is just too difficult for some people to click on this since it is very different" |
Friday13th
03.25.16 | digging how jovial Blops sounds |
Friday13th
03.25.16 | I think I agree with Gentleman's analysis. 2 has some really fine moments, but when it tries the hard rock thing it falls flat. |
AnimalsAsSummit
03.25.16 | Both look intriguing, gonna jam |
Jethro42
03.26.16 | Gentleman sent to my shoutbox couple months ago song ''Tartaleta de Frutilla'', and I can tell that it's my favorite song of this match up. I also dig the Santana's vibes of the title track.
At my first Jade Warrior's spin, it didn't do much to me, but after a 2nd try, it slowly started to grow on me, but songs like ''Joanne'' and ''The Demon Trucker'' are embarassing enough for my taste. I need to give more time to both albums. |
MeatSalad
03.26.16 | Barely had enough time to digest the last round, fuck
Both of these have pretty dope album art |
MrSirLordGentleman
03.26.16 | @Jethro I honestly think the opener and the closer are on the same level as Tartaleta and the t/t |
Jethro42
03.26.16 | It's only my first impression, Gentleman. I will pay a particular attention to the first and last ones the next time. |
zakalwe
03.26.16 | I bloody love Last Autumn's dream. All time fave. |
Sabrutin
03.26.16 | Thought you meant the band for a second. |
Friday13th
03.26.16 | lol you found like a cheesey power metal band, Sabrutin? |
Sabrutin
03.26.16 | Haha they are a very cheesy AOR band, and they keep releasing the same album almost every year! |
MrSirLordGentleman
03.27.16 | Bump! Cause high |
MrSirLordGentleman
03.27.16 | Long live prog bitcheeeeezzzzz p////// |
Jethro42
03.27.16 | After couple of listens each, I still don't know which one to choose. Both have their cons and their pros. |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
03.27.16 | other genres, they exist |
SCREAM!
03.27.16 | But they don't matter |
AnimalsAsSummit
03.27.16 | Yeah Im going with jade warrior for my vote. Really cool album. |
Jethro42
03.27.16 | The first flute notes of the first Blops song (1973) are riminescent of the first flute notes of VDGG's Undercover Man (1975). I guess it's an accident.
I find that Blops are too much centered towards improvisation. There are solos everywhere (sometimes two instruments at a time), and the music can barely breathe.
And I wish that Jane Warrior would have offered more songs like the first one and the last two ones. I kinda lose interest in between. |
Jethro42
03.27.16 | My vote goes to Blops. Tartaleta rules. |
Friday13th
03.27.16 | 1:1 |
Friday13th
03.29.16 | I'm voting Blops for being a fun and consistent album. Jade Warrior is impressive but only for about half the album. I would do away with the first four tracks and "The Demon Trucker."
2:1 |
MrSirLordGentleman
03.29.16 | I'll go with Blops too. Autumn's Dream kinda inconsistent at some small points; but still one of the best in the contest so far for me |
Friday13th
03.29.16 | 3:1
Some tracks on Last Autumn's Dream are great though. Like "Lady of the Lake" really does sound like what Brian Eno would do on Another Green World. |
Friday13th
03.29.16 | Haha you'll never guess what Blops oddly reminds me of...Autobahn.
https://youtu.be/hlHFlrXZmKQ |
MrSirLordGentleman
03.29.16 | Why I haven't checked Kraftwerk yet? I honestly don't have an excuse. Gotta change that |
Friday13th
03.29.16 | Yeah dude, what up with that. I suggest Trans Europe or Man Machine first. |
Jethro42
03.29.16 | I never got into Kraftwerk myself, just heard a track here and there. I only know Jean-Michel Jarre and Tangerine Dream in the genre. I'm listening to Trans Europe atm...Not bad at all. I've heard the t/t more than once, and I dig it very much. |
smaugman
03.29.16 | im voting for jade warrioor cool album art there
blops album was too jammy and sounded the same much of the time |
Friday13th
03.29.16 | ^ true smaugman, I just didn't like anything on Jade Warrior that strayed from the oriental/ambient/psychedelic. I hear the Jade Warrior debut is all like that so I'm gonna have to check it.
3:2 |
Friday13th
03.29.16 | @Jethro Yeah Kraftwerk is one of my favorites. If you dig TEE definitely check the full 20+ minute title track of Autobahn. |
MrSirLordGentleman
03.29.16 | "know Jean-Michel Jarre and Tangerine Dream in the genre."
No one loves Vangelis :[ |
Jethro42
03.29.16 | oops, how did I forget Vangelis!... I don't know him in depth, but I own his best of, and ''Portraits'', another compilation. |
Jethro42
03.29.16 | @Friday, sounds great, thanks! |
MrSirLordGentleman
03.29.16 | What would you call that genre? it isn't "electronic" per se, I think
dunno tbh |
Jethro42
03.29.16 | Personally I've always called it electronic. Prog Archives calls it progressive electronic. The only gripe I have is the dated synthesizer and sequencer sounding and the cheap beat machine all around. I don't know if it's just me. |
Friday13th
03.29.16 | It's all about the novel ideas for me. It does sound dated for sure, but it's the actual date that is impressive. |
MrSirLordGentleman
03.29.16 | watevz
i love it |
Jethro42
03.29.16 | I'm gonna try to rely on your word, Friday ;) |
smaugman
03.29.16 | blade runner rules and so does its soundtrack |
RunOfTheMill
03.29.16 | So is that Jade Warrior album different from the rest of their stuff? I tried their debut a while back and really could not stand it. |
Friday13th
03.29.16 | idk I've never heard another. It's split between hard rock and oriental ambient/new age. |
TwigTW
03.29.16 | Ha ha, the beginning of Blops does sound like "Autobahn" . . . Saw Kraftwerk live a few months ago. They sound just like the albums, but the brilliant thing is their whole show is in three dimensions. You have to wear 3D glasses to 'see' it. When they played "Autobahn", you felt like you were riding down the Autobahn. Sounds cheesy, but it was actually lots of fun. I think the band's sense of humor often gets lost in the translation . . . Anyway, listening to Blops now. Jade Warrior is going to have to be pretty good to beat this. |
Friday13th
03.30.16 | Nice, TWIG! I wanted to go, but I don't know anyone who likes Kraftwerk to go with. It's Kraftwerk, only the best kind of cheese :D |
gagnonov
03.30.16 | mmmmmmmm close call but my vote goes to Jade Warrior |
Friday13th
03.30.16 | 3:3 |
Sabrutin
03.30.16 | Tough round |
SCREAM!
03.30.16 | Blops Blops Blops Blops
Such a fun band name to say. They get my vote |
Friday13th
03.30.16 | 4:3 |
TwigTW
03.30.16 | Wow, listened to Jade Warrior last night and I really disliked it--so much so that I will listen one more time to be fair--maybe I was just in a mood. |
Friday13th
03.30.16 | Listen for the softer songs. The last two songs especially. |
TwigTW
03.30.16 | Ok, will do. |
Friday13th
03.31.16 | Alright guys, let's get jamming. We have a couple days left and only about half the votes. |
MrSirLordGentleman
03.31.16 | yeah what the hell ppl
u missin blops |
Jethro42
03.31.16 | There are much more time allowed to vote for this tourney, so people take their time. |
MrSirLordGentleman
03.31.16 | my albums are always the ones in the threads with less comments in these contests :[ |
Friday13th
03.31.16 | cause they obviously rule with no need to argue ;) |
MrSirLordGentleman
03.31.16 | friday knows how things work |
manosg
03.31.16 | 1 has some very cool guitar licks, great guitar tone and rocks better than 2.
Overall though, I enjoy the atmosphere and the eastern elements on Jade Warrior so much that it's impossible not to vote it.
Vote goes to 2. |
Friday13th
03.31.16 | 4:4 |
smaugman
03.31.16 | there needs to be more people in these threads. it seems it's just the normal gang ; ) |
TwigTW
03.31.16 | So, I listened to Jade Warrior again, and I do like it better now, but I still like Blops better. Can't beat that name, but also (out of these two) it's the album I'll play again in the future. My vote goes to Blops. |
TwigTW
03.31.16 | These last two contests have been very close, but it does make it more exciting! |
tmthycnnlly
03.31.16 | 2 definitely has its moments but most of it bored me while Blops kept things interesting for the most part
Vote goes to 1 |
tmthycnnlly
03.31.16 | Borne on the Solar Wind is still a killer outro |
Friday13th
03.31.16 | 6:4 |
bnelso55
03.31.16 | Really had a hard time choosing this time, but I think my vote will go to 2. The Blops record is a consistently fun listen, it's just a little jammy for my taste. 2 has the highest highs (the atmospheric segments) and lowest lows (most of the vocal passages) for me. I’ve always been partial to Jade Warrior’s post-vocals stage. |
Friday13th
03.31.16 | 6:5 |
smaugman
03.31.16 | agreed, blops was very unstructered |
Onirium
04.01.16 | My vote goes to Jade Warrior. While the album is slightly inconsistent, the Eastern classical music influences were an interesting twist we rarely hear in prog, and it created many very interesting moments which compensate the clumsy moments. Locomotora is a consistently great record which, to me, just lacked personality |
Frippertronics
04.01.16 | Jade Warrior mane |
Jethro42
04.01.16 | @Onirium, here's a track which is a good example of Eastern music in prog;

04.01.16 | Always going to be Jade Warrior. Absolute classic.

04.01.16 | I'm gonna be busy most of tomorrow so I'll be throwing the next one up early. |
RunOfTheMill
04.01.16 | Is it too late to listen and vote? :^[ |
Friday13th
04.01.16 | Not too late! You got till the end of the day unless it goes split. |
Snowdog808
04.01.16 | I vote for Jade Warrior, though I enjoyed both albums a lot. |
MrSirLordGentleman
04.01.16 | It seems like Alturas was my one hit wonder :[ |
SCREAM!
04.01.16 | at least you had a hit :[ |
MrSirLordGentleman
04.01.16 | Hopefully Friday will make a new contest soon
I really enjoy givin unknown recs to people. As long as people get to know them, I don't care if they win or lose |
Friday13th
04.01.16 | 6:9 |
Sabrutin
04.01.16 | Locomotora is great too and it's a great album to leave spinning, but I'm voting for Jade Warrior's, I don't even mind the rockers that much (maybe The Demon Trucker a little bit). |
Friday13th
04.01.16 | 6:10
alright, that's kinda the final nail in the Blops coffin. Jade Warrior is the winner. |
MrSirLordGentleman
04.01.16 | My next review was supposed to be a Supertramp one, but it seems that someone needs to do justice to Locomotora, so... |
SCREAM!
04.01.16 | Supertramp isn't very good anyway ;) |
Sabrutin
04.01.16 | Perdoname padre |
MrSirLordGentleman
04.01.16 | "Supertramp isn't very good anyway ;)"
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Crime of the Century is probs the best album ever m8 |
Jethro42
04.01.16 | Crime of the Century, Crisis, what Crisis, Even in the Quietest Moments and Breakfast in America are all classics by Supertramp.
Is your comment an April fool, SCREAM??? |
MrSirLordGentleman
04.01.16 | If someone attacks Crime of the Century I'll attack harder than JT when someone says they don't like Tull haha |
