Third album in this series or w/e where I check an album I've never heard before then make a list sharing my thoughts and promoting discussion. | 1 | | Sweet Trip Velocity : Design : Comfort
Shoegaze is a genre I've gotten into before, but mostly just with "Loveless", so I have pretty limited experience with it. Glitch/IDM etc. is a genre I have even LESS experience with, so obviously this album is gonna be a little hard to talk about technicality-wise. What I can talk about however, is the way this album makes me feel, which I believe is the most important aspect of music anyway.
So it took me a few listens before I could totally get my head around this album, although I liked a few songs right off the bat. My favorite song on the album is probably Fruitcake and Cookies. The intro is like a distorted mess with a little riff (if you can call it that) doing it's best to chug along through it all until it finally breaks out and takes center stage and its just so beautiful to me for some reason. That probably makes for a pretty decent metaphor of the album as a whole too. | 2 | | Sweet Trip Velocity : Design : Comfort
The contrast between hectic computerized noise and beautiful soft vocals and how the two interact with one another defines this album in my opinion. It feels throughout like there is some kind of struggle where the soft beautiful side is trying to break out of it's more random and hectic counterpart. Maybe I'm totally off-base here, but that's the feel I got from this album, and while not totally my cup-of-tea I'm glad I checked it these last few days.
From where I sit I see this is a solid 4/5, but I can completely understand any shoegaze fans notion that it deserves a 4.5 or even a 5. | 3 | | Queens of the Stone Age Songs for the Deaf
Going with this next, I have been avoiding this band for a while and I'm not really sure why, so fuck it. | |

03.03.16 | great album and interesting hearing someones thoughts who isnt experienced in the genres at all | DoofusWainwright
03.03.16 | Fruitcakes is also my favourite off this. Find the album a little unwieldy is all I'd say, tough start to finish listen imo.
What sort of genre or era would you want to hear something from next? | MotoOnSputnik
03.03.16 | I agree Doofus, but I wasn't sure if that was just the nature of the album or if it was because I wasn't experienced with the genre or maybe if the album was just too long, but it did start to drag after about 3/4 of the way through. | MotoOnSputnik
03.03.16 | As for genre and stuff its not too important, just want to check stuff I haven't heard before. | Mort.
03.03.16 | how much old metalcore have you listened to?
may i reccomend Kiss It Goodbye - Choke? its a 20 min long ep | DoofusWainwright
03.03.16 | I always find it interesting what people make of Oneohtrix Point Never 'Garden of Delete' so try that if you want harshness and a bit of a challenge
If you want something more mellow try Lambchop 'is a woman' that's still equally challenging | hal1ax
03.03.16 | i feel u on the contrast. it's sort of like the cover art. you're sometimes taken from this glitchy robotic miasma to this fluorescent candy realm | Avagantamos
03.03.16 | awesome album, but fruitcake and cookies is actually my least favorite, although i like the first half of it. velocity is my favorite |
