02.26.16 | This list will spark a lot of discussion from me, seeing how much I enjoy (or enjoyed select bands here and there).
Incubus has always been a solid band, but nothing they've made has reached the standard of the SCIENCE MAke Yourself Morning View (even Crow left of the murder) run.
Fall out boy had an alright debut
Weezer became more radio friendly because rivers was scared of putting his full creative output into their work, since pinkerton did awfully at first. Luckily, weezer has returned to this sound with their most recent album, and the next one will do the same.
I am of the impression that the Offspring TRIED on rise and fall, seeing it brought out a more serious and agressive side of their work during a few tracks, but overall theyre not an interesting band anymore.
and i will need another comment to discuss green day. |
Conmaniac
02.26.16 | totally agree with you on 1. like hardcore. i talk with my friends all the time about how Maroon 5 used to be amazing and Songs About Jane is a great album |
ArsMoriendi
02.26.16 | 1 always sucked
2 (can't express my opinion here unless I want half of the website to jump down my throat)
3 meh
4 Okay, I actually agree with this.
5 Pinkerton sucks, The Blue album is pretty okay though
6 gross
7 lol
8 meh
9 Anti-Gravity Love song is great, don't really care for other songs I know from this
10 I love how you compare them to RHCP, like wtf |
ScorchingMerkaba
02.26.16 | Agreed hard on Incubus. I liked a few more albums after SCIENCE but they started to drop off around light grenades IMO |
Source
02.26.16 | Maroon 5 was never good and Alice in Chains don't suck now. |
Conmaniac
02.26.16 | "pinkerton sucks"
wut. |

02.26.16 | How on earth was American idiot not as powerful and influential as Dookie? I like Dookie more, but American Idiot was a mammoth for rock music in the 2000s, bringing political themes into a rock operah integrating political themes with 13 tracks that flow together well, with a couple of epic tracks. And it did MASSIVELY well.
american idiot was also a surprise success for the band. its the result of confused musicians whos mixing tapes were stolen from an already completed album. they would never be in the same creative mindset again, and they had no idea what to do, so they made american idiot, thinking it would go nowhere. now, American idiot was a massive hit, and they didn't know what to follow it up with, so they made another rock operah, since they had no other ideas. 21st century breakdown of course revealed that they DIDN'T have any ideas on it (despite carrying a couple of stellar songs like the title track, american eulogy, east jesus nowhere, and restless heart syndrome). the album fails overall because of it's invisible storyline, massive amounts of filler, songs that feel like wannabe AI tracks to the point that comparisons can be drawn (know your enemy/american idiot, 21 guns/wake me up when september ends, viva la gloria/letterbomb, 21st century breakdown/jesus of suburbia, american eulogy/homecoming). however, it was ambitious, which is a bit respectable. And nothing sounded BAD per say. it just didnt sound inspired, which was a big problem for this once interesting and energetic band. |

02.26.16 | dream theater
and also, in love in death > lies for the liars > s/t for 6 |
onionbubs
02.26.16 | Of course, when 21cb got backlash, they decided to do something that would be both ambitious and safe, which is what the trilogy was. Green Day is still trying to do something original with some impact, yet something that doesnt stray too far out of their comfort zone. And in some ways, they didnt do an awful job, execpt releasing 3 ALBUMS at once was not needed. If they took 4 tracks from each of the trilogy's releases and put it into one album it would be great. The problem is, they tried to record, produce, and write 37 tracks in 3 years, and they werent able to write that many meaningful songs. sure, x kid, dirty rotten bastards, lazy bones, and a handful of other songs were quite good. but there were too many green day songs that sounded as if they were on autopilot and making songs for the sake of having songs out. however, the highlights on all 4 of those albums prove to me that they still have great music in them. they can still pull off something incredible, they just don't know how yet. And i hope with their 2016 album, theyll be able to find it. Green Day is currently still a talented group. They just need to find out how to utilize their skill, because it's still there.

02.26.16 | and nimrod is better than dookie anyway |
ArsMoriendi
02.26.16 | onionbubs w/ the wall of text |
onionbubs
02.26.16 | they wouldnt let me fit it in one comment, so i used 4 :) |
onionbubs
02.26.16 | oh, you do realize that incubus had to change their sound since their bassist left, right? |
ArsMoriendi
02.26.16 | Isn't this guy who said the infamous line "My valentine isn't the only thing that's bleeding. My ears are too after listening to this band." when talking about Loveless? |
onionbubs
02.26.16 | he IS. Just checked one of his lists to see that.
Oh, U2 should be here. |
robotmagician
02.26.16 | Comparing the Rolling Stones to RHCP is absolutely bizarre. Also the stuff you say about Green Day not releasing another powerful/influential album (???) |
DominionMM1
02.26.16 | mastodon man |
Mystletainn
02.26.16 | list is good for a laugh, thanks. |
Sevengill
02.26.16 | dude, This Love and She Will Be Loved were my eighth grade jams. it took me months to realize it was the same band when I heard Moves Like Jagger and their other new songs. |
Relinquished
02.26.16 | mastodon [2] |
RogueNine
02.26.16 | 4 is not even close. |
Sevengill
02.26.16 | I don't want to even talk about Mastodon [3] |
Calc
02.26.16 | the used don't suck, they just aren't as good as they used to be. still good though. |
cagedbutterfly
02.26.16 | Guys I didn't compare the stones to RHCP. I just said that they both have been around for decades. -_- |
cagedbutterfly
02.26.16 | @onionbus wow that's lenghly lol. But come bruh. You know American idiot is no where near as good as dookie
|
ZippaThaRippa
02.26.16 | Most of these bands were never good. We were just young. |
cagedbutterfly
02.26.16 | That may be the case with slipknot. I just kind of grew out of them. |
ZippaThaRippa
02.26.16 | I can still go back to Vol. 3 and enjoy it on occasion but overall it's just a little too cheesy and forced-angry for me. But as a 14 year old I really ate it all up. It was just the sickest thing back in the day. |
SitarHero
02.26.16 | Maroon 5 always sucked. They were just another one-hit wonder poor man's Incubus whiteboy funk band when they came out. They were always sellouts but If anything they got better by not pretending.
Also, Incubus didn't start sucking. They just grew up and matured and surprisingly managed to not suck while doing it. You wanna know what sucking at maturing looks like? Look at Linkin Park's career. |
cagedbutterfly
02.26.16 | Some bands I enjoyed as a kid I enjoy though. Like afi, mcr etc.. |
cagedbutterfly
02.26.16 | @sitarhero not sure what your trying to say. Are you implying that incubus sucks less because they matured? Because I think it's the other way around. |
Tyler.
02.26.16 | no more lists please |
SitarHero
02.26.16 | I'm saying that Incubus doesn't suck. They managed to transition into adulthood without (generally) sucking. The irony of people saying they should've continued being experimental and risky by making records exactly like SCIENCE always makes me laugh.
Then again, I haven't listened to "If Not Now, When?" in its entirety so maybe that particular album isn't up to par, but one bad album does not a sucky band make. |
cagedbutterfly
02.26.16 | I see what you mean. Light grenades wasn't a bad album. I just liked the experimental sound of science though |
cagedbutterfly
02.26.16 | @cheese13 make a better list then |
onionbubs
02.26.16 | i didnt say that ai was better than dookie. i said it was as big, because thats how you worded the description.
plus, ai is still pretty freakin good |
Artuma
02.26.16 | in only two years rise against went from releasing really good music to releasing really bad music
about half of the bands on the list were always shitty |
onionbubs
02.26.16 | a big reason why is because tim mcilrath absolutely destroyed his voice during those great records. the musicality for the most part is the same, but tim just completely lost his vocal power. and since the band in question is rise against, that was a massive problem.
@SitarHero at least LP tried, which automatically makes them more respectable than disturbed and limp bizkit lol. |
onionbubs
02.26.16 | and incubus isnt bad now. theyre just less good. it freakin happens. theyre older now, and no longer have dirk lance, who they wrote a lot of their earlier stuff around.
Muse absolutely should be here |
DinosaurJones
02.26.16 | Uhhhh... Metallica, anyone? |
Artuma
02.26.16 | "a big reason why is because tim mcilrath absolutely destroyed his voice during those great records."
yeah he is the biggest problem with the band now but as he got softer the whole band got softer too |
RVAHC13
02.26.16 | I really don't understand why everyone doesn'tike the new AIC, I mean even back then jerry wrote and sang a good amount of songs, it's really not much different now, I think Stone off their new album was pretty awesome |
onionbubs
02.26.16 | i guess so artuma. I mean, i didnt think the musicianship on appeal to reason wasnt too far off from traditional rise against, but overtime their sound did dull, to match McIlrath's voice better |
Artuma
02.26.16 | "i didnt think the musicianship on appeal to reason wasnt too far off from traditional rise against"
oh come on appeal to reason was so unbelievably polished and safe musically |
Tunaboy45
02.26.16 | 4 and 5 are still good... |
cagedbutterfly
02.26.16 | @Artuma I was actually contemplating putting RA On here. But their last album was pretty good so there is hope for them. |
TheSpirit
02.26.16 | 3's biggest album was Smash . |
cagedbutterfly
02.26.16 | @onionbubs true. Getting rid of their bassists was a big mistake for incubus. Same thing with Weezer when they got rid of Matt Sharp |
cagedbutterfly
02.26.16 | @Around Appeal to reason was A LOT better than Endgame though |
Artuma
02.26.16 | "I was actually contemplating putting RA On here. But their last album was pretty good so there is hope for them."
i'd say it just further proved that the hope is lost for them |
dbizzles
02.26.16 | I agree with pretty much all of this. I owned Songs about Jane and was the biggest Used fan ever for a couple years. I haven't heard Vulnerable, but then again I haven't heard anything since the inexcusably bad Lies for the Liars. Take This to Your Grave buy FOB was pretty good, FUCT was hit or miss. |
dbizzles
02.26.16 | Oh, I also liked the new Alice in Chains album. Sorry 'bout it. |
Storm In A Teacup
02.26.16 | Lol at the list. Generic list to me |
cagedbutterfly
02.26.16 | @thespirit yeah but Americana was their most successful |
rockandmetaljunkie
02.26.16 | entry no 11, Megadeth |
cagedbutterfly
02.26.16 | dbizzles definitely listen to vulnerable. It is the closest to being as good as their first album |
cagedbutterfly
02.26.16 | Was megadeth even good to begin with? |
dbizzles
02.26.16 | I can't do it, man. I don't even like that style of music at all these days. |
Storm In A Teacup
02.26.16 | 1 2 5 6 7 8 and 9 I disagree with |
cagedbutterfly
02.26.16 | Well I disagree with your name. It is impossible to have a storm in a tea cup.. |
onionbubs
02.26.16 | wait, you gave uno a 3.5, and you enjoyed the most recent RA album as much as their older albums? oh boy. i didnt think i could take you any less seriously. well done |
Storm In A Teacup
02.26.16 | A storm in a teacup is a metaphor |
cagedbutterfly
02.26.16 | Well like I said bro, green days last release wasn't that bad.. nowhere near as good as dookie. That's the point I was making. And what's wrong with the last RA album? |
cagedbutterfly
02.26.16 | I don't agree with metaphors.. |
DinosaurJones
02.26.16 | Storm in a Teacup is a pretty decent RHCP track. |
cagedbutterfly
02.26.16 | Who is RHCP? I never heard of this band.. |
onionbubs
02.26.16 | New RA is a lot weaker than old RA, because Tim has become a much weaker vocalist overtime, and the musicianship has dulled because of that.
And I'm probably the biggest fan of Green Day on this webstie, and even I thought the trilogy was weak. |
onionbubs
02.26.16 | red hot chili peppers? you freakin brought them up in your list! |
dbizzles
02.26.16 | Dude, the first 2 Rise Against albums kick so much ass. |
cagedbutterfly
02.26.16 | @onibubs nope, never heard of them.. |
cagedbutterfly
02.26.16 | They must be new. |
onionbubs
02.26.16 | "While other bands like Rush and RHCP have been around for decades"
yup, you're a freakin troll.
plus, they're OLDER than 9 of the 10 listed bands |
cagedbutterfly
02.26.16 | What bands? What list? |
cagedbutterfly
02.26.16 | Where am I? Who am i? |
Gmork89
02.26.16 | Not enough outrage over 4 being on here. |
DominionMM1
02.26.16 | yeah i wouldn't say fallacy in chains sucks but they can't touch the old stuff |
UpwardSpiral
02.26.16 | Kasabian, love their self-titled |
onionbubs
02.26.16 | who is anyone even? |
cagedbutterfly
02.26.16 | I didn't say anything about "fallacy in chains". I'm talking about Alice in Chains. |
barcafan21
02.26.16 | american idiot is the best green day album ~ |
onionbubs
02.26.16 | nimrod all the way dude. |
BenThatsMyJamin
02.27.16 | Anyone heard of this band called Metallica? They're kind of a big deal |
Itwasthatwas
02.27.16 | Alice in chains is still great though
Most of these others were always pretty bad, Incubus excluded |
CaliggyJack
02.27.16 | Old Fall Out Boy sucks compared to the New Fall Out Boy
Their Punk shit was terrible and they're better off as a Hard Rock group now. |
zaruyache
02.27.16 | no one said Opeth yet; I'm surprised. |
Snake.
02.27.16 | dredg? |
cagedbutterfly
02.27.16 | Naw FOB was never good. Maybe they sucked less. But never good |
cagedbutterfly
02.27.16 | Never liked Metallica |
dbizzles
02.27.16 | Dredg only had one stinker, Snake!!!! They will redeem themselves.... I hope.
Zaruyache, while I think at least the last 3 Opeth albums are kind of lame, they don't necessarily suck. |
Closk
02.27.16 | Green Day kicked so much as, Now suck so much balls. |
BenThatsMyJamin
02.28.16 | "Never liked Metallica"
I suggest listening to ride the lightning again, one of the best albums ever |
braspberries
03.01.16 | Bloc Party [10000000] |
cagedbutterfly
03.01.16 | Meh I'll give it a listen. I do like a few of their songs like sandman and one |
