Blackest of the Black Tourney

Same idea as the last BM tourney. You nominate an album with under 20 ratings (more or less, let's keep it kvlt) and give a little description of why you think the album rules. 16 nominations will be accepted and then the matchups begin. If you nominate an album for the tourney make sure you're ready to be in for the long haul and actually listen to each album that gets nominated and vote in the rounds. Even if you don't nominate an album you are free to join in the listening and voting. Questions and nominations can be posted in the comments :)
1Mannveira
Von Er Eitur

This little 17 minute EP is the most venomous thing to come out of Iceland probably ever. The band name means Human Virus and the music sounds like nihilism put to tape.

2Rhinocervs
RH-08 "Untitled 1 & 2"

TheSpirit - A short compilation of Rhinocervs first two releases, RH-08 is an excellent piece of LLN influenced black metal dripping with an aural mysticism that is both awe-inspiring and harrowing at once .

3Martyrium
L.V.X. Occulta

OvDeath - Critically unknown second wave black metal from Germany. This '94 masterpiece was way ahead of its time, with psychedelic riffs and haphazard drumming that wasn't heard of in a time where everyone was dumbing down black metal in an attempt to sound like In the Nightside Eclipse or Transilvanian Hunger. The only comparison I could make would be to the modern black metal masters in NEGATIVE PLANE. You can hear the obvious psychedelic influence in the riffs and atmosphere as well as the clear influence in the drumming style. It's all over the place, often sounds wrong and out of time, but it WORKS:

4Leech [US]
Ten Black Hymns

zaruyache - It's technically Cascadian bm in that it's from Cascadia, but on this demo they play fairly raw bm that sounds pretty amateurish and kind of punky here and there. There are a lot of fun riffs and great melodies on the demo, though, and the crappy sound actually gives it a bit of charm, I think.

5Venereal Baptism
Progenitor of all Abberations

ScuroFantasma - Album obliterates; all the best things about black metal rolled into one. Crazy dissonant solos, tremolo riffage that drips with atmosphere, Satans hard and best of all it's self aware. Hell there's even a track called 'A Freaky European Black Metal Cliché' - but best of all it sounds original without leaving behind its obvious influences. Throbbing bass lines and a hazy-yet-balanced production attest to that. Up there with the best bm from this year and while it may not have the age to prove it, the riffs call back to the days of church-burning Norway.

6Vemod
Venter pa Stormene

Gameofmetal - An atmospheric black metal outfit that would inspire the recently created Fuath, Venter pa stormene is cold but ethereal, at times furious but mixed with droning ambient pieces. Little bit of Paysage in there, but mostly an atmospheric approach all their own.

7Sielunvihollinen
Hautaruhtinas

Nazzadan - Excellent Finnish bm, really captures that early second wave sound excellently. Hautaruhtinas was their 2015 full length, came real close to my AOTY

bandcamp where you can check it: https://sielunvihollinen.bandcamp.com/album/hautaruhtinas

Ἕβελ

Emester - Fantastic dissonant black metal that incorporates the unique with the familiar of the genre to create an exhilarating experience. Also the lyrical content and subject matter of the album is chock full of meticulously researched theological information in regards to various cultures. Basically its what happens if Deathspell Omega did a research paper for a grad school final presentation.

9Sacrocurse
Destroying Chapels

Mystletainn - I found this to be the best release on my recent quick skim through bandcamp. They play a black/death bestial hybrid, unrelenting like good bestial black metal should be, some pretty sweet riffs and enough variety in song structure to keep you engaged, oh and did I mention they do a cover for Bathorys "Total Destruction" ?

10Moonknight
Toplov

Hawks - 40 minute debut album. Very raw and lo-if bm with punk elements mixed in. Similar to bands such as Bone Awl and Malveillance.

11Black Howling
O Sangue e a Terra

Hal1ax - lo-fi, cold, crusty atmospheric depressive black metal from Portugal.

12Clandestine Blaze
Falling Monuments

Fxxkit13 - The one man project of Mikko Aspa, Clandestine Blaze's Falling Monuments is a black metal album that pays homage to the classics while trailblazing its own path though truly epic black metal anthems.

13Branikald
Winterkald

p4p - Fast, cold, lo-fi black metal by Kaldrad, the founder of Blazebirth Hall. This record is a perfect example of what NSBM is all about and not just some bullshit half-assed propaganda. and the music itself act like some sort of sonic paintings that'll give you beautiful vivid images of the motherland.
14Thy Worshiper
Popiol - Introibo ad Altare Dei

AngelofDeath - https://thyworshiper.bandcamp.com/album/popi-introibo-ad-altare-dei
15Nocte Obducta
Nektar - Teil 2: Seen, Flüsse, Tagebücher

yourgodisinferior - A somewhat progressive album that is never pretentious or disjointed. The production is very clean and everything sits well in the mix, which may be off putting for some purists but I really feel it works for them. Riff after riff you are encapsulated in black metal dissonance and evil thematics until they start throwing curve balls. These passages are a nice change of pace and keep you on your toes anticipating the next onslaught of aggression. I chose this album for it's variety and for vocalists Mercels ability to write captivating compositions. A nice refreshing mix of raw black metal, acoustic passages, as well as apparent influences from other genres.

16Wiegedood
De Doden Hebben Het Goed

Choccyphilly - Blisteringly quick and visceral. Though the production is fairly clean, it takes nothing away from this quick album but still one that's easy to get lost in. Might not bring anything new to the table, yet it doesn't matter when what they do offer is done well.
