SCREAM!
02.10.16 | Ideally I'd like a good 16 nominations like the last BM tourney got. Pls include a short description and a link (bandcamp or youtube preferably) where people can hear the album.
Let's do this |
TheSpirit
02.10.16 | Rhinocervs- RH-08
A short compilation of Rhinocervs first two releases, RH-08 is an excellent piece of LLN influenced black metal dripping with an aural mysticism that is both awe-inspiring and harrowing at once .

SCREAM!
02.10.16 | Sweet recs. That Rhinocervs Comp rules. Looking forward to hearing Martyrium |

02.10.16 | Leech [US] - Ten Black Hymns
It's technically Cascadian bm in that it's from Cascadia, but on this demo they play fairly raw bm that sounds pretty amateurish and kind of punky here and there. There are a lot of fun riffs and great melodies on the demo, though, and the crappy sound actually gives it a bit of charm, I think.

ScuroFantasma
02.10.16 | Venereal Baptism - Progenitors of all Abberations
Album obliterates; all the best things about black metal rolled into one. Crazy dissonant solos, tremolo riffage that drips with atmosphere, Satans hard and best of all it's self aware. Hell there's even a track called 'A Freaky European Black Metal Cliché' - but best of all it sounds original without leaving behind its obvious influences. Throbbing bass lines and a hazy-yet-balanced production attest to that. Up there with the best bm from this year and while it may not have the age to prove it, the riffs call back to the days of church-burning Norway.

zaruyache
02.10.16 | that lulzy name alone warrants a listen imo. pumped for that one. |
Gameofmetal
02.10.16 | Vemod - Venter pa stormene
An atmospheric black metal outfit that would inspire the recently created Fuath, Venter pa stormene is cold but ethereal, at times furious but mixed with droning ambient pieces. Little bit of Paysage in there, but mostly an atmospheric approach all their own.

SCREAM!
02.10.16 | That Vemod album is so much better than Fuath though. Fuath bored me to no end.
I must be some kind of wizard, I've already heard 4/6 of the recs so far haha will be an easy tourney for me the way things are going |
Gameofmetal
02.10.16 | yeah it is better for sure, kinda surprised they only have like 8 votes on the album honestly. thought they were more well known |
SCREAM!
02.10.16 | I actually came close to nominating that one but since I've been basically obsessed with the Icelandic scene as of late it seemed appropriate to rep one of those guys |
emester
02.10.16 | ANOTHA ONE
srs tho 2 and 4 probably have this in the bag tbh |
SCREAM!
02.10.16 | hellz yeah m/
You got a nominee for us man? |
emester
02.10.16 | Im skimming through the library right now ;] |
Nazzadan
02.10.16 | Sielunvihollinen - Hautaruhtinas
Excellent Finnish bm, really captures that early second wave sound excellently. Hautaruhtinas was their 2015 full length, came real close to my AOTY
Edit: bandcamp where you can check it: https://sielunvihollinen.bandcamp.com/album/hautaruhtinas |

02.10.16 | Got my pick
Voidcraeft -Ἕβελ : Fantastic dissonant black metal that incorporates the unique with the familiar of the genre to create an exhilarating experience. Also the lyrical content and subject matter of the album is chock full of meticulously researched theological information in regards to various cultures. Basically its what happens if Deathspell Omega did a research paper for a grad school final presentation.

02.10.16 | "Basically its what happens if Deathspell Omega did a research paper for a grad school final presentation."
Wait that isn't what DsO have been doing?? |
SCREAM!
02.10.16 | Also, halfway there m/ |
Mystletainn
02.10.16 | Sacrocurse - Destroying Chapels
I found this to be the best release on my recent quick skim through bandcamp. They play a black/death bestial hybrid, unrelenting like good bestial black metal should be, some pretty sweet riffs and enough variety in song structure to keep you engaged, oh and did I mention they do a cover for Bathorys "Total Destruction" ?

Hawks
02.10.16 | Moonknight - Toplov
40 minute debut album. Very raw and lo-if bm with punk elements mixed in. Similar to bands such as Bone Awl and Malveillance. |
hal1ax
02.10.16 | Black Howling - O Sangue e a Terra
lo-fi, cold, crusty atmospheric depressive black metal from Portugal. |
zaruyache
02.10.16 | Moonknight's pretty rad. Vemod too, tho with how short their demo was the amount of ambient seemed unnecessary (or just disappointing bc I wanted more RIFFZ). |
dbizzles
02.10.16 | BOOKMARKED.
I'm not trve enough to nominate shit, but I'll gladly reap the benefits. |
TheSpirit
02.10.16 | Moonknight is cool for sure. I have one of the EPs (or maybe it's a demo) and it's solid blackened punk/thrash.
Also, definitely looking forward to this. Can't wait to listen to what I haven't heard already. |
SCREAM!
02.10.16 | Same. Quite a few I haven't heard now and everything sounds interesting.
Still a few more spots to fill and we can begin! |
emester
02.10.16 | "Wait that isn't what DsO have been doing??"
I guess so, but it explores more theological territory than Deathspell's Transcendental Satanism concepts
|
SCREAM!
02.10.16 | Bump
Only a few more to go guys |
Hawks
02.10.16 | Yeah this is gonna be awesome. 4 and 5 are the only ones I've heard other than the one I nominated of course. |
Gameofmetal
02.10.16 | so why do another black metal tourney anyway instead of doing like death metal or something |
Hawks
02.10.16 | Bro don't question the bm. |

02.10.16 | Because BM>DM |

Nazzadan
02.10.16 | A DM one would be fun too, though.
I am looking forward to listening to all of this, I've only heard my rec. |

02.10.16 | Pretty astounded that no one brought up Sinmara yet :/
O wait |
SCREAM!
02.10.16 | Because BM>DM [3]
And damn, I assumed Sinmara was getting pretty well known around here but holy crap 18 ratings only. I almost feel like changing my nominee now |

02.10.16 | Come on guys, lets get an even 12 at least and then imma get this party started |
Fxxkit13
02.10.16 | Clandestine Blaze - Falling Monuments
The one man project of Mikko Aspa, Clandestine Blaze's Falling Monuments is a black metal album that pays homage to the classics while trailblazing its own path though truly epic black metal anthems. |
Mystletainn
02.10.16 | Yeaah let's get this party started
pretty excited to hear Martyrium since Negative Plane is the best modern day BM band. |
hal1ax
02.10.16 | i like cultes more than negative plane but ya they're pree awesome |
Mystletainn
02.10.16 | I can't get over Stained Glass |

02.11.16 | Branikald - Winterkald
Fast, cold, lo-fi black metal by Kaldrad, the founder of Blazebirth Hall. This record is a perfect example of what NSBM is all about and not just some bullshit half-assed propaganda. and the music itself act like some sort of sonic paintings that'll give you beautiful vivid images of the motherland. |
SCREAM!
02.11.16 | We've got an even number of entries now so if I get another nomination I'll add Branikald in along with it. Great rec though so I kind of hope we get some more nominations to fill this up |
L4titudes
02.11.16 | Damn!! Too late to join? |
SCREAM!
02.11.16 | Nah man! I was hoping to get to 16 entries so feel free to add to it |
L4titudes
02.11.16 | Yeah this is tougher than I thought. I'm torn between like 5 albums. |
L4titudes
02.11.16 | Ok I'm between Nocte Obducta Nektar - Teil 2: Seen, Flüsse, Tagebücher and Spite Extreme Wing - Vltra |
AngelofDeath
02.11.16 | Thy Worshiper - Popiol - Introibo ad Altare Dei
Because I goddamn said so. |
SCREAM!
02.11.16 | "Ok I'm between Nocte Obducta Nektar - Teil 2: Seen, Flüsse, Tagebücher and Spite Extreme Wing - Vltra"
Either you pick one or imma eeny, miny mo that shit |
L4titudes
02.11.16 | I'm going with Nocte Obducta Nektar - Teil 2: Seen, Flüsse, Tagebücher
A somewhat progressive album that is never pretentious or disjointed. The production is very clean and everything sits well in the mix, which may be off putting for some purists but I really feel it works for them. Riff after riff you are encapsulated in black metal dissonance and evil thematics until they start throwing curve balls. These passages are a nice change of pace and keep you on your toes anticipating the next onslaught of aggression. I chose this album for it's variety and for vocalists Mercels ability to write captivating compositions. A nice refreshing mix of raw black metal, acoustic passages, as well as apparent influences from other genres.

For all you audiophiles, the album is also on spotify.

02.11.16 | Still one spot left if you want to get in on this man m/ |

02.11.16 | 7 looks just the right album for me, I'll check it soon .Since we have a quite parallel taste I assume it will be great. |
zaruyache
02.11.16 | wow Sielunvihollinen riffs and grooves. m/ |
ChoccyPhilly
02.11.16 | Might as well chip in with the last album though I'm not sure if I'll have to fully participate:
Wiegedood - De Doden Hebben Het Goeddig
Blisteringly quick and visceral. Though the production is fairly clean, it takes nothing away from this quick album but still one that's easy to get lost in. Might not bring anything new to the table, yet it doesn't matter when what they do offer is done well.

Sevengill
02.11.16 | damn, this just eliminates Rhinocervs best albums.
how about Nastrond - Toteslaut? It's a grimy, hard-hitting cult classic from the end of the second wave.

02.11.16 | 15 rules, great that more ppl are gonna hear it |
