Top 10 Guitar Solos + Honorable Mention
My top 10 guitar solos ever! A few surprises in here as well as some of the classic songs. In no particular order. |
1 | Ozzy Osbourne Mr. Crowley
Randy Rhoads was taken from us way too soon, the solos on this song are of epic proportion! |
2 | Yngwie Malmsteen Black Star
I first heard of him playing for Steeler and I immediately knew he was destined for stardom. Although at the later stages of his career I grew a bit tired of his stuff, this song for me was an instant classic. |
3 | Rainbow Stargazer
What can I say, epic guitar solo by Mr. Blackmore. |
4 | Pink Floyd Comfortably Numb
One of my top 10 songs and solos ever! David Gilmour's live rendition of this song is astonishing. |
5 | Joe Satriani The Forgotten Part 2
Satch has so many great songs but this one might be a bit of a surprise. Just love the tone on his guitar! |
6 | Black Sabbath Lonely Is The Word
Tony Iommi is one of my top 5 guitarists ever. The riff master showcase some amazing lead work on this song. Easily my favorite solo by him! |
7 | Michael Hedges Ritual Dance
Another talented player cut down way to early. How many of you even know this guy? The acoustic harp guitar and tapping technique is simply amazing despite been categorized as a New Age musician. |
8 | The Beatles While My Guitar Gently Weeps
Yes folks, just listen to this solo sends goosebumps up and down my body not to mention a few tears! |
9 | Dream Theater Metropolis - Part I - The Miracle and The Sleeper
When this album came out (I didn't know about When Dream and Day Unite at the time) I was floored! I think I had this CD playing over and over for months and still never get tired of it. Petrucci's solo(s) are beyond fantastic! |
10 | Steve Vai For The Love of God
How can you not have a top 10 guitar solo list without Steve Vai? This is a mystical, enchanting and simply divine masterpiece. |
11 | Marillion Easter
Honorable mention: Marillion's - Steven Rothery. I admit, I am a huge Marillion fan both wit Hogarth and Fish on vocals. Easter might not be the most technically involved guitar solo but the notes just flow so well together. |
