Conman's 2015 AOTY
Happy New Year Sput. Here's my top 20 albums of 2015 hope you enjoy :D |
20 | | Speak Low If You Speak Love Everything But What You Need
3.15/5
Cool smooth emo music from the bassist of a pop punk band that I'm not even that big a fan of. Knots is a killer song but the album runs a bit long. |
19 | | Olde Pine The Jawns
3.17/5
Cool emo revival music that quietly crept onto my list. Most of the songs are pretty short and enjoyable. No standout tracks but overall the album is solid. |
18 | | The Wonder Years No Closer to Heaven
3.18/5
I enjoyed Greatest Generation a lot more than this but the first couple tracks on this album are killer. Second half drags a lot however and pushes this album down my list a bit. |
17 | | Beach Slang The Things We Do to Find People Who Feel
3.22/5
Cool release from a band that I had previously never heard of. The album is a bit same-y but once you find your favorite tracks they are able to stick out pretty well from the rest of the album. |
16 | | Runaway Brother Mother
3.38/5
Emo revival album that has wonderfully developed and full sounding tracks. Album is a bit long and can drag a bit at times but overall a very solid release from a new band in the scene. |
15 | | Hop Along Painted Shut
3.41/5
I actually liked the rawness of Get Disowned a bit more than this album but Powerful Man is such a killer track. The other standout tracks are great as well and save this album from the lack of rawness found on Get Disowned. |
14 | | Turnover Peripheral Vision
3/62/5
Cool dreamy pop punk influenced emo. Really great album to put on and just space out to and study to. Instrumentals aren't that interesting but lyrics are great and the overall mood of the album is cool. |
13 | | Sufjan Stevens Carrie and Lowell
3.66/5
Really sad album that can actually be difficult to listen to because of how heartbreaking it is. This is actually my first Sufjan album and I will definitely be checking out Illinoise and the rest of his discography. |
12 | | The Front Bottoms Back On Top
3.68/5
This album grew on me quite a bit. The standout tracks really shine through on this album like Plastic Flowers, West Virginia, and Historic Cemeteries. The singles I'm really not a fan of and are too poppy for me. Album is mostly hit or miss but I surprisingly found more hits than misses. |
11 | | ASAP Rocky At.Long.Last.A$AP
3.75/5
Really fun rap album. So many good pregaming songs like Lord Pretty Flacko Jodye 2, Excuse Me, and Canal St. Overall a really enjoyable album with really no terrible rap/dream rap tracks. |
10 | | Sorority Noise Joy, Departed
3.82/5
Loved Forgettable and this one is a much more mature release from the band. Some really killer tracks and the album really never loses steam. Lyrics can be a bit cringey at times but there are also some songs that have fantastic lyrics. |
9 | | Silversun Pickups Better Nature
3.89/5
Another album that grew on me a lot. I still think this is their worst release since Pikul but there are some really interesting tracks on here. The opener is killer, Latchkey Kids is killer, and Nightlight is a killer throwback fuzzy track. Missing the fuzz/shoegaze influence on this album but the new direction they are taking I actually don't mind. |
8 | | Patrick Watson Love Songs for Robots
3.96/5
Beautifully composed album from an artist that has been releasing consistent indie music since 2006. Not as piano driven as the rest of his work but the tracks that take chances really shine through. Songs like Good Morning Mr. Wolf, Bollywood, and Places You Will Go are all standouts. Highly recommend to anyone looking for atmospheric indie music. |
7 | | Dogs On Acid Dogs On Acid
4.03/5
Really cool emo revival release from ex-members of Algernon Cadwallader and Snowing. Really catchy, fun stuff. Standout tracks are 9 Times, Flushed, and Make it Easy. Really no filler tracks on here. |
6 | | Marietta As It Were
4.19/5
RIP ):
But seriously this is an awesome emo revival band. The album itself is amazing. Twinkly guitars, sing-alongy group vocals, interesting song structures, and awesome breakdowns. The only issue with this album is that the production really lacks and it isn't as great as their killer first release, Summer Death. |
5 | | Jeff Rosenstock We Cool?
4.23/5
Didn't think I would like this album as much as I did. Really fun jammy songs on here that flows fantastically well. Seeing him perform live was also a treat this year. Lyrics aren't too profound but I really enjoy the honesty and pain Jeff is putting onto this album. |
4 | | Bay Faction Bay Faction
4.38/5
This is a genre I have never heard before but I love. Emo blues? Really? Yes really. These songs are catchy and emo influenced but the smoothness of the bass and the vibe of all these tracks are refreshing to the scene. Lyrics are pretty upfront and honest but I really enjoy them. The "whoa-oh-ohs" are present in almost every song but the album doesn't run too long so it doesn't become annoying. Overall killer album and I'm excited to see what else these guys make in the future. |
3 | | JANK Awkward Pop Songs
4.48/5
Wow these guys are fun to listen to. Every song on here that isn't a interlude track is fantastic. The guitar work is catchy yet intense, and the vocals are surprisingly refined for an emo album. This is an album you can just jam in your car and it'll always be a fun time. The interludes can get annoying (there are 3) but I think they're pretty funny. Also the lyrics are far from serious but they don't come off as parody-ish. Overall these guys are just having fun and it's fun to listen to this album because of it. |
2 | | Foxing Dealer
4.66/5
Really fantastic emotional sophomore release from one of my favorite bands in the emo scene. I wrote a review on this so there's not much else I wanna say on here that I haven't already said. Overall a much more mature release from a band I look up to a lot. |
1 | | Kendrick Lamar To Pimp a Butterfly
4.72/5
I know, I know and obvious choice for my number one but honestly this album gave me chills. The message of this album is really inspiring and eye opening. Kendrick's verses are killer and the production is fantastic. Barely any songs I don't like on an album that is pretty long. I truly believe that in 10-15 years from now, people will be looking at this album like we look at Illmatic today. |
