Everything 2015

Here's some end of the year shit yo
45Boris
Warpath

Saw they released a couple other this year but this wasn't good.
44Periphery
Juggernaut: Alpha

Am I out of touch? No, it the children who are wrong.
43Coheed and Cambria
The Color Before The Sun

Reflecting on when these guys used to blow me away
42Silversun Pickups
Better Nature

Another band that used to floor me, not bad but doesn't hit home
41Sunn O)))
Kannon

Ehh, it booms and drones and does its job
40Turnover
Peripheral Vision

Probably should have spent more time with this one with the praise it has gotten but never was interested enough to come back to it.
39Children of Bodom
I Worship Chaos

Better than anything they've done in a while but the formula has grown tired
38David Gilmour
Rattle That Lock

I'll always listen to Gilmour playing guitar but this is one that is lacking in anything original.
37Wilco
Star Wars

Has a few stellar tunes but is bogged down with filler
36Modest Mouse
Strangers to Ourselves

Not a highlight of their career but still a worth a listen
35Enslaved
In Times

I've tried really hard to like these guys, they seemingly have everything I enjoy but for some reason it doesn't click the way I'd hope it would. I can recognize this album is incredible but I wish it floored me. Possibly the case of getting into a band that's super hyped you're hyped to hear it and your expectations are so high they can't be attained.
34Between the Buried and Me
Coma Ecliptic

Good prog but loses the metal. Falling down the Opeth path they are.
33Calexico
Edge Of The Sun

Dude it's totally decent
32Mount Eerie
Sauna

Great warm, lo-fi, droney, acoustic shit
31The Decemberists
What A Terrible World, What A Beautiful World

Punished for being their weakest in an amazing catalog but still a great Decemberists album.
30The Sword
High Country

Guys tone down the riffs and mess around with some more accessible tendencies. I actually like that they decided not to make the same stoner metal album again but this isn't near what they're capable of.
29Motorhead
Bad Magic

You know what this is and it's good
28Buckethead
Project Little Man

Hear my fair share of the Pike series this year and this one is the best in my opinion. For a dude with hundreds of albums to his name, this is one that is worth actually listening to.
27Arcane
Known/Learned

Excellent prog/metal/rock
26mewithoutYou
Pale Horses

A worthy addition to their discography
25My Morning Jacket
The Waterfall

A good step up from their last couple efforts. These guys have found their niche
24High on Fire
Luminiferous

Stoner doom riff fest
23Fightstar
Behind the Devil's Back

Never heard of these guys before but they put together a surprisingly good alternative record
22Hills
Frid

Psychedelic drone music that takes you to your happy place
21Jeff Rosenstock
We Cool?

Not BTMI! but you know you're getting the goods with this guy
20Cradle of Filth
Hammer of the Witches

Super surprised with this one. Never was a CoF fan but this is their best that I've heard
19Cattle Decapitation
The Anthropocene Extinction

I enjoy death metal but what I'd heard from these guys never really did it for me but on TAE they manage to balance the grind nature of the music with perhaps more accessible death metal traits (if that's a thing)
18Slayer
Repentless

Was skeptical with the new lineup but this is Slayer being as Slayer as Slayer can be.
17Beach House
Depression Cherry

Warm shoegaze pop happy sleepy stuff. It's nice
16Godspeed You! Black Emperor
'Asunder, Sweet and Other Distress'

4th best release of theirs
15Scale the Summit
V

Widdly with the best of em
14The Dear Hunter
Act IV: Rebirth in Reprise

Great album that I would probably rate way higher if I knew more about the concept
13Night Demon
Curse of the Damned

Diamond Head worship and it fucking rocks
12Steve Von Till
A Life Unto Itself

Beautiful folky/post-rock stuff from one of the key members of Neurosis
11Panopticon
Autumn Eternal

Second best after Collapse in my opinion
10Akhlys
The Dreaming I

Unrelenting darkness
9Kendrick Lamar
To Pimp a Butterfly

Pretty particular with the hip-hop I enjoy and this just shits on everything I've heard since My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.
8Galar
De Gjenlevende

Early Ulver worship and pulled of correctly
7Deafheaven
New Bermuda

Love this way more than Sunbather I got to be honest. The riffs are more a focal point than the atmosphere and there are even some stellar guitar solos thrown in there.
6Sufjan Stevens
Carrie and Lowell

Really soulful and you can sense the honesty in what is being told on this one. Really personal and great acoustic music with the perfect balance of flourishes
5Midnight Odyssey
Shards of Silver Fade

I love spacey atmospheric black metal and that's what this is. On part with his previous output, this takes me to a cold dark place that is surprisingly comforting.
4Steven Wilson
Hand. Cannot. Erase.

I'm starting to think Steven Wilson is a wizard because he's never released something I didn't like. Going away from his previous couple solo ouputs which had a pretty obvious 70's prog salute to them, this is written much more for the songs than as musical exercises. It's got a great concept and all of the musicians involved perform superbly.
3The Wonder Years
No Closer to Heaven

They still are pop-punking their way through life but there is certainly a tinge of maturity here. It may remind one of that moment when you realize that there is more to life than the scene you identify with or how you feel the world has shit on you and you alone. No Closer to Heaven is an exercise of growing up in all it's painful splendor.
2Iron Maiden
The Book of Souls

It's unfuckingbelievable that Maiden is capable of an album like this at their age. Double album, 10+ minute songs, everything you love about Maiden but still sounds fresh. Some sort of deal with devil was made I'm sure of it.
1Titus Andronicus
The Most Lamentable Tragedy

The only album that floored me this year. A 29 song punk opera, TMLT showcases all the best aspect of this band. It's loud, it's pissed off, it's angry, it's introverted, and it's pulled off masterfully. Once in a while an album comes along that you will hear years later and you will remember where you were in life when you heard it. Zen Arcade meets Springsteen with the most glorious result. I may forget most of the albums on this list, in fact I'm sure I will, but this is the one that will stick with me my whole life.
