Year of the goddamned Osiris. If I'm being an (awful) unbiased appraiser of music, this record's probably a 3-3.5, but this is 2015 and I enjoyed this far more than I thought I would after hearing the lead-off single. Highlight Track: The Other Half of Me | | 2 |  | Freddie Gibbs
Shadow of a Doubt
For someone as poorly versed in the genre as I am, this album goes everywhere I want it to on the hip-hop/rap spectrum. Hard, tough-guy verses, catchy auto-tuned choruses, and some seriously infectious beats . Highlight Track: Lately | | 3 |  | Veil of Maya
Matriarch
Where Periphery's newest releases didn't really do it for me, their labelmates Veil of Maya and Born of Osiris catered perfectly to my love of polyrhythms. As far as I'm concerned, Veil with clean singing sounds most like a fully realized Veil, no matter how nostalgic their early deathcore roots. Highlight Track: Daenerys | | 4 |  | We Lost the Sea

Nah. Album's oppressively heavy, and if it's got a lot of chugs and breakdowns, well there are some trvemvtal influences in there too, so that's interesting too. Highlight Track: Violent Reckoning | | 6 |  | Intervals
The Shape of Colour

Peripheral Vision

Run Wild
Lydia shed the last vestiges of their mopey, vaguely emotive former style and are much more fun, for it. A little vapid and indulgent, but you weren't expecting anything incredible anyway. Highlight track: When it Gets Dark Out | | 10 |  | Main Attrakionz
808s and Dark Grapes III
Most listened to/favorite hip-hop of the year. Not that it means jack shit coming from me, but having all but quit smoking except in rare occasions with stoner friends, this album brings me back to summer of freshman year in college, baked out of my mind at every opportunity.
