| Trv Kvlt Black Metal
Some good black metal. Hail satan! | 10 | | Celtic Frost Morbid Tales
Is it black metal, thrash metal or death metal? Who gives a shit, it's pretty great anyway! | 9 | | Ulver Bergtatt - Et eeventyr i 5 capitler
Atmospheric black metal with elements of folk. A bit easier to get into than "Nattens Madrigal" but just as good. | 8 | | Darkthrone Panzerfaust
My second favourite Darkthrone album. Vocals aren't that great compared to their previous work but the songwriting more than makes up for it. | 7 | | Bathory Bathory
Simple and raw. Nothing mindblowing by today’s standards but still some good old rocking fun. | 6 | | Ulver Nattens Madrigal
Incredibly vicious and with an incredibly raw production to it but if you can manage to get over that there is a weird sense of beauty to this album. One of the best in the genre. | 5 | | Deafheaven Sunbather
Atmospheric hipster black metal with elements of shoegazing. Thought I would hate this album but even I can't deny that it's pretty sweet. | 4 | | Shining (SWE) V - Halmstad
Say what you want about the bands image but you can't deny that this album is pretty sweet. Progressive black metal about depression and suicide, what isn't there to like? Has a pretty clean and good production too compared to most other black metal releases out there, so if you can't stand raw necro production then this might be the album for you. | 3 | | Bathory Under the Sign of the Black Mark
The best release by Bathory. Has a more mature sound to it compared to the first two albums yet still retains the raw, rocking feel of them. Prefer this to the later viking albums. | 2 | | Mayhem Deathcrush
My favourite Mayhem release. Have a lot of death metal elements to it which is pretty nice. Raw and punky. | 1 | | Darkthrone Transilvanian Hunger
Has a unique atmosphere that hasn't really been recreated since. Absolutely amazing cold necro production on this album too. | |

12.03.15 | 9, 6, 5, 3 are awesome. I'm not as much into the old-school second wave material...the sprawling, moody experimental stuff gets me though. | InFlamesWeThrash666

12.04.15 | Nice list, I've been digging deeper into BM this year. I'd rec Burzum too, but also a band called Carpe Noctem -

They're a more recent band but that album is excellent | trve
12.04.15 | the descriptions are terrible | Sevengill
12.04.15 | Blood Fire Death is where it's at. "A Fine Day to Die" is just perfect. |
